A dragon will not take another rider as long as their original rider is living. It is why Rhenyra will lose Joffrey in the future. If Seasmoke takes another rider while Leanor is living it will not make sense.

I suspect Laenor will die off screen. Rhaenyra will realize he's dead when Seasmoke bonds with his new rider. I think the scene on the beach is Rhaenyra and the new rider.

Laenor would never have left his dragon. Keeping him alive was one of the few misteps in season 1.

I, too, don’t think there will be much of an explanation in regards to Laenor…if any. Maybe a quick line or 2, but definitely not much focus other than that. An actor has already been casted as “A”, so I’m pretty sure (actually I think most of us are sure) that that’s who we’ll be seeing on the beach! I know the primary focus for the show (specifically moving forward) is Alicent and Rhaenyra, but I’m excited to still see what’s yet to come, and the changes that will be made. Me personal theory is Laenor will come back to help Rheanarya and will end up dying alongside Jace in the battle of the Gullet trying to save Aegon III and Viserys II thus freeing Seasmoke up to be claimed by Addam Velaryon

I’d like it if they had someone new ride seasmoke and maybe mention that them doing so implies laenors death but not confirming it. That allows both options to remain possible without addressing it

I feel like seasmoke will be seen flying off at some point in the first or second episode and then later down the line we will hear the scream of dragon returning after daemon has flown off and Rhaeny’s deaths leaving rhaenyra with the only large enough dragon for a good dragon v dragon combat to defend either driftmark or dragon stone but to her surprise it’s seasmoke and they have landed and are waiting for her or another one of the blacks riders. When she lands she sees it is not longer laenor atop or standing beside seasmoke but a younger teenage boy. Which we see in the trailer her approaching gingerly unknowing of what to expect. Only to be told of laenor deaths (maybe we get a flashback) and idk if it’s would be his bastard or one of corlys that laenor discovered along his travels and has bonded with seasmoke at the moment of laenor’s death and is returning to his/laenor’s family now he knows they are in danger as a sort respect towards laenor’s finding/helping him?

this was a show change that i actually prefer to the book story - makes for more character development and adds to the moral complexity of Daemon and Rhaenyra IMO

Idk they should have just had Rhenyra kill him. They did it to make the fans side more with team black and personally I think it’s a bad idea.

This was a very d*** mistake just cause they want to keep gay guy alive and make rhenyra and deamon not that bad. They gonna suffer the consequences when they need to give his dragon a new rider and it doesn't make sense unless they say he dies somewhere else offscreen then whats the point
