This is possibly a bit contrary to what Smith said in the past. I recall on one of his podcasts a while back when he and Scott Mosier were talking about a potential Clerks 3, they mentioned that they were doing an independent audit of the Weinstien company over Clerks 2 royalties. Smith stated that he spoke with Bob because he refused to talk to Harvey anymore. Now, this could be due to an argument they had in 2011 during the Red State screening but Kevin said he heard some, if I recall right, horrible things about Harvey and he wouldn't deal directly with him anymore. I think this was around 2012. Back then it sounded like Smith had heard rumors. I can't seem to find any old podcasts available since they're all behind a paywall now, this is all just from memory so IDK.

It’s amazing that Kevin didn’t realize instantly that Harvey was manipulating him when the article broke. He’s really still such a naive person after all these years in Hollywood.
@HovaNirvana2 жыл бұрын
He’s not someone who likes to think the worst about people. He has also admitted that his relationship with Harvey is complicated - he had issues with him even before the scandal broke, for personal and business reasons, but he also acknowledges that Harvey put him on and changed his life.

I haven't watched Dogma in years, but I wonder if I could even enjoy it now, especially the parts with Salma Hayek. It's awful what he put her through. Even though she so beautiful and has such sex appeal, I can't help but think Weinstein really just wanted her in those roles for his own amusement, just to see her as a stripper. It would just be one more power play over her. Also I can't help but think of what she wrote about feeling Stockholm Syndrome and wanting to impress him, and how Kevin Smith has expressed similar feelings about him, like being a 40-year-old man and still seeking his approval. There's this guy that seems like God and has all this power and opens all these doors, and everyone plays down all the stories and accusations, and he seems to be genuinely interested in looking out for you and helping your career. And then you find out it was all mind games and power plays.

Forgive me but you're kind of forgetting the part where Kevin is the one who wrote the script, including that character, including that scene. What she was doing there went right to the heart of who she was as character at that point in her existence, her relationship to mortal men. I'm not trying to say like oh so it's Kevin's fault and he was being gross, just that that's how the sequence would've been played no matter who the actress was they cast. And while obviously I can't speak for Hayek, but I don't think there was anything necessarily there that would've made her as an actress feel overly degraded, part of the point is how much and easily she plays the men for fools.

Although I love Kevin, I think he's being a bit disingenuous here - the rumours within Hollywood went far beyond that of him being a 'philanderer' at the time. It was an open secret he'd been assaulting and taking advantage of people and Kevin would have known of this.
@michaelvincent71153 жыл бұрын
You'd be amazed at how easily that stuff is covered up unless you just happen to know the right ppl. I wouldn't necessarily absolve Kevin Smith here, but I wouldn't necessarily assume automatically that he knew. That being said, philanderers with money and power like that seem to ignore the need for consent so it wasn't really a leap from one to the other and that shouldn't have been as "shocking" as Smith says here.

In all my years listening to Smith's podcasts you can really tell that Kevin is a sweet and genuine person, however with all due respect to Kevin he really didn't come across as the worlds most perceptive person to put it lightly. If anyone involved with Weinstein was truly unaware of who he really was it would most likely be Kevin.

@willsofer36792 жыл бұрын
@@Eric-uy7ee This is my impression as well. Kevin was easily dazzled by people (to the point of being kind of naive), and plus, he was never a part of the "inner circle" that people like Tarantino, Affleck, and Damon were (despite the fact that they were all acquaintences of Smith). He was always on the outside, looking in. I'm not sure he ever had a conversation with Weinstein that lasted more than ten minutes, given how many of Smith's stories about him pretty much consist of brief interactions.
