The broken gearbox pieces may be from the 1st gear synchromesh hub as I had the same broken parts on mine and it is not really visible without dismantling the gearbox. There are three of these sections on the hub altogether and it still seems to operate OK with just the one. It's where the brass synchromesh cone engages with the hub.

Many decades ago a pal of mine begged me literally begged me to fix his old diesel Landrover s3 gearbox, it had lost 2nd gear, eventually after promises and coercion I agreed. So I went to his house one evening apprehensive and very tired after a long day at work, I arrived went in and said where the motor? Oh he said it's up the farm, (We used to shoot at a local farm, a friend of his) So off we go in his car to the farm and in the barn was his motor, on a mud floor, hold on it get worse, old bits of wood were found for lying on under the gearbox, I was not prepared to take the engine and gearbox out in one, anyhow, the underneath was as smooth as a baby's bottom cram packed solid with mud and clay. (the farm was notoriously a muddy and clay farm) So I said I'll start on top inside you start digging it took 3 long evenings to clear the mud and clay which was packed right around the gearbox into the "tunnel" and boxing under the seats. Anyhow dropped the gearbox out, and I said I'll take it home see what's wrong and let you know the damage, no its ok he said we can do it round his house,,,,,yep indoors in the living room on the floor on old coats blanket etc etc in front of a nice big log fire. I should say his house was totally a nice home, not a tip leather chesterfield seats and sofa etc, I started stripping it he had already got the gear so it was an unconventional fireside repair, and we took it back up the farm a couple of days later on a Saturday and put it all back together. A lot of work mainly digging but a done job in the end. The gear had simply broke in half, no bits no debris, picked them out with a wand magnet. I never did get the promises though.

Interesting that so many parts are actually mendable. Seems like you’re able to reuse almost all the parts aften some refurbishing
