KTM 500EXC Nomad ADV Adventure/Rally Tower Full Detailed Build/Installation (PART 1 of 3 - Teardown)

See what it takes to do a full rally / adventure tower installation on a KTM 500EXC to turn it into a super capable ultralight adventure bike (and it could be used as a rally bike too). The Nomad ADV tower gives the bike over 6000 lumens of LED lighting, a place for accessory power/switches/navigation and uses a 450RR Rally fairing to tame the wind at speed.
This first video just talks about the intention of the build, some of the benefits of the tower, how much weight it adds and goes through the teardown of the bike.

Do you have to remove the charcoal canister or can you just drill through it and pass the bolt through?

I have considered the Nomad kit to be the best kit around but they are all pricey. Looking forward to watching your build. I am also looking forward to your thoughts on how well the screen works for normal riding

I think with the advancements of the Baja Designs and Acerbis light kits for these bikes now that are way lighter/simpler/etc. and the ability to bolt on a little windscreen or something like that (like the adventure spec mini fairing or Bajaworx ENDURO WINDSCREEN), I would recommend going that way if you only have one bike and still want it to be your single track ripper. The bike does handle differently and feels a lot bigger in anything tight (meaning trees and big rocks). It is an adventure/rally bike that you can occasionally take on single track and very occasionally take in tight woods single track. But if you can do two bikes, this is the best Adventure bike in my mind... I had a 1090 Adventure and this thing is so much more fun for adventure travel under 5 or so days. Cheers!

@@SourceADV my 500 is my sole and last bike as it is the best adv bike around. I am just replacing the standard lights(candles would be just as effective) with LED lights in my own home made supports. I’m too old for single track and hard stuff so with raised gearing, rebuilt seat, bigger tank plus a Rotopax and a home built luggage system I have everything I require in the lightest bike on the market.

Not that I don’t know how to solder but I am reluctant to do so on the rectifier for fear of some freaky short or disconnect on the road that will leave me scratching my head and not being able to diagnose the problem. I am opting to send my rectifier out to www.ricksmotorsportelectrics.com/ and have them replace the wiring with 6 additional inches of wire so that there are no breaks in the line. When adding up the additional weight of the tower don’t forget to add everything else that will be carried up front (gps, cell phone, tank bag, larger fuel tank including the extra fuel weight) including you and all of your riding gear. Seriously consider changing those front fork springs to accommodate the extra weight. By the way, that also includes the rear spring as well, which should also include any additional luggage that you plan on carrying.
