How Long Will Shelf-Stable Milk Last?

You may be surprised by what happens to food as it ages. Is my food storage still safe to eat after 5 years, 10 years, or even 20 years of sitting in the basement? Can eating old food storage make my family sick?
Properly packaged and stored dry grains can be safely consumed for more than 30 years. Canned foods stored in a cool, dry location, that are not bulging or leaking, can be safely eaten for several years past their best-if-used-by date printed on the can. The vitamin content of stored foods typically decreases with the passage of time, but the caloric and mineral content remains constant.

I've been using that brand here in Ohio, got it from Dollar Tree. I've been one of those people who have pushed the dates a bit, but only by about 6 months, and it was still good. Once opened, Ive found it lasts in the fridge longer than non shelf stable milk as well.

I've been prepping since 2004. Any canned dairy such as, evaporated milk, nacho cheese, table cream, goes bad on or before expiration date. The shelf stable milk, just like the one in the video, lasts a really long time! I'm not home so i can't check the dates for you to be specific. The packaging has changed at Dollar tree now to a kind of cow skin pattern in red, green or blue. I stock up on it and only buy a few canned milk products as I've thrown so much of it away over the years.

Guess we should start rotating out (or in?) the shelf stable Lactose Free milk we keep for our kid. I think some of it expires this month. We store powdered milk and use it for baking, but the only liquid shelf-stable milk we keep around is the LF stuff for the kiddo. Spouse prefers regular fresh liquid milk, but will drink the UHT shelf stable stuff when needed (like power outages, etc.)

I bought mine at the beginning of 2020, so I wouldn’t have to be going to the store and looking for milk that wasn’t available it is probably time to use it

Even if the color is off and it separated doesn't mean it's spoiled. They always say that the dates are more about quality versus safety. If it smells good and tastes okay I would go ahead and drink it!

I used a shelf stable milk that was a year passed the expiration date and it was fine.

I have some 1 year-ish past exp date and is still good. But definitely.. try to rotate.. and not go past more than about 12 to 18 months for best results.
