I like how every single part of the move is explained in detail. As someone who is just beginning to use kettlebells and wants to get stronger I appreciate this. If you would have told me this time last year that I'd be doing kettlebell swings I wouldn't have believed you. But yet here I am.🙂

@@simone565 I agree. It's definitely a new skill to learn. I've noticed improvements along the way. I guess I was intimidated by it at first. But that's changed and I'm glad that it has. I look forward to learning more.

I came to this channel because MW has the best explanation of The Turkish Get-Up in the known universe. These recent segments are actually an improvement. They were out there before, but for a beginner like me I did not really make the connection. I know when I first tried the TGU it was a dangerous mess, and I stalled at just this part of the TGU. Here, there is solid preparation of the possibly wobbly elements so they’re mastered before launching into the whole.

A bit distracted from the subject of the video by the apparent exceptionally good clarity & air quality.

Precision instruction yes! TGUps & Windmill are my next to learn as a beginner. Thank you! 🤗😊

This is a great exercise for me to work towards the TGU, standing up from the lunge position is critical especially if you have a Kettlebell above your head.

Would it be crazy to.. Clean (and press?), lunge back, half kneeling clean (and P), stand clean (and p), stand, clean (and press), lunge forward clean (and press). Repeat sequence for some number of reps (start at 1, increase volume). 4 sets (or multiples of 4 sets) because there are 4 combinations (hand with load and lege that lunges)? Obviously not the first thing. But a progression of this?

This is closer to a Turkish getup. You may prefer to just do TGU.

"it changes the way we are standing, every time we standup" , aside from the usual disciplined instruction, explaining of the movement within a conceptual framework, the numerous great cues and tips thrown in, this was my takeaway. How so?, well with this complex the clean slows and resets the lunge by forcing you to stand up properly for the next rep, with core firings, that differ, focusing you each time for the next lunge, a diagnostic almost; an althetic skill, oh, and you're doing cleans :) While we're at it let's explain how this movement fits within a hierarchy of althetic movement ! It's a 6 min video, the information and concision are world class, as is clear to many, a joy to learn :)

How do you integrate that exercise into a swing/TGU/clean&press/squat program? Could it replace the TGU at the beginning to learn it? Or as a warmup? During the days off?

can i get stronger with just practicing the 6 foundamantals or we need the other basics such as windmill and side press
@MarkWildman

The basic 6 are plenty for most people. The tgu stands in for the windmill and side press. But life is long so there will be plenty of time for windmills

Why not do lunges with kb above head like tgu
@brentranke7528

This is a skill building progression for a beginner towards that exercise. Or a digression for an experience lifter who is having form issues or other problems with a new weight. It is to make sure your legs, hips and back are lined up properly before adding the stress of the overhead press during the lunge. The next progression will add the press after the clean but the press will be completed before starting the lunge. Then likely adding a press(or a clean and press) at kneeling position. Then the overhead press will be added for half the lunge. I don’t know if it will be downward or the upward half first… I don’t know which half is the easiest half. I’m sure there’s more intermediate steps that could be added depending on what issues the coach sees with an individual’s form.

How do you choose if you take the KB in the hand of the side of the leg that is not moving or the side of the leg that is stepping back?
@MarkWildman
@MarkWildman Жыл бұрын
This is a setup for tgu. The hand choice is based on that
