So the only way for JLR to take a customer complaint seriously is to publicise the issue in a you tube video and make sure a JLR director gets to see it….🤷‍♂️

I’m glad for you but it’s a sad reflection that it takes KZfaq to get results. If the directors really gave a S**t they would sort out parts and give respect and service to every LR owner. Even your complaint was ignored. I certainly wouldn’t buy a new LR, there are better ways to waste money.

As a now retired lorry driver who used to travel daily on motorway,s etc the length and breadth of the UK. It comes as no surprise to me to watch this video and hear your story because there must be many similar. Every day I was shocked to see the number of broken down land-rover discovery/rangerover vehicles by the roadside not old vehicles but new, also a high percentage of BMW,s. All I can say is shocking. Cheers.

Hi Doc, I think you should get a trade in valuation for your Disco 5. I would be interested in hearing what your expectation is versus what you are offered. I have exactly the same D5 as you and have had virtually all of the same problems. Book value for my car is 42-45k. My LR dealer who I bought the car from new and fully serviced it with offered 22k. Additionally not a single dealer Toyota, Lexus, BMW, Audi or Mercedes would accept the vehicle as a trade in against a new vehicle!! Point blank refusing to take in JLR products. It feels like the trade is black balling JLR. Would be interested in hearing your experience.

You hit the nail on the head with “they are great when they work”. That is why we keep buying them despite knowing we will have troubles - they are the best SUV you can buy. I have had D4s, D5s, RRS and now Defender and they have all been great motors, but also all had issues to varying degrees!

I bought a 2007 Mitsubishi Delica D5 two and a half years ago. It was imported from Japan by someone else who then got cold feet. I picked it up for 7k with 92k miles on it. I had it undersealed, a split charge relay fitted under the bonnet, added a towbar, and had body work dents sorted, plus headlights polished. Car looked amazing after that. 10k total. It carries 8 people, has selectable four wheel drive and electrical diff lock, super powerful air comditioning in all three rows, three cameras, front, rear and near side wing mirror. It's been utterrly reliable and I've done two super-long journeys to France in Summer to the deep South and in Winter to the Alps. Hasn't missed a beat. I have had it regularly serviced and it has had parts replaced in that time, including suspension components and an air conditioning compressor. What I'm saying is, this 16 year old car has no rust, and is bulletproof. Would I be sensible to go the HP or PCP route that no doubt you follow to have what you are telling yourself is "The Best" as long as you don't mind being without the car or stuck at the side of the road wondering what happened to the 100k paperweight you don't even own?

One solution that JLR should be doing, for those vehicles that are waiting long term for repairs, is to divert parts from the production line to those at dealers needing repairs. Stop making some cars until the number that are waiting for repairs that can't get parts are sorted. If not JLR is just adding to their problems as the new vehicles will be joining the queues for repairs before long. As a former Range Rover owner who wouldn't touch another JLR product with a bargepole, (worse car for reliability of 17 i have owned) I changed to Lexus RX's and now on my 3rd one .. only every need to visit my dealer for a service and when buying a new one, the first Lexus I bought it as 7 year old and sold it as 10 year old, second one bought at 3 years and sold it at 5 year old..this current one bought it new now 16 month old. I wonder what would happen to JLR if they tried to give the same 10 year warranty that Lexus give?

@mvubu6823 the RX boot is not as big as those in some others like the BMW X5 etc but more than adequate for most people. I have reliability twice .. because at 60 year old I don't want to be under the bonnet of my cars these days.

Really appreciate the update. And as said you have the patience of a saint. But really so far having had all the costs and troubles you’ve experienced all JLR have said is that they will extend the warranty. Given the car hasn’t been driven for 6 months no other faults could have occurred so would have thought that they would do that regardless. Also the fact they said the only reason they called is because of your channel sadly shows they don’t care for their customers. I’d love a Discovery and was really considering it as the next car. But given the trouble you’ve had, no chance. Sadly you should walk away from the brand. None are perfect, but few are worse.

We are currently on month 3 without our Range Rover sport as it’s crank sized while on the M6 toll and needs a new engine! We brought from a main dealer with 36065 miles on the clock, we’ve done 6320 miles in it and now it’s back at the dealer awaiting repair and we’re no further forward than we were 3 months ago and trying to get any help or anyone to speak to us is impossible.

Who would have thought they cared about anyone. Statutory and Implied Warrantees requires them to have up to 7 years worth of parts on hand. They are usually made when the car is produced.

My experience with Land Rover's head office has been pretty good so far. JLR really does care about their customers, of course some do end up falling through the cracks so to speak, but JLR has gone to bat for me a few times. My warranty was only good in Canada and the USA but when I ran into issues while in Mexico, they took care of paying for a rental car for a whole month for me and got my RRS fixed at no cost to me even while being out of the area my warranty was good for.

North America have different policies, here in the UK and Europe all JLR want to do is shaft the customer, point in question a 3.0cc crankshaft issues if it lets on your side of the pond you get a free engine, we on the other hand have to buy a replacement, look at or LRTime on youtube or the in states a new Defender with a MIL (Check) light came on at my memory only had 134 miles on the odometer, couldn’t be repaired so lemon law kick in got a replacement Defender (L663) on the 2nd one not even leaving the main dealer only the service tech cut the wrong wire fitting a winch so the same thing happen they got a new defender for the third time. As I have stated, Europe gets shafted.

Three years ago I bought a brand new RR Sport P400e. 14 Months and just 10,000 miles I sent it back after seven breakdowns, three of them extremely dangerous while driving, and four spells in a dealers for a total of five months. Utterly hopeless. JLR spend money on styling, not on engineering. Such a shame, but they really need to sort their dire quality control and reliability. It's simply outrageous given the price of their products. I'll never buy another, which is a shame.

Wafting around in a car that does not feel like a ticking timebomb is a genuine pleasure... I don't want JLR to fail, but complex cars have to be built to a very high standard to be reliable.

Well done. Like most people on here we have a love hate relationship with Land Rover. We want to stay with them but they’re making it so hard to support them due to reliability concerns and high insurance premiums. My Discovery Sport has a similar problem to yours in that in just completely died on me. 7 weeks and hundreds of pounds later the dealer got it going. Then a few weeks later I had it inspected by the same dealer to see if I could put it under warranty again but they said there was still a fault somewhere and so they couldn’t allow me to put it under warranty. It’s absolute crazy. Like you how can I have faith in using my car for long journeys when there mechanics can’t fix the problems.

I stumbled on your channel after looking for ways to prevent vehicle theft and to hopefully reduce my exorbitant insurance premium. Its not comfortable to hear your story but I am glad that you are sticking JLR out and that you have had a response from someone other than the dealer. I've had 2 new Range Rover Sport autobiography 3.0d and 5 engines. All with the same crankshaft fault. After the 3rd engine in the 1st vehicle, non of which lasted more than 17000 miles and in between times countless frustrating visits to the garage mainly for electrical faults - apple car play simply did not and does not work - I gave the car back. JLR did replaced the car with an identical new vehicle and extended the warranty to 5 years. I honestly thought I couldn't get another bad one. Wrong. True to form the new cars engine gave up at around 16500 miles. The car has been back several times and is currently in the the garage waiting for side step gremlins to be put right - I seriously doubt they ever will - an oil seal for the rear differential, the brake discs warp at around 10000 miles and the high pressure boost pipe has blown off due to incorrect installation - and broken components - when the second engine was fitted. The latter item left me stranded for 3.5 hours after limping off the M1. When these vehicles are good they are very good but oh boy they can be downright disastrous. I doubt I will ever have another and that is a real real shame. I have to be fair to the dealer who has at all times tried to help and the folks there are great but they are let down very badly by a corporation that know better. Good luck.

Moral - multiple reasons to not buy a landrover. My kid bought a short wheel base, elderly landrover which was great, very agricultural and noisy. He ran it for a couple of years with no problems then swapped it for a BMW, nice car but a lot less fun than the landy. Landrover should have replaced that vehicle, knowing the problems had no end date.

JLR have no date to offer on the job and have us driving around in a Volvo. To my mind we are never going to get the car back as I can’t see them making new 4.4 diesels when the world and JLR included are moving towards hybrid and full EV. Frustrating that we simply get ignored and have seemingly no power to influence, but held to ransom by a company with no interest in caring for their customers - if anyone can help I am all ears…..

I wish I could offer some sort of advice on how to get it sorted quicker- I emailed all the CEO/exec emails I could find at one time and that did stimulate a bit of a response from head office… I’ll be honest though- it didn’t lead to much in reality. Calling JLR customer service did seem to do more than speaking direct with the dealer though

Thanks for reply and for the vid - have subscribed - we’ve gone the customer service route and it’s fallen pretty much on deaf ears. Common sense to me suggests they will never replace our engine but they are not prepared to say that, happier to string us along. It struck a chord that they are perhaps sensitive to negative publicity - on reflection it didn’t take a great deal of time for their ceo to defend their security when they were getting stolen left, right and centre. I’m thinking I need to push the publicity angle and see if I can’t get some traction that helps all customers who are sat there with expensive vehicles, gathering dust, while being treated with contempt. Customer service should be king for them - particularly given the amount of time their cars are sat in their garages 😂

@@user-yb8kz9wy9r I agree- to be honest I think there are literally 1000’s waiting for parts right now it’s a massive issue. I did write a ‘formal complaint’ but again didn’t have much/any impact! I think in your case I’d push for a timeline for a definite answer. With an older engine how are they going to produce a new one?!

I Love My old Land Rover Freelander 2/LR-2 2.2 TD4 2006. It hasn't been without it's troubles; Steering Rack (Debris from welding clogging flow of fluids resulting in broken steering pump - remedy was flushing through fluid several times to remove debris). All in All though it has served me well for 7yrs though for little cost other than standard running costs and minimal part replacement. It pains me to see the Issues JLR have been having of late.

Whilst I understand you wanting to try to keep LR onside, I wonder whether there’s a chance you are being distracted by a RRS loan car? Have you discussed the depreciation you are paying for while it’s off the road? This is likely the biggest cost for you. The right thing would be for LR to support the dealer to buy your car back off you based on the original price paid with an adjustment for the mileage you have done since you bought it. Unlikely to happen of course because the precedent would probably bankrupt them, even though the rental and loan cars you have had have probably cost more than this already.

I can’t understand why they didn’t just rob a part off of the production line? However, the learning here is 1) only buy a Land Rover franchised dealer 2) Ensure you have Land Rover warranty 3) take Hire Purchase on the vehicle even a small amount you double your rights. I had a Jag XF and had real problems, used Section 73 of the Consumer Credit Act. Jaguar finance gave me a full refund including my deposit (PX value) and I went and bought an Audi

I’m very glad I took out the JLR extended warranty. Interesting to hear about the Hire Purchase angle in regards to consumer rights, may be I should look into this and do some content around it. 👍🏻

06:10 South Africa. We are probably the only two die hards with astronomical patients . I own a Disco 5 and last year about 5 months ago had a catastrophic engine failure. JLR have had my car ever since and have kindly provided a substitute vehicle while I wait and wait. Parts supply etc etc has been the initial course of delays. I had the vehicle back for 3 days and promptly returned it and advised JLR to sort out an oil leaks amongst other issues which had not been properly repaired. When my vehicle finally comes back, where to now? I have had LR my whole life and love the vehicles, but I just cannot accept the poor service and workmanship going forward. The reliability will also play on my mind going forward as well as future warranty repairs. Very disappointed right now. Thanks for your videos.

It seems to me that a bit more expertise should be applied to properly diagnosing the technical issue rather than relying on parts-swapping - especially when the parts are unavailable. Thankfully medics don't rely on organ transplants every time something goes wrong with a human or there would be an enormous waiting list for spare parts. My current Discovery Sport had an issue with the external temperature sensor reporting -42c when the vehicle was still under warranty. The JLR dealer swapped two wiring looms but it made no difference. I just live with the problem now...

You may have seen it but the KZfaq channel "LR Time" has a great video on the subject of fixing a non-starting Discovery. Christian really got to the bottom of the problem and the solution didn't involve a loom swap. He also demonstrates how you need to be tooled-up as a Land Rover owner if you want to avoid being at the mercy of dealers and JLR.@@thedoctorsgarage

JLR could've resolved this 6 months ago, by using one of their thousands of stock-piled cars, as a parts car. It's quite simple really. You take a part off, you replace the part when it arrives. How hard is that? The problem with JLR's, and most cars really, is that they are full of electronics, computers and sensors. It's about time manufacturers went back to basics, like the good old days of carbs, points, dizzy caps and spark plugs.

You are a very patient guy. It’s a disgrace that you have waited months for a part for your car and to not have a proper diagnosis is even more worrying. The CEO needs to get of his Arse and make sure that land rover are making their cars with much higher quality parts and better after sales service. They have been making cars for years and never seem to learn anything. It’s a disgusting way to run a business. Tell them to shove it.

I wish *I* had a YT channel (I can still barely talk about what's happened because of my Autism & inability to speak when Im this upsey) and that Toyota Australia had responded within the Australian Consumer Law when my Prado (LandCruiser II) was destroyed by a known Toyota fault - one they'd engineered and sold parts to resolve. But I get the shit end of the stick. Every time. Good for you, and good luck with JLR.

I drive a 2012 RRS (101k miles) and have done since 2018 with the only real fault being the Split Manifolds at about 80k that cost a small fortune to have replaced along with belts etc but totally agree its a great car despite its age. What doesn't sit well with me in the response from JLR is that you are now a priority for repair, I would like to have thought that all JLR owners who have forked out substantial sums of money for their cars that have broken down were top priority for repair rather than promoting you to number 1 !? It also doesn't sit well with me that they have no supply dates, I bet production is being supported and if so there should be no problem with increasing demand - Come on JLR you MUST take ownership of this problem and not leave it open ended and if for example this supplier had gone out of business you would have almost instantly sorted out an alternative supply route so why not here ? And not necessarily finally, but finally for now, why does it take a KZfaq Video to get action on this issue, that's IMO pathetic!

Agreed and when they do get in touch they still can't let you know when they can supply the wiring harness. Yes it is great news JLR have phoned you, but surely, they would find out when the part is definitely available or have another solution, prior to making the phone call. It is probably bad luck that the car has a fault, but would you buy another vehicle from a manufacturer that cannot get a part for a 4 year old car in over 6 months or come up with an alternative solution......??? Doctor, I think you have been very patient, but even with that in mind JLR must be on borrowed time! I hope you hear back soon, obviously JLR realise many Land Rover/Range Rover owners watch your channel, so if the outcome isn't quick, good and positive, it will be a PR disaster for them.

everyone from the dealer up should be as helpful as the customer experience team...you shouldn't have to put out you tube videos etc to get this dealt with. Very interesting video ..... Makes me glad I got a Disco 4 and not a 5 ;-) I bought mine last August - September 2016 with onky 34k on the clock and looking brand new. But when I bought the upgraded LED puddle lights from PowerfulUK, I discovered that the one on the passenger door had never been wired in (shows how weak the original lights are). Luckily under guarantee as I bought a JLR Approved vehicle - so Marshall Oxford fixed it under guarantee and had to remove the door card and poke the cable through to connect the light. But funny no one noticed for 7 years !!!

Why can't they just give you a new car, would be easier. They should also cover any additional insurance as not your fault. This is a problem with Land Rover Garages when you need a service to address a warning light you have to wait 3 to 4 weeks for a service slot. Not good service... I just bought a Velar second hand from a dealer in the summer of last year but was not told by the dealer at the time of purchase about the huge amount of thefts down south and that this may increase insurance in the future which I think they should have disclosed rather than be silent as I would have chosen another discovery instead of the velar. I think Land Rover should be providing an updated theft prevention kit for these cars as a free upgrade. Then they would be collaborating with the insurance industry to keep insurance prices down and not inflated.

Ask for a new replacement vehicle ,end of. If JLR are involved now then they can sort it, not a dealer problem. I was given a new replacement vehicle yrs ago by LR. My problem vehicle was scrapped at 3yrs old. I'm afraid JLR have lost the plot in making vehicles, sad really, too much technology. They need to go back to basic reliable vehicles, at a reasonable price, even the new Defender is just for city owners. Don't know anyone using one as a work vehicle. In fact not many on roads my area at all.

Good to hear you have some good news though obviously still many problems to sort out and at the end of the day your still not driving your own car. You have been very patient. I only bought my first Land Rover/Range Rover in August and my first shock was the rise in insurance costs over my old car an Audi A8 V8. I know now this to be a scam by insurance companies but I do enjoy driving the SUV ( 2ltr turbo diesel Evoque) as I live over 400 miles from London, not in a high crime area and not fitted with the troublesome easy entry system. My own insurance company quoted me a price of £2500 for fully comp, full no claims and clean driving record!!! Needless to say I declined I eventually got insurance with LR insurance but still a hefty £900 with a £600 excess so not sure how long I will keep the vehicle as I do not wish to increase the profits of thieves and vagabonds trading as car insurance companies

I would be asking them to rob the part off one of the used D5s in the system to get you back on the road. I guess that's extra labour and they would rather just give you loaners. I had a similar situation when my new BMW was poisoned by contaminated supermarket diesel. Took 2.5 months to get all the parts and that was pre-covid. As BMW was not liable I did not even get a loaner from them.
