With that last line, he didn't want to quit. I was a heroin addict, and stopped because I was getting so ill. If you want to stop you can easily get help.

You’re ready when you’re sick and tired of being sick and tired. I’ve seen it and been there as well as well as meth addiction. Layne lost everything the way he saw it because he lost everything he wanted; a father and his long time best friend and ex girlfriend, Demri. Without either one of them, especially because his father used him, he didn’t feel he had anything to live for. You get clean when you are done with that life and want to live and feel everything again.

Yeah, I think that nobody could have saved Layne except for Layne, and he didn't want to.

@@Hollyucinogen bingo. That’s just addiction. I’m a recovering addict, and I’ve tried saving others still actively participating in addiction, but truth is, they can only save themselves and only when they’re ready. Layne was never ready unfortunately, and that breaks my heart because he was such an immense talent and a beautiful soul and it’s sad he could never love himself enough to do so. But I get it. And it sucks when you’re the one who gets clean only to watch everyone you grew up with dropping like flies, gives you survival guilt. Layne just didn’t want to feel anymore, and he felt it was too late because of his failing health condition toward the end. He was losing hope for himself. I lost all my teeth like he did, I got mine replaced. It’s never too late. If only he could’ve realized it. But maybe he did, but he wanted to be with Demri, and felt lost because he spent his whole life searching for his father only to find out his father only came back into his life because he saw him on a magazine cover and saw he was famous and rich and could score him heroin since he was also a user. Truly sad… My mom did that to me when I finally found her and I had to cut her out of my life. I just wish Layne could’ve had the strength and the will to save himself…

you can get help but it's not easy. If it's "easy" you havent' progressed into late stage addiction--there would also be many more sober people

I will always wonder why Layne didnt get a doctor and get on a high level methadone maintenance program. He could of had a doctor make house calls, bring the stuff and sedatives. Maybe he did I never heard it, and ik methadone isnt the best but its better than IVing black tar H 15 times a days.

Layne did enter the rehab atleast like 10 times but it never worked out. Thats the information in Mark Langegan's book.

You have to WANT to get clean. It's a hard ass battle even when you do want to but IMPOSSIBLE if you don't care to. I think Layne was a special kind of "addicted" where there was no fight, no effort to combat the demon, he sadly lay down and let the ol bitch consume his soul

Back then they were prescribing methadone and bueph( subutex/ suboxone) at the same time. That alone will mess your emotions up and confuse the body and mind

@@marissac870 At the same time to one patient? That's physically impossible. Suboxone has naloxone (Narcan) in it which acts as an opiate blocker. Anyone who has dealt with these would know if you took the two together you would have what's called reverse withdrawal and you would instantly be sent to the ER as the naloxone and methadone would butt heads with ea other causing tremendous issues. Maybe you meant either/or one of the two. In that case they still prescribe it daily everywhere. Suboxone is what is safe and slowly you ween off. However I've seen methadone patients stay on for decades. They are generally the worst classified opioid addicts and the thought is basically "better they get a safe dose from us than OD on the street"
