This is amazing! I pulled out my back several years ago and been living with agonizing back pain. Physical therapy didn't seem to help very much. But after 10 minutes of doing this exercise, the back pain is finally gone. THANK YOU!!!!!

I pulled my back out years ago and never knew that the part I needed to stretch and strengthen was actually my gluteus and IT bands!

When you pulled your back the root problem is still behind there.. figure out why.. maybe your posture is wrong or you are not activating core and glutes when you need to.

This really works- I hurt my back watering plants (of all things!) and was in quite a lot of pain. Ten minutes doing these exercises, and it's gone. Thanks so much for this!

Let me tell you. The problem wasn't watering the plants. It was the years of built up stress of doing something wrong - like walking with a bad posture or not activating your core and glutes when bending down which you need to.

Wow! This really works! I have been suffering from lower back pain for a while and it was hampering my keep fit regime, I was reluctant to push myself for fear of making my back worse. I tried these simple stretches for three days, twice a day and now I’m so much better, today, I did my full work out routine for the first time in weeks, and, as an added bonus, I can get up from my chair without grunting and groaning! (Never a good look!) Thank you so much for this. X

Thank you. I'm very confident you know what you are doing. I wasn't sure if my pain was where you said it was and honestly thought it wouldn't help. It sure did. Just putting my knuckle in the spot helped immediately.

I’ve had lower back pain for 3 months (SI joint possibly)....clam shell exercises with a band really helped immediately!!! Thanks for the video!

I've been cleaning for 12 years, have flat feet and now I've got hip and tight psoas issues, even been sleeping on a yoga matt on the floor, woke up and saw your video, starting doing exercises straight away. These variations target the right muscle better than straight leg, thank you soo much!!!!

I'm a cyclist, and I've recently developed a piriformis issue impinging and trapping my sciatic nerve (excruciating pain!). My osteopath suggested working on my gluteus medius as a part of my therapy, and to prevent future issues, and your video has been super helpful and informative! I've just subscribed! Thank you.

For my back pain, a PT after testing had me lie on my back with bended knees and put a tennis ball under the sore spot. This pressure exercise alleviated the soreness but he said to also continue the "duck feet" exercises (same ones in this video) prescribed by a previous PT because they work the same muscle.

Dr. Christy - You are truly making a difference. 3 months ago I was diagnosed with needing to replacre my left knee. after 3 months of limping I developed major back pain, lower right. Exactly where you pointed out in the video. The PT that was working with me on my knee had no meaningful recommendation for my back pain. several weeks of pain has drastically reduced after two days doing these exercies. I have no doubt in few days, it will no longer be a major issue. God bless you.

How come my doctors only ever have painkillers,, that ruin the liver, my back is sore but this is slowly helping,, go 2 Gp, they look at the clock 15mins your out, I just go 2 hospital, now I go 2 KZfaq, good doctor👍

My back felt so much relief after this! Yes, just after one time. I have been having this back pain for quite a while now and now it's gone! I tried yoga and some stretches but it didn't really work. Thank you so much Dr. Ennis!!!! Now, on to working on strengthening those muscles.

These exercises were prescribed to me by a PT to correct "duck feet" (turnout). At the following appt, he tested my resistant muscle strength and it had improved 100%. I think the most helpful exercise was the Crab Walk (last exercise).

Thanks Doc,I had this stuff pain Exavtly were you pointed,I even had a crazy electrical shock front of thieghs...I did this and it felt like,something popped back in place...Thank You,at 1st I thought oh sure your an athlete well tone in shape human, how is a 6 ft 1 260lb overweight outta shape guy gonna do this...BAM,I continue 2 times a day...all cured thank you...I was actually crooked and jinxed over to walk,now I'm normal again,going on a diet dropping 40lbs I hope..

This is MY problem. thank you so much. This really is revolutionary stuff. Wasted 10 years of my life trying to fix this problem that started when I tried to move some heavy items by myself, while lying on my side holding them up in that position, and it turned into such an intense pain that I couldn't put my foot down on that side, couldn't walk, and couldn't function for about a week (couldn't sleep, either). That got better, but, it still creeps iin with a sudden "gotcha" from time to time. However, this fixes it EVERY time, and if I would only stick with the strengthening exercises (keep in mind, these muscles do NOT get regular exercise in any program, ppl!), I would keep this at bay. Again, thank you.

This is a good video for cyclists. The rocking of the pelvis happens a lot when the saddle height is too high. It leads to back pain. The GM contributes to this pain.

Holy Smokes! I am 67 years old and have been dealing with lower pain pain in the very region you showcased and your exercises did provide some immediate relief! I could do the leg lifts and the band side step fairly easily but the clam move was much more difficult for me. Can you explain why this may be?

Glad you are getting some relief! The clamshells are most likely more difficult because you are not just using your hip abductors, like in the leg lift, but also the hip rotators.

Thanks for sharing, but I have always had Back pain in the Small of my back but this past 3 months or more has moved up to my right shoulder blade which is the worst pain I’ve ever had,I’m 64 years old.

Another great video that is not in any of my physical therapy papers. You talked about pressure I noticed in physical therapy the hold the nerve that's hurting in my hip or wherever. I actually have a tomahawk which is basically a perfectly round rock attached to a stick that was purchased at an Indian shop and Missouri that has a pointed end on the rock that's cut around I use that to press on nerve points works good You said too hard sometimes I push really hard but the effects are okay I would assume that means it's all right

My back has been hurting for over a week now, I took our new dog for a walk and he pulls like mad. The following day I was reaching to close a bedroom window and ouch I felt the pain in my lower back now my whole right flank is causing pain. My most extreme pain comes while attempting to transition from sitting to standing, I think I get stuck or something like that. Ouch. What do you think Doc?

My back hurts. Sometimes lower left side like stabbing with knife and suddenly one day it can change to mid rigth side of ribcage that breathign is painful.

Thank you Dr, good stuff! One minor suggestion. When you wear all black pants, it's hard to see the leg movement. Maybe have a stripe on the leg to differentiate the upper and lower leg to accentuate the movement? Again, appreciate your videos!

It’s working the glute medius which is on the side and helps to stabilize the pelvis.

This is what hurts the most. My right bootie cheek is so sore and painful all the time. I had to stop running due to IT band pain. It all hurts from the bootie down to my knee.

There can be multiple causes. Often I see a combination of lots of sitting, weak glutes, tight hip flexors, and rotation to one side more than the other.

Hey great video! With the monster band side to side's, is it better to be in the semi-squat position or is keeping leg straight just as good?

Good question! I like the squat to work the glutes a little more. To work just the hip abductors, the straight leg variation works well.

It can definitely be related to SI joint problems! I find that any weakness or tightness in the hips and glutes can affect the SI joint.
