My personal experience. The hardest part is just getting started like this gentleman says. You don't need a $7000 mower, You don't need a new truck. Just get a decent riding mower, cheap trimmer and blower. I started my business for $1000 because I bought a new riding mower. Taking action makes the money. Procrastination just makes you broke and lazy. As far as legallities go my rule is after you make $5000 in a few months or a year on any small business then that's the time to take the step to LLC and all that legal mess.

PRICING IS EVERYTHING!!!!! Don’t start off (or continue) being that low price provider in order to get business. Low price=death blow to your business. Even if you have a crappy truck or no truck,a push mower and a push broom. You still need to charge a substantial amount or you will never get a better vehicle a better mower better hand held equipment. There’s an old saying , you have to keep them how you got them. If you start mowing peoples’ yards for 25 or 30 bucks they’re going to expect that year after year to year. Shoot high set a minimum for yourself like 40 or 50. That way you will weed out the cheap Charlie’s and get people who don’t mind paying that amount. Also don’t get stuck on weekly versus biweekly take what you get, Not all yards are the same. Some need weekly, some need biweekly. Charge bigger prices for biweekly it’s going to take you longer and they’re paying less per month than weekly clients. Learn from other peoples mistakes that is key. Take all advice and put it to work. The lawn care millionaire is the guru if you want to make it to the top.

@@jonlawrence6338 Hey Jonathan!!!! Doing great here! Are you mowing lawns? That's what we've been doing. Started with a push-mower in 2015 to make a few dollars (I had all day to make $30). Last season we had 230 weekly lawn mowing customers. I am very humbled by how God has blessed us! God is so good!

I have a lawn care buisness and work for myself. I enjoy doing it and make great money. Don't want to deal with the hassle of hiring employees I also just use a cargo van instead of a pickup truck. Much easier to load and unload my equipment

Employees are a huge hassle but necessary for those people who build a company that makes money while they are doing other things. A company done right builds residual income. Working in the field is great if it is your passion and you enjoy it but imagine being 80 years old with no retirement and trying to mow 300 properties a week by yourself because you don't have employees. Don't misunderstand, it's a free country and the best thing about being the owner is that you are the boss and you can run your business however you want. I'm just saying you could get hurt or have a health issue at any time and if you skip a week of service you will lose money, possible clients and possibly even your entire business. Growing a big company and diversification allows you to have options that an owner/operator will simply never have. Good luck with your business, I am glad it works for you.

My first business failed, it got to the point where it made me enough money to live on but I realized it was completely dependent on me working in the field. So this year I’ve rebranded my business. To have more of a professional look and name. Brought over some of the clients I had from the my old business that were most profitable and enjoyable customers. Doing advertising and getting ready for a new start. I hope to scale the business this time. Thank you for all of your information.

I have a topic I would love to see in a video... In past videos you often speak on how businesses ought to grow up to, or past, 1 million. You have spoken on how people get "stuck" in the half a million stage and cant get out from the bottlenecks (usually themselves) and they fall apart. Is it possible to be in that half a million stage and not be "stuck", but rather in a good spot where the business runs smoothly and can be easily maintained at that stage? I am speaking specifically for lawn care business. Thanks, you certainly have the best lawn care business content on youtube.

I have about 14 "dudes" that mow the grass right in my neighborhood, most think edging a property is when you go around the house with a string trimmer. The few that I got to know have magnets on their trucks that say "Fully Insured" however, when I talk to them they tell me they have $100,000 in liability insurance but no worker's compensation or unemployment which is required by law in our state. So those while there are many, many guys mowing most of them will never have a real company and will fail. We get calls all the time saying the guy from last year has a disconnected phone or isn't doing it anymore. When you do cheap work and end up not being able to repair your equipment because you don't make enough... that's a problem. This is all about starting a business the right way, house cleaning, pool service, pressure washing, lawn care, landscaping, tree trimming, etc.

Shouldn’t someone make sure they have Insurance before they get the first job? That’s the way I’m starting, because I would hate the mower fling a stone at a house without Insurance & having a LLC.

If you have that in place before Day One - that's awesome. A lot of people spend so much time kicking tires on all the pieces of starting a business that they never actually get started.
