Best explanation I have ever seen on this subject. There is no one size that fits all. Cheers

Very interesting and informative discussion about the intricacies of what this all means,most normal people wouldn’t understand what this means and this video helps to explain that so we’ll done In relation to shafts,I can’t wait to get out there and have a thorough iron shaft fitting with u when this COVID stuff is over

Great video as always. It's become a science golf fitting. To throw a spanner in the works, what's your opinion of AMT or mass ascending technology iron shafts? I know the theory the longer shafts a little lighter to match club head weight. So swing weight is consistent through the set.
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 3 жыл бұрын
The idea behind this type of technology is to make it easier to launch the longer irons and to be able to keep the short irons lower. There are 2 ways to do it. Firstly, you can make the kick point higher as the shaft gets shorter (like KBS Tour FLT) or secondly, you can make the shaft heavier as the shaft gets shorter (AMT). The balance point needs to be changed accordingly in the AMT shafts so swing weight can be maintained. It’s interesting technology that can certainly help a lot of players that struggle at both ends of the bag.

As far as I know it's also to keep swing weights similar through the bag. Do use it and do many people get fitted for it?
@SydneyGolfTech

@@waynedunkley2015 most shafts are designed to keep swing weights similar. This is not exclusive to AMT. I don’t tend to fit people into them.

Can you do soft/hard stepping for FLIGHTED iron shafts? Thanks.

Yes you can. It will change the characteristics like with any other shaft though.

Will tipping a driver shaft 0.5 inches lower launch angle and lower spin provided the swing speed stays the same?
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech Жыл бұрын
In theory it should lower spin by a few hundred rpm, and launch lower. The launch would be lass than a degree lower, so I wouldn’t expect a shaft that launches at 15 to then launch at 13. It would maybe get to 14.5.
@michaelgillies9075
@michaelgillies9075 Жыл бұрын
@@SydneyGolfTech if that’s the case in order to lower launch angle,would going up a flex in shaft do the trick or cutting 1 inch be a better solution
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech Жыл бұрын
@@michaelgillies9075 the best solution is to change the loft of the driver or change the golf swing.

This is a great explanation, Greg. I have a question related to tipping a 3 wood shaft vs tipping a driver shaft. I have read about the Ventus "Purple" driver shaft that is the Ventus Red tipped 2 inches. I am interested in the Ventus Red 6S cut to 44.5 inches. Would you still tip this 2 inches for the same effect IF the shaft is cut to a total of 44.5 inches? Related to this, I am interested in the Ventus Red 7S with the Callaway Apex Utility Wood. The standard shaft for this club is 41.5 inches, which I may cut to 41 inches. How much should this club be tipped if one is looking for the same effect as cutting the driver shaft 2 inches?
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Michael. I wouldn’t tip a driver shaft by 2 inches. I think your best bet is to find a good fitter and get fitted for the right shaft for you. I’m sure there will be a Ventus TR Red launched at some stage, and this will fill the void between the Ventus red and blue.

@@SydneyGolfTech thank you. I have learned that they put the Ventus Red 7s wood shaft in the Callaway Apex Utility Wood. Do you have any opinion on tipping a 3 wood shaft 1 inch?

@@michaelmuntean8438 if a shaft needs a reduction in spin or launch, then tipping can be a good idea.

Great explanation. Just one question, I'm looking to soft step my stiff 5 iron with a 4 iron parallel shaft but want to keep the length of the 5. is it ok to trim the tip slightly or am I meant to keep the length of the 4?. Many thanks.
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 2 жыл бұрын
If you are looking at soft stepping your 5 iron, make sure the tip is cut for a 4 iron, then you butt trim the shaft to 5 iron length. 😃

@@SydneyGolfTech and by hard stepping taper tip shafts, you have to play 0.5“ shorter clubs? With parallel shafts, you just tip trimm it 0.5“ more then normal and cut it to proper lenght?
@SydneyGolfTech
@SydneyGolfTech 2 жыл бұрын
@@Samson.Boedefeld if you are installing new shafts, you simply put a 6 iron shaft in your 5 iron (for example) and then butt trim to length. Most new shafts have about 2 inches extra to start with at the butt end. If you are hard stepping an existing set, then each shaft will be 1/2 inch shorter and may need extending.

@@SydneyGolfTech thank you. Thought that all taper tip shafts are already cut to lenght and had no extra inches at the butt end 👍
