You can learn how to dodge boss mechanics and you can heal through raidwide aoe, but you can't cure stupidity or lack of caring. When they don't dodge the mechanics not because they don't understand them, but because they know they'll survive as long as you heal them hard enough, that's where I throw in the towel. I'll heal you through mechanics, but I refuse to heal people who deliberately skip them because it 'breaks their concentration and ruins their uptime'. It's a set of thinking that the hardcore community loves to adopt and I absolutely hate and disagree with.

I think a lot of it boils down to this: when you're a DPS, even a tank, the healing you receive is automatic. It's something you take for granted, and a passive element that keeps you alive. As a Healer you ARE that element.

As a healer main, never knowing what kind of party you're going to get is one of its most fun aspects. It's not a matter of mastering a static rotation, but rather constantly adapting. A useful thing when running a familiar dungeon for the umpteenth time.

It really can go either way these days. I've mained healers for a while during Endwalker and Shb. I think the main issue I have from playing every class except healer is the complete shift in gameplay. Almost no other class has more than one, if that, ability that you pass onto a teammate. Dragoon's eyes or paladin's cover, as examples. With healer that completely shifts from having to target a player once-in-a-blue-moon to a constant 50/50 between your team and the enemies and it's a really weird change I can't really wrap my head around.
@peculiar
@peculiar Жыл бұрын
Set up a button/keybind for "target target of target" (otherwise known as 'assist') and simplify your life on healer 1000%. When used, it switches your target to whatever your current target is targeting. Tabbed onto a trash pack mob and need to heal the tank while they're still running? Hit your assist keybind and your target switches to the tank. Just put a shield or heal on one of your DPS? Tap that assist keybind twice and you're back on the tank! (your target will jump to the DPS's target (a trash mob or the boss you're fighting), then to that mob's target).

I *love* healing exactly because of that, specially on AST. Fights have a rhythm, flipping between enemies and allies, heals and damage, you get in a kind of flow and it feels amazing! The near-instant queues are also neat.

'Little heal, big heal, aoe heal, HoT heal, instant OGCD heal with a CD timer, tickle damage (single target), tickle damage (aoe targets), healing buff.' I'm not gunna lie, I naturally started my journey as a DPS (a couple of em actually), but just sorta of found the job a bit...stale in the sense I had a very set rotation to my abilities that started to get old. Once I saw a Sage in action for the first time, something in me screamed I had to try it. Between my damage output, balancing shields and heals, maintaining heals on my Addersgall to not waste resources, and just reacting differently to situations between my tools based on the actions of enemies AND allies, it definitely keeps it from getting too boring or feeling repetitive, at least for me. Oh and uh, once I got to use Sage LB3 in the O11 raid to revive like 5 people and full heal the rest before we kicked that big idiot's butt, I don't think anything in this game has ever compared to riding the high of that moment to me!

I went from WHM to AST, then SCH to SGE main. And honestly I don't see myself going back. You have good heals and FAT shields. And they happen far more often than from SCH. Not because of increased chance, but rather you are pumping out your spells at high frequency. You have all sorts of shield buttons, that one or two of them will pump out a fat shield sooner rather than later. No more hoping to get lucky with a fat shield on scholar and then spreading it to whole party with another button like it's the covid button. No. Chances are, as a Sage, you are pumping out massive shields on everyone all the time, you don't even think about it anymore.

@@Art2D2 I've been using Sage quite a bit lately, and I gotta admit, it makes me chuckle when I'm paired with another Sage and we both op shields prior to a boss AOE and see said AOE do literally ZERO DAMAGE to the entire party! XD Plus you have Haima & Panhaima to give LAYERS of shields to either one target (Haima) or the entire party (Panhaima), which can be a godsend for Tanks when a big tankbuster is coming, just pop Haima on them and they should take that tankbuster with minimal trouble.

Healing is made super easy in normal content on purpose so that casuals player don't have problems clearing it. In normal content: if you suck at being a DPS, nothing really happens besides the fight being a lil bit longer, if you suck at a healer there is a high chance you can cause a wipe, that's why they try to make healers idiot-proof in normal content. This is good in my opinion, normal content should not be hard, everyone should be able to do it, no matter how well you play. Also increasing the damage received does not make healers more engaging, or at least not in a good way. We learned that in abyssos. They should give healers actual dmg rotations, and they would become more engaging across all content

I personally appreciate the balance Scholar has as a healer. Unfortunately I'm never really available in a static in my FC's social circles, so I've never really tested my mettle with the more recent savage raids but... ...fuck it! Class is fun, and the clutch moments you can pull off with their plethora of skills (especially late game) is hard to compare with the other healer classes. The others are strong in their own right, but this is where my vibe is at. Near a couple dozen res's on that P12 run a few days ago though... *internal screaming*

As someone who's been here since 1.0, I feel the veneration for WHM, since CNJ/WHM was the only choice back in the day...and I also didn't understand SCH when it first dropped. But after I tried SCH and learned how it worked, it's been my main healer job. It used to be quite different, with all the DoTs and the faeries having their own skillsets, but I still enjoy the inherent need to multitask which seems greater on SCH than the other healers (other than AST, which I also enjoy immensely - I miss the old card system and the ability to basically swap between shields and regens, though). Scholar really is a beast, and while it may not have the DPS output of SGE, it's still my favorite job to play aside from DRK.

The hardest part about healing is learning the debuff symbols and which ones can be esuna'd, other than that a White Mage with Medica 2 geared for Determination and Crit Hit is almost all the healz you need. Then just DPS, swiftcast raise when needed. White mage makes healing super easy. You do need to pay attention to the left side of your screen alot more for HP and debuffs but once you learn to watch the left side and catch mechanic dances with your side vision, your good. Though I play all roles heaing is my favorite.

I use to main Scholar before switching to Red Mage. It was hard, but I felt a sense of pride being a healer keeping the party healthy. The times that I failed it was normally someone else being a d-ck, but still, I wasn't flawless, but I was good. Those moments when in a 8 player raids or boss fight and the other healer died, it felt good to revive them. (Unless they die for the 4th time, then I just get pissed...) But when I switched to Red Mage I went "Holy sh--! This is so easy!". It was as if I took off a 100 pound vest! Still, I do keep my Scholar level in check as I still love the class (and queuing is much faster as a healer). More than once though, while playing Red Mage, my Healer instincts kick in and I find myself Vercuring someone.... It did help though when our healer died in that one dungeon and I insta-casted a verraise as though it was second nature.

@mikoto7693 9 ай бұрын
That’s actually my experience! I started out healing because it was easy in the low levels and the queues popped fast… but somewhere along the way it stopped being fun and easy. I found myself dreading it when duties and dungeons appeared during the msq. Then I tried rdm and omg it clicked for me. It was so much easier to focus on the boss mechanics and avoid AoEs and stuff when I wasn’t having to worry about everyone else’s hp bar. I actually started enjoying battles and dungeons. But I still got to satisfy old healer cravings using vercure and verraise-saved multiple parties that way. I’m a much more relaxed player since switching to rdm. Yet, now I understand boss mechanics better now I might go back to Whm and Sch to see if I still struggle.

At least for regular content, AST is actually pretty chill. You can heal most content with just your cooldowns, you have a lot of ocgds that you can throw out whenever the going gets tough, maybe throw out some aspected helios and regular helios when a bunch of people took damage, you have two damage buttons you ahve to worry about, and after getting used to cards, you are pretty much gold. The only hard part is to know what cooldown to press when

I started this game as a White Mage and got it all the way up to 90, then I started levelling up different jobs and found this game is a lot more fun and a lot more easy doing simple DPS. Still, when I'm on Summoner, I tend to help with heals, but it's gotta be bad for me to do that, and I get a nostalgic little excitement when I rez someone.

I unironically became a healer main on accident. In the first MMO I ever tried out, I hated using potions and wanted a self-heal, but since the only class with a heal was a pure healer, I chose to stick with it and picked healing classes since. Also, as much as it annoys me when I'm unfairly blamed for someone's death, I still prefer healing since I know I can do it well.

What do you mean, healer is easy. The problem is other people. Once had a ninja who was just jumping and jiggling all over the place getting caught in AOE's making me burn my mana and reviving them two times BEFORE bosses. Healer isn't difficult to play, you just need to have patience.. a lot of it. As some players make you feel like you are babysitting someone who loves orange puddles, but the puddles are dangerzones.

Abyssos was the first time I did and cleared Savage raiding, as a SGE healer. The previous healer of the static, now DNC, said he didnt't envy me being the new healer with all the new and extra stuff that got thrown out for healers that tier. But man, it's satisfying to keep the party alive and having trust in your co-healer to have your back and coördinate your heals with. Also the fun times when I accidentaly became a lala missile when I used Icarus to fly to the Dancer when the mechanic was a spread instead of a stack.

After playing through EW's savage tier and doing UWU I've found healing is the exact same as a DPS rotation it's just you aren't burning your CD's during a specific window you're burning them during specific boss casts. For UWU I ran SGE and had every single mechanic noted for what heals I pressed. For p12s I had an exact rundown of when I clicked my buttons because of when they would come back and how hard I needed to mit to not let players die. While everybody else is figuring out how to fit their uptime into doing mechanics healers are figuring out how low they can let you go.

Sage felt easymode healing after learning it, just wish the lasers felt more impactful (I miss the WHM rocks I think). Hardest part about playing a healer is like you said, team cohesion, and trying to harmonize with the other healer. It's easy to waste a swiftcast trying to rez the same player

As someone who jumps between roles depending on the content and someone who works retail, I respect the dedication that the healer mains have. I deal with stupid for a living, I am not dealing with it full time in my mmo lmao. Also as someone that really feels the pain of doing content as a Dark Knight when I don't want to shut my brain off as a Warrior, thank you for easing the pain that is my life as I pray I am allowed to actually heal from Living Dead and hating the fact that Abyssal Drain shares an OGCD with another skill. I get that we have TBN, but... does that really hold much to what the hell Warrior can do?

Been playing for two years now. Started as conjurer and switched to sage once Endwalker launched. Love my sage. But the amount of fun I have is determined by the party. Most groups do well enough that I get bored only doing damage with the occasional healing and mitigation for party wide damage. I tend to have the most fun when the party is clueless and I have to put more effort into managing the party rather than doing damage. For that reason I love those rare occasions when my roulettes place me with three sprouts as the ensuing chaos not only lets me have fun as a healer, but also lets me test my skills in keeping the group alive and moving forward.

I really enjoy playing the healer role and I like to overcome tough challenges. I prefer shield healers because they are able to help groups that may be lacking in gear, certain mechanics, or people simply standing in fire. I enjoy doing it so much that I will volunteer my time to help people even when they aren't asking for it. That includes out in the world, parties that have lost their healer, and running raids to help people progress by explaining the mechanics and coming up with easy to execute strategies. Of all of the roles in video games, playing a healer or a sniper are my favorite, followed by playing a specialist that doesn't fit into a specific role. An Example of a specialist would be Abathur from Heroes of the Storm or Azir from league of legends. In Overwatch and Overwatch 2, Ana, Moira, and Baptist are my go-to picks when playing the support role. I hope that future games will continue to include the healer role so that I can continue to enjoy them the way that I have been for so many years.

The only thing scholar is better than sage at is putting bigger shields and inflating the group's dps in such a way that it's gonna endup higher than sage at the high end parsing through stratagem, else scholar is a worse and clunkier sage. Most pugs in savage spam their resources into energy drain like idiots and either wipe the group to their shitty healing contribution or make me their bitch to overheal compensate for their negligency. When i see a scholar as my cohealer i'm always a bit afraid, usually sages are more reliable. I've extensive experience with all the healers throughout all the endwalker savage tiers and i'm of the opinion that sage is just easier to manage, and more convenient than scholar yet more complicated to understand than white mage, but in execution sage is very easy to use as far as healing goes. AST is definitely the hardest healer which i main, followed by scholar and sage with white mage stand at the easy tier for me. Every time i go from scholar to sage in a fight i can apply the exact same mental healing map and still yield good results and sage just feels like a breeze compared to scholar because you're getting 1x Addersgall(name of the sage resource) every 20 seconds with an ogcd that gives another every 90 seconds, whereas scholar has dissipation which makes the game a bit more inconvenient since you trade the fairy for 20% more healing for 30seconds every 3minutes and have only access to 3 of the scholar equivalent resource to addersgall every minute. Even though i have to admit, the spreadlo shields from Scholar are very precious in these hard and trying times, sage is still the better healer in my opnion. You can also apply these healers to different situations, sage is a very good healer for multihitting strong damage output from bosses due to panhaima and scholar is very good against single hits that are very strong due to having access to massive shields.

I am a AST main and I laughed when he said that "What the hell is tht thing". Yep, we healers are not the best jobs to okay but it is satisfying and very satisfying when a run does not go smooth and the Tank do big pulls and we still keeping the party function. When the boss fights and NO one is doing the mechanics or the fights getting a bit messy but we cleared anyway. When people respect you for backing up all those mistakes they made and still managed to clear the content. I sleep with a smile. Ofcourse we healers have our ups and downs, especially recently I am learning new boss fights and man CAN it get any worse. Yeah...everytime when that happens I start to doubt myself, but coming back the next week and fibd out that "Hey, I am seening the mechanics go off, the picture is becoming clear" That is satisfying.
