Wonderful to see a paint job carried out well young lady, and the care in which you paint our soldiers in the historical colours. If it is of any help the gaiters as we call them were of black leather for most infantry in 1879 , naval brigade had a canvas pair and much higher I add. The leather belts and pouches were a buff white with regimental brass buckles. The green facings you have done are for the 24th of Foot the Warwickshire's , likewise the 13th of Foot the Somersetshires would have had blue cuffs and facings. I often visit your channel even though I have painted professionally myself , I can always learn new ways.

A really nice tutorial on a subject I've always been interested in. I've got few British soldier miniatures from that period in my collection. I'm going to have to pull them out and get them painted.

Great vid - but I couldnt hear some of the colours you mentioned as you speak quickly, the shot at the start with all the paints was great but a written list may be helpful as I couldnt make out all the names/numbers easily - hey - small things - great vid and I am going to use the tips on my Colonials - Cheers

It just so happens I'm painting a bunch of these right now. I've used a few different colors than you have, but it's all good! Great job as always!!

I hate to criticise such a well painted figure, but the lower pouch on the right hip is supposed to be black.

Colour Sergeant Bourne ordering Hook to get back to his post.

I actually painted a figure of Hook years ago for a WS&S cover. Empress makes a fun little model, complete with a tankard of ale.

I really wish they hadn't immortalised the traducing of Hook in metal. To imply that he was a drunkard and skived off from his post is pretty unforgivable. He was anything but a sloucher, but unfortunately Hollywood films leave a lasting impression.

Highlights is making the base colour just a touch lighter each time and highlighting the creases etc? The paint needs to be thin then as not to hide detail? Your models are always excellent and make me want to paint to a higher level.

Yes, when I say highlighting, I mean building up successive layers of lighter and lighter paint, and focusing on areas where light would be hitting the model. Paint thickness can vary depending on exactly what you're doing, but around milk consistency is a good place to aim for.

the White is a mix whit ulthan grey and white no?
@wssmagazine

Well no, since I rarely use Citadel paints. I generally use Vallejo. I think it was white with Sky Grey. I'm sure you could make something similar with Ulthan grey and white though. You just need a very light grey shade.

Awesome videos! I really appreciate the shot of the paints you use, it really helps set out the way I might approach the model.
