Thank you so much for the great videos. I'm looking at buying my first truck and the one spec-ed out correctly has a paccar engine. I've heard great things and terrible things. I'm the type of guy that like doing the maintenance myself. I want to be very familiar with my engine, so I know what to look for when trouble comes a knocking. Your videos have given me confidence in being able to service my truck and repairs. If I ever need anything more than what I can handle I'm bringing it to you. Ok, one thing you missed in regards to the fuel filter. I work with paccar engines for a living. You need a 41mm spanner for the fuel strainer mesh filter in the fuel primer on the right of the fuel filter housing

You are correct we forgot more than that if I have to think on it but it’s hard to get them all off the top of your head

@@KoonTrucking very true, i only mension it due to the fact that the mx engines are a bit prone to lo pressure fuel faults and 9/10 times its due to a pretty blocked strainer filter.

I agree. I’m a mechanic at Kenworth and Paccar is very simple. Getting the air out can be a pain with the paccar filter instead of the davco but overall simple

Crack that #1 line ! It’s a breeze. I put a link the the video showing how to do it. We hardly ever get it to start right off. Take a look at the video we had a ton of air in the system ! Heck we had the fuel cooler off !!! And started it right off. It’s super effective and easy

Koon Trucking we rigged up a power steering pump with a line running into a fuel jug and use an impact to spin it. Primes the system and pushes all the air out. Similar to the davco machine used on dd13’s and 15’s

Koon Trucking but if it has davco separators I’ll fill it halfway and fill the primary filter housing full. Starts every time. I’ll usually change oil first. Start it and then change fuel filters next. Soon as it starts to build pressure I’ll rev it to 12-1500. We hate the paccar separators with a passion unless it’s on an isx

Caterpillar is flat out expensive to fix.My dad has learned this with his 2000 Freightliner FL60 he has for sale with the 3126 Caterpillar,was not cheap having o rings replaced on a couple of the fuel injectors including finding the bolts loose on these fuel injectors.This was causing it not to start up at times.Oil lines too,had them replaced with the updated oil lines.My Aunt Jean's husband seen the Koon trucking hat I wear and he is a retired trucker.Never heard of the place and told him about your youtube channel.

Good video Clay. I like Peterbilt and Kenworth, but don't have any experience with Pac car engines, I'm more a Cummins and Detroit guy. Don't like Detroit much but that seems to be what your big mega companies like to run. Anyway thans for the video and thanks for sharing.....

I like your videos and love the things you show to all of us here.I work on DAF trucks with paccar engines in Bulgaria.Here ours paccar MX 13 are with 10 mm allen for the oil drain plug (euro 6) and 12 mm allen for the old paccar MX 340S2(euro 5). Also did u have AdBlue filters and system in USA because here our paccar engines have.

Buddy got a mack, dealer never has parts it seems. I prefer my ol cornbinder with a hummin cummins isx pre emission.

Those older isx had their issues but I will say when they were running right they run like a striped @55 ape

We keep most things here Nox sensors, compressors, dryers (the usually crap that kills off on them) but you are right. Luckily we have an amazing Peterbilt Dealer that delivers to our shop and they have most things in stock most of the time. It’s rare we have to wait on much.

I’m going to tech school and my engines instructor said that paccar engines are just like Cummins engines. As in the way there made and serviced. Would you agree?

The after-treatment system is for sure in fact it is cummins.

Px series engines the PX 7 and px 9 are cummins 6.7 and 8.3's. you use Cummins insite to talk to them and Cummins processes the warranty claims. The MX engines are a different animal and you'll need Davie software to work on it.

No I prefer Paccar over anything to work on, but it’s all in what you learn on too. I learned on Paccar and know my way around them, but others that learned on say Detroit 60 series it C15 won’t like them. It’s just what ya get used to

I've never seen a 9/16 or 516 square on any paccar peterbilt or kenworth it's always 7/16-11mm and no external pawl.

What’s up Clay, What is the part number for the radiator pick set that has the flat ends like a spoon? I was on our snap on truck today and my dealer looked at me like I had 2 heads. I know they exist cuz I saw them in your toolbox tour.

I second that for sure. Any diagnostic program that requires internet,and if voltage drops during update will crash com is junk for sure. Pretty bad when your a/c or heat decides not to work and the fix is an update.
