No soul can replace another soul.William DuVall is a complete musician. Vocally,Lead and rhythm guitar, songwriter. He has done a amazing job.Why shouldn't the 3 surviving members continue to play? Layne derailed the band in 95. Layne was beyond human aid.He was chasing something that was chasing him. Hopelessness prevailed. We miss him. The other guys have a right to live.

DuVall really doesn’t add a lot to the group. The albums without Layne are pretty underwhelming. Jerry can’t do it all alone. I think it’s evident when you listen to the most recent albums and I think it’s fair to judge them as AIC albums, and as AIC albums they just aren’t that good. While the Layne albums are all classics, that’s really all there is to it.

@@AndI0td763 exactly. These last 3 albums really show how integral Staley was to the band. The magic formula involved him + Jerry. It's just a farcry from what it was, and I believe anyone who says differently is just fooling themselves. There's a reason I keep coming back to the Staley era albums all the time, but after listening to Rainier Fog, Devil and BGWTB each a lot, I just eventually lost interest no matter how much I want to love them. Its not THE AIC without Staley. He was a great musician and a unique talent, not just a vocalist.

Susan Silver did everything she could to help Layne. She even hired bodyguards to keep him away from people who might try to pass him drugs. You can't save someone who doesn't want to be saved. Rest in peace, Layne.

Being friends with Layne for 5+ years...In my heart, Demri;s passing and him being exposed to the Evil's behind the music industry ( Harvey / Epstein ) type chit. Layne had a heart of gold, and me, myself would be traumatized to seek chemical's to numb the pain. God Bless your soul Layne !!! Jeff Hubbard

Dang dude . If what uou said is true I’m sorry about you losing a friend . Almost 20 years ago I moved into an apt right off of 45 just a block from Layne’s condo . I went to the rainbow bar sometimes back then and one of the bartenders said Layne used to come into the bar once in a while a couple years before and it was pretty said . He said Layne was in bad shape and would just nod off at a table by himself , usually . Anyways idk if you went down the same road but If you did I hope you found your way out .

I left the music scene when Susan and Kelly told the guys that I could not be part of the crew. I went on to win 5 Nascar championships at Evergreen Speedway. AIC sponsored my car in 1994. I knew it! I've always said that something happened to Layne that was driving him full-speed into addiction, that no one knew about or talked about, and I figured it was some Harvey Weinstein or Jani Lane type of horror show in the music business. Thanks for confirming, although vaguely, that I'd been right all along.

Susan didn't give a shit about Layne and his addiction. Even when he was deteriorating she wanted them to continue working. Jerry put his foot down and told her the band's taking time off so Layne can get better. Their song Sludge Factory has a lot to do with her and other higher ups in the industry. Many songs did. SF in particular has some lyrics pointed directly at her. I understand heroin addiction all too well as have been an addict for over 20+ years. It's a soul destroying hell that I wouldn't wish on anyone. It's not just the physical side of it either. The mental cravings are debilitating to the point you become one track minded and it haunts your dreams. Getting over the physical withdrawals is just the beginning because you have a lifetime of mental cravings to follow. To anyone who's beaten it, I applaud you and wish you the best. I also envy the hell out of you. Stay strong❤.

It’s a shame that Andrew Wood’s passing wasn’t enough to keep Layne away from heroin. Apparently Layne was very upset when Andy passed away so it’s a shame that he went down the same road.

The number of dead from the Gen X-era bands is astounding. It was so fun when it all started (late 80's), exploded in the fall of '91, and all these years later most of the shining lights of this, what to call it... a movement of sorts, are long gone. Sad.

This is very true, and I feel like in a lot of cases is only being noticed now. I mean yes, quote unquote “rock star” as a profession has historically been a hazardous, dead-young kind of profession, but not on the massive scale of this era, especially when you start thinking about suicide…

I remember hearing about his death in 2002 on the radio on 95 will rock. I only knew a few of their songs: Rooster, Man in the box, would, again, down in a hole, them bones, no excuses, and I think I stay away. But had no clue how influential they actually were. This was of course before social media and youtube and I was 6 at the time, (they played their stuff a lot, and it was one of those bands I could actually enjoy on a dialy basis). But, I think staind did a tribute to layne and a few other major bands along with them. I was curious later on in maybe 2017 what had happend and saw a lot of their performances and other videos. Dug deeper. Wow, had no clue how sad his downfall was. So tragic. What is even sadder is how layne drove cobain to a place and cobain talked about frances with layne and how excited he was about the whole thing. But had no clue how big alice in chains was to the rock world. I've been an AIC fan since.

Unfortunately that's the music business folks. The manager's job is to keep the client working so everybody can keep getting paid. It has no conscience. It doesn't care. We've seen the story how many times? With how many different artists that died? I was in the business for many many years. It doesn't care. It just wants to get paid.

You know what I don't feel sorry for these people like Staley...i was addicted to opiates for over a decade and I got sober have been for 12 years now...and I get it I was a musician and a blues man and i romanticized this whole deal about being a druggie and all of that business...but that's all a lie and a trick that the devil plays on you...here is the deal... either you want a better life for yourself or you love dope more...its really that simple..and Layne clearly loved dope more ...and when your in that frame of mind you don't think about anything else or anyone else its all about not getting dope sick..i know all about that business.. But there comes a point where you either wake up and say i can't do this anymore and I don't want to this anymore or I'm going to die... that's how it worked for me...i was in my bathroom going thru my mourning regiment of getting my shot of whiskey ready and had my three 30mg morphine pills in my hand..I popped the pills in my mouth and picked up the glass of whiskey to wash the pills down with and when I looked up i saw myself in the mirror and I just and looked at my sunken eyes and just stopped and started crying...i knew right then and there i as done and this would be the last time i ever got high again ...i took the shot swallowed the morphine and went and told my wife i was done...I had already been to rehab twice but I was just playing the game until I could get out and get high again...so it's really all about being sick and tired of being sick and tired and I was really just so sick and tired I wanted out...I went back to rehab took it seriously and worked a program went to my meetings got a sponsor and have been sober ever since...to be honest about it I don't really even think about it anymore...I took the steps I needed to take and moved on with my life...but I want everyone to know I couldn't have done it alone ...i had support from my wife my children and most importantly i had help from God....its a long tough road but it can be done....I know speak at N.A. meetings and try and give some kind of inspiration for those who are struggling with addiction.....✝️✝️✝️

“I’ll try my best” sounds like something an addict would say when they’re trying to stop using for the wrong reasons. Like, they’re not really ready to stop and they’re doing it for someone else,as a favor. Any addict knows that this approach will not end in success. If you’re not at the point to where you WANT to quit using, you shouldn’t even bother trying to rehab. However, asking or requesting an addict to “just stop” is like asking someone to just stop eating. There’s no chance in HELL that’s gonna happen. The IMMENSE fear of withdrawal, known as dope-sickness,has got to be THE major factor in keeping an addict in chains,so to speak. And today’s fentanyl (since heroin is,now, obsolete on the American market) produces even stronger, more intense withdrawals than heroin EVER did!

This is what Mark Lanegan describes in one of his books. He found Layne at home who had returned from rehab the same day to obtain heroin discreetly because he didn't want to be seen around the dealers. Lanegan disagreed, since Layne was clean. But he replied that he had done the detoxification treatment to please everyone who was putting pressure on him, and that if he didn't give it to him he would look for it elsewhere. Lanegan relented. Layne's mother said she was outraged because there was no follow-up after rehab and her son immediately fell back into his addiction.

People do drugs to tell you they are in pain, but in doing that they put themselves in chanis they will most likely not break. There is nothing romantic about self inflicted pain. There is nothing nothing romantic in being lost and sinful. If layne were to speak about his life he would be full of shame and sorrow- oh wait he has, he also called himself a junkhead
