Nicely done! That mirror finish does do a couple things for the blade... For one, it slides through whatever you're cutting with less resistance making it cut MUCH better! Second is RUST! Rust only likes to form in pits in the metal, the mirror polish has very few if any pits so it's very rust resistant.

Ego loves a critic lol I've been guilty of such. I've learned so much, far much more from KZfaq videos than school and college. Skills they just don't teach you and you need. Use the tools we have or can borrow to get the job done. I even learned locksmithing and making my own picks. Also hydroponic growing before it was cool in college and school. Locksmiths are a majority of rip off merchants, destroying the locks and replacing them when they could have just picked them. Even safes are simple to open if someone asked me. Not for crime!

One good thing about a super high polish is you can signal for rescue during daytime hours. Or as Dave Canterbury would say... multi functional 😁

I still have one of my first knives from that first batch, but I started with a 3x24 belt grinder and clamped it to my picnic table. I used O1 tool steel and heated it up in my barbeque, and canola oil is best for O1. I tempered them in my oven at 400, it's been an interesting hobby, plus it got me into leather work which I enjoy.
