WE"RE REACTING TO ANDOR FOR THE VERY FIRST TIME!
In an era filled with danger, deception, and intrigue, Cassian will embark on the path that is destined to turn him into a Rebel hero.
About Star Wars Andor:
Andor, also known as Star Wars: Andor, is an American science fiction television series created by Tony Gilroy for the streaming service Disney+.
Beginning five years before the events of Rogue One (2016) and A New Hope (1977), the series follows an ensemble cast of characters during the time that a Rebel Alliance is forming in opposition to the Galactic Empire. One of these characters is Cassian Andor, a thief who becomes a revolutionary and eventually joins the Rebellion.
Andor was a vital part of Rogue One, the team that ultimately succeeded in obtaining the Death Star plans from the Imperial facility and uploading them to the Rebel Alliance. He and every member of Rogue One gave their lives to save billions of others.

TL;DR : Arcane, House of the Dragon "Arcane" without a doubt, if you haven't already. It is one of, if not the best written shows in recent years. I VERY much enjoyed you thoughtful commentary and Analysis on Andor and believe me, Arcane will be a GOLDMINE! :) Other than that i recommend House of the Dragon. After the bungle that was Game of Thrones, Season 8, you can imagine how good and well-written a show must be to earn back the fans' goodwill. And HoTD did it Expertly. (It is a prequel and you don't need to have seen GoT to understand and enjoy it, frankly with the latest seasons of GoT, it is better if you just go for HotD)! There are plenty more but i believe these 2 are the best choices :) especially with Arcane & HoTD season 2 com8ng, the hype and engagement is real.

I love that Cassian leaves the ‘ghost’ of his mother to share her dreams with Ferrix ( and Luthen!) and inspire them to rebel, while he her son quietly gets on with the practical business of saving Bix. At every turn, this series defies the usual clichés and expectations in the most awe-inspiring ways. What an incredible finale to Season 1. Tears all the way, and I’ve seen it several times!
@tbirdguy1

Your tears for Cassian's father were so important for me... I've watched so many reactors miss this one sequence, or at least not highlight it in their reactions. It's a master class of both writing and the importance of proper staging. Most modern writers/show runners would have cut that sequence, seeing Marva as the focus of the episode, but this show runner remembers that this show is about Cassian, and his whole journey. In one short sequence this show does more to humanize it's characters then some shows do in years of being our screens. Cassian's father goes from just being a random decent man to a fully fledged father figure, teaching his son the value of observation and of caring for things other people look past. He teaches his son to be self-reliant and inventive, as well as letting him be part of an innocent secret... a small slice of fraternity made between father and son... we know that Cassian sees the good in his father, whatever else he may have been to Cassian he is a treasured memory. It's just so well balanced and nuanced.
@Sinewmire
@Sinewmire 2 ай бұрын
We didn't see much of Clem until the end of the series, but given how intimate and sweet the scene was, it feels like Andor has been guarding the cherished, but hurtful memory and only now has he let it out. Andor clearly felt strongly about his adoptive father, given he went to jail for his memory and chose his name as an alias.

The Riot scene is *amazing* it is one of the best depictions of a riot going extremely violent I've ever seen. From the really bad atmospherics when the crowd gathers (and holy shit the moment the crowd advances on the riot line and the hotel you can tell it's going to kick off its it not handled very delicately), to the juxtaposition between the experienced Imperial troops and commanders who handle the situation professionally and the inexperienced (in this case) officer who accidentally makes the situation so much worse and then panics and looses control. Genuinely it's one of the best depictions in cinema, because you can see how the Empire looses control of the situation. Also you have to cheer every time Brasso clocks that one imperial soldier with Marva's brick!

I think Luthen's reaction to Marva is what I find most powerful about that scene. This is purely my read on his emotions, but it feels to me as if he's in a kind of cautious awe of what is happening around him. He's been carefully planning and scheming and sacrificing for over a decade. Imagine how many people like Kreegyr he's had to give up over those years. And now, with no careful planning, with no need to be nudged by the rebellion's puppet master, this happens on Ferrix. Its exactly like Nemik said; random acts of insurrection. It feels almost like that moment vindicates everything Luthen has worked for.

Probably my favorite TV show of all time. There is something about this show that I keep coming back to it. And I have watched all the prestige television out there. I think it is seriously a masterpiece, a 10 out 10. Some people say it is slow at the beginning and that it should have been shorten up a bit, but I disagree completely; There is no filler in this show, every scene has a purpose and counts towards the world-building, what comes in next episodes Every detail counts and is interconnected. In Incredible writers as well. They should be put in charge of more Star Wars shows, and even movies coming forward.

This show is a love letter to the original fans, like Rogue One, the writer/ director see that those of us that were kids and loved it so long ago have grown up, and finally have us a Star Wars for adults. There's so much great, and heart breaking about this show, sometimes it's the little things, like Bix not knowing Maarva was dead until she heard the recording, having been imprisoned the entire time. A lot of people comment about Cassian having built the same thing that killed him, but I find it more important that the prison break would have delayed the needed materials, therefore delaying it's ultimate completion, which in the end gave the Rebellion the time they needed in A New Hope.

Favourite moment? The end of episode 6. When the credits finally rolled it was like a massive weight was lifted, like I was rewarded tenfold for watching so far, what’s the word, catharsis? I just sat there, almost in tears for over ten minutes, then realised this was the first time I’d seen all the credits, including all the foreign language credits. After this I was ready for episode ten but even so, “I can’t swim” nearly took me back. If season two is as good as this I shall be a very happy man 😊

Normally I would complain about that, I'm no fan of bowdlerism. But in this case I think "Fight the Empire!" works better than "F--k the Empire!" "F--k the Empire" is a catharsis, a release of tension. "Fight the Empire" is an escalation of tension, which is what the scene needed.

My favourite moments were: a) Marva's speech and the intense effect it was having on Brasso and the other Ferrix citizens, as well as on Luthen. b) Saw Gerrera's paranoiac looking around when accusing Luthen of having spies everywhere. The whole show did not insult our intelligence, nor display lazy writing such as having characters do stupid things purely to move the plot along. Andor is the best of Star Wars, with relevant themes for any era in human history. Plus a great reaction/analysis from you Kim!

Kim, I discovered your channel through Andor and I have greatly enjoyed your analysis and breakdown of the series. Your insights on the characters has given me a new perspective on them and that's what I love about this show. I love the pacing of this show and the fact it gives enough time to develop other characters and plot points witch most shows but especially star wars lacks. This show is so well written, here's hoping to a season 2 is going to live up to the hype, I hope we get to see the aftermath of Ferrix and what happened to Deedra as she failed her mission. Brasso had told B2 earlier that the Daughters needed him. Of course, they'd already heard Maarva's speech and were clearly planning on starting some shizzle. They didn't know about Wilmon's bomb (maybe they didn't know), but starting early with much greater numbers...they clearly aimed to misbehave. Although this looks like a loss for Dedra, I suspect she'll be able to pin the debacle on the Ferrix governor, inasmuch as it was his premature provocation that sparked the explosion. And, yes, you noted the change from the funeral dirge to the battle march. I sat upright hearing that change in attitude.

This show can also be named for Maarva just as easily as it can be for Cassian. She has had her own hero's journey. The empire took everything away from her, bit by bit. They were going to try and raid that ship they found Cass on until the empire showed up and made them run. They took her partner Clem and at the same time they stole Founder's Square from her -- the place where she would get inspired (according to her own eulogy). Eventually, they forced her son to go on the run leaving her alone on Ferrix. Unknowingly inspired by the action of Cassian, she finally wakes up on her own one day and decides to take acion. She "opens the tunnels under the hotel for the rebels", which Cassian uses to save Bix. She uses her eulogy not to be a recounting of her life for recognition or rememberance, but to instead try and spark a revolt. Like Keno, she died "trying to take them down." The Andor family is as important to the rebellion as are the Skywalkers.

Just like Andor said, the Empire don't really see the people beneath them as people. They can't imagine it, that I'd be in their house, spit in their food etc. The Empire kidnapped, tortured and publically executed people from the community, limited their traditions and funerary rights, pushed and pushed, just like Luthen wanted them to. The ISB agent spoke into his mic openly, sat and watched Maarva's house without ever considering the people around him were seeing him too - Sinta and the locals both independently made him. They don't see people. They see faceless pawns and the odd player dotted amongst them. They can't imagine the pawns have their own games, wants and desires.

I would watch an entire show...endlessly...about Brasso (big man) hopping planets on the run from the Empire, doing odd jobs under the table and helping people out as needed. We've seen throughout the show that he's intelligent, mindful, compassionate, moral, loyal, and when necessary...fucking RUTHLESS. I would love to see him doing a kind of "Incredible Hulk" type of deal where he's always helping out locals on some planet, only to draw too much attention somehow and have to run off again. Maybe he shows up somewhere to lay low, does his work, and then some asshole pirates or something shows up. Or some especially corrupt Imperials are suddenly making things even worse for people. Things like that. So he ends up doing his thing, and busting some heads, and has to bail again. But I'd also like to see a lot of him just regularly moving on from time to time, and just being a good person that helps people with their common daily struggles. Because Brasso is exactly that...just a good dude. I also think it'd be a fantastic way to expand the Star Wars universe without relying on established characters...show more of what the actual people of the Empire have to deal with day-to-day. It would also be a great opportunity to show some Imperial officers and such who sincerely believe in the "pure" idea of the Empire...in a life of service to the security and prosperity of the people...and who are horrified by what the Empire actually is instead, but believe they should continue to serve for the sake of countering the "bad apples." I'd watch the fuck out of that.

This is my favorite of the Star Wars shows. Mando 1 and 2 are good but this adds real stakes to the universe and we already know how this ends. We never get to see how the “average” person lives through this period. My only complaint is that it’s very human centric and I’d like to have seen more aliens. Even if they went cheap and just did Pantorans (blue skinned humans) or Zeltrons (pink/red skinned humans) but the empire is human supremacists so it makes a little sense to show humans fighting that. Also Marva is the goat.

The end of my favorite reaction series to Andor, just as bittersweet as the end of the show itself. Your insight and empathy is so strong, head and shoulders above so many other reaction channels. Enjoyed crying with you on this one. CANNOT wait for Season 2!

I watched almost Every Reaction/Analysis of Andor that i could find on KZfaq. Your thoughtful commentary is legit a top contender. Great series and Great videos, lookin forward to see your next projects... I'd like to recommend Arcane or House of the Dragon for next reaction series, both relatively short but AMAZINGLY written and draw good views since Season 2 is coming out soon. Honestly, all recent SW projects other than Andor fall into "badly-written" to "HORRIBLY-written" range, so i urge taking a break from starwars for now (maybe upcoming Acolyte will be good, doubt it but we will see)

Episode 11, I was a bit disappointed that Maarva just "died" off-screen - it seemed to be a rare mis-step for this show But I was completely wrong - her send-off in Episode 12 was spectacular! Turns out to be yet another genius storytelling move ... .. as we are in the same position as Cassian, not getting to say goodbye to her properly Great show - too many favourite moments to choose just one

I go out of my way to praise as much of this show as I can in KZfaq comments, but about halfway through this series, you seemed well aware of just how good it was, and I didn't feel like I needed to say much. This is my favorite Star Wars story for a lot of reasons, but all of them are a result of how intelligently and creatively this show was written. I don't know if I can choose a favorite moment, there are so many good ones. My only hope is that we someday get a more "traditional" Star Wars show focusing on Jedi, Sith, and The Force that has the same devotion and thought behind it. Before Andor, Knights of the Old Republic was my favorite story because it delved so much deeper into those aspects of the universe than the movies ever had. I don't think everything in Star Wars needs to be complex and mature, but a lot of the newer Disney stuff has been underwhelming or bad because the writing just isn't there. Hopefully Andor showed the people in charge that this franchise has more to offer.

I love Andor but you somehow made it better. Your intuition and attention to detail is spot on. Pointed out a few things I missed. Andor/Rogue One are the true and only prequels for me, this is star wars.

My 3 favorite moments in the series are Luthen's speech about having given everything for the cause, Marva's speech transmitted by B, and Mon Mothma cleverly planting the seed of possibility that Perrin has gambled away the 400k credits. Also, all the times we heard snippets of Nemik's manifesto. Such a well written, fantastically acted show. The dialog and storytelling is superb.

11/10. Best SW content 1983. The writing is being phenomenal! My 2 favorite parts in the whole season were subtle but deep: 1 - Luthen's face during Maarva's speech. It's total RELIEF, because that very moment he realizes the Rebellion will win. These lower class nobody's, with no ambition, just content put their heads down and work, aka the most passive ideal citizens possible, and the Empire is so Evil it even pissed THEM off? Empire is done... 2 - Mon Mothma comment to Tay, in his own words "...Perhaps you'll find my politics a little too extreme." *CHILLS!!!! She just outed herself to him as a traitor to the Empire! She is risking her life every day, smiling, as a noose slowly tightens on her neck. Risking it all with a simple statement is a very big "first step" actually. She rubs shoulders with a Sith Lord at work, while she actively works to bring him down. She will soon be the outright face (and leader) of the Rebellion. She will eventually need to make a clean break from - everything, to NOT get killed, doing as much damage as possible from the inside, before that day comes. It started right there with words. No turning back now

You worked your way through what Mon was doing but what you missed is that she outright gaslights the husband. He has not been gambling. So while yes he's a bad husband, being fed to the Empire isn't exactly deserved. Is it clever, yes. Celebrating him being fed to sharks for not being a present husband in an arranged marriage is a bit much no? That said - yes this show is amazing. Best SW project since Empire for me.

The way Kim makes Mon Mothma sound like Moi Motha (my mother) hahaha. Seriously Kim is a very intellectual analyst so thoroughly dissecting the characters and their actions in the series to the point that she made me see things I failed to see when I first watched the show and I would be so afraid to lie to her or piss her off if she was my girlfriend.

To celebrate May the 4th, I watched the last episode of Obi-Wan to get the better Leia Obi-Wan and Luke and backstory again, then the last episode of Andor again, then Rogue one again. And then I jumped into the original Star Wars. For the first time in my life the original Star Wars was a combination of all this incredible backstories off Jedis and regular people. It really made the throne room award ceremony scene at the end of Star Wars that much better.

You did an excellent reaction to this great series. Thank you! I am another old SW fan that was so disappointed by recent SW product that I had given up on the franchise. I figured I just aged out of the IP. I initially watched the first episode because I liked "Rogue One" but didn't expect much. Boy was I pleasantly surprised by the tone, acting and level of writing in this show! Again, thanks for the reaction!

There will be times when the struggle seems impossible. I know this already. Alone, unsure, dwarfed by the scale of the enemy. Remember this. Freedom is a pure idea. It occurs spontaneously and without instruction. Random acts of insurrection are occurring constantly throughout the galaxy. There are whole armies, battalions that have no idea that they've already enlisted in the cause. Remember that the frontier of the Rebellion is everywhere. And even the smallest act of insurrection pushes our lines forward. And then remember this. The Imperial need for control is so desperate because it is so unnatural. Tyranny requires constant effort. It breaks, it leaks. Authority is brittle. Oppression is the mask of fear. Remember that. And know this, the day will come when all these skirmishes and battles, these moments of defiance will have flooded the banks of the Empire's authority and then there will be one too many. One single thing will break the siege. Remember this. Try.

Thanks for reacting to this. Andor is one of my favorite shows… ever, regardless of franchise or studio. I remember kinda not caring that much in the lead up, after Book of Boba Fett and Kenobi not living up to expectations. I love the love you have for Brasso. If you haven’t you might consider watching Firefly or The Expanse.

Justice for Perrin! Unpopular opinion time - he's possibly the better spouse. Though it only becomes clearer by the end. 1. We never see him lie and he's always honest that they don't like each other (and possibly never did). 2. He's still publicly considerate. He plays the dutiful husband at parties and for his dinner party he invites her "boring" friends and sits them away from the people she hates. 3. He's involved in his daughter's life (although it's easier since he seems to be a man of leisure). Mon expects to give her daughter a lift when it's convenient to her and on her way to work while Perrin's already agreed to give a lift when it suits the daughter. Other than passive aggressive whining when they're alone we never see him actually doing anything malicious or bullying. Mon, on the other hand, lies and neglects her family because of her work. She "loses" 400k and ends up making her family suffer to cover for her. She accuses her husband of lying to her and gambling, despite knowing he's innocent. She's opposed to arranged marriages, we know hers resulted in her and Perrin both being miserable, but she gives up her daughter to a gangster to help cover up her mistake. I enjoy that Perrin is the worse person, he's selfish, he gambles, he's insensitive about Vel, he doesn't care about injustice "why must everything be so sad?" but he seems to actually care about his family - he doesn't look at all happy during the daughter's "introduction". Whereas Mon is the hero who cares deeply about fighting suffering and injustice in the galaxy but neglects her family and eventually just throws them under a bus to save her own skin. They didn't need to include any of this but it just makes the show, and its characters, all the more interesting.

HA! Thank you! I was going to write something like this out, but you beat me to the punch. I like that he is never dishonest with her, we never see him betray either her trust, nor marriage. He cares for and loves their daughter. The thing that sticks out to me the most about their past together is when Mon asks "What ever happened to the academy firebrand?" It suggests that he used to care just as much as she does, but has lost his will to fight, possibly because he has been reduced to “just her Husband'' where he can't act without it being “problematic for her career” and being chastised for it. Don't get me wrong, I don't think the man deserves a medal or anything, but I do think there is a more sympathetic way to read his actions, then most people offer him. If we ever get a season 2, I bet the “Firebrand” line will come up again, possibly to his fatal error!

OH! Lastly..... 24:45 - The image of that "brick".... is 100% what I was talking about last week in reference to mixing my ashes into a "brick" that could be used to make my wife's headstone, or something similar. As soon as I heard that idea... I latched onto it like nothing you'd ever believe. It's just one of those things where (in our universe) it's just SO unique of an idea, that I really wish I had thought of it myself. Also, also, I can't wait for the Premier tomorrow, so I can talk about things during the Live Chat that I haven't talked about before now. I won't lie, Kim, sometimes it really hurts physically to not talk spoilers, when you're so into the universe as I am. But I do my best. Also, also, also, RIP Nemek. That kid really didn't deserve to die. But as they say, "Only the good die young", and that kid was "good" personified. On a similar note, my first wife died in 2006, and while she was older then, than I was at the time.... she was such a good person, it's no wonder she died before I did. Cancer sucks, and I don't wish it on anyone. She was such a good person, that she sent my current wife to me to ensure that I wouldn't be lonely for the rest of my life. I don't care what anyone says, but you HAVE to be a good person to do something like that.

Kim, thank you for these wonderful reactions. If you are up to it, I would suggest a rewatch of Rogue One- you’re intelligent enough to pick up on a lot of the really clever ways the series tries to connect with the film. I say if you are up to it, because it is - of course - even more emotionally devastating after watching Andor. For example… “Tell Maarva she’d be proud of me” And “Your father would be proud of you” :(

The only plothole I can't really explain except for plot-armor is that Cassian and Luthen didn't kill Syril when they had him at gunpoint in episode three. They certainly didn't show any restraint or remorse over killing off loose ends at other occasions. Well, maybe they did show remorse but they wouldn't let that stop them from doing what was necessary to protect their identity. Can anyone come up with a good explanation for that? I'd be happy to hear it.
