After touching on this year's rostermania in the LCK and LEC, this week Thorin and Monte turn their discussions to North America and Europe. With Cloud9's acquisition of Jojopyun, will they be the presumptive title favorites in the LCS? Over in China, Knight has announced his move to BLG, Weiwei signs with LNG, and OMG topside moves to NiP to play alongside Rookie. Riot finally steps in to takeover the LPL English broadcast as well, but it comes at the cost of downsizing the already meager casting crew on the league.

I need this type of information, I can get all the info on a player's form by watching them play, but the nitty gritty details that goes on behind the scenes is what I need. On an alternative note, and from Riot's point of view, if they were to promote LPL to Western audiences during regular seasons, it would most certainly, for the very least, greatly reduce the already meager viewership of LCS to almost nonexistence since everyone will just give their attention to the more entertaining region(not that by not promoting the LPL region, LCS is somehow doing any better in viewers); it may also waver the LEC viewership a bit in same way.

To say NRG is optimistically a 3rd place team is wild. In spring regular season CLG was 1-1 vs C9 and in summer they were 2-0 vs C9 then went on to smoke them in playoffs. They are literally the only NA team with a positive win record vs C9 for the past 2 splits - a team that has been considered the best team in NA for the past 2-3 years. At worlds NRG was the best western team to show up and only lost to the world finalists. Saying other teams in the LCS have upgraded while NRG has stayed the same is the same narrative analysts have been pushing for the past 2+ splits when NRG has proven sticking together has been a benefit for them.
@PeoplePleaser578
@PeoplePleaser578 7 ай бұрын
Performance from last year is not reflective of this year. NRG never had the best players, they overperformed massively in summer at the same time that Flyquest and Golden Guardians collapsed. C9 had huge issues in summer that they could not fix… NRG basically got insanely lucky. In spring they were a mid tier team - which was how they performed in the end. They could win, but other teams have improved (Like C9) to be better than them.
@ggeoffreyy9411

@@PeoplePleaser578 Performance from last 2 splits is the only thing we have to analyze moving into the next split/year of LCS. We dont know how the other teams roster moves will pan out until it plays out. To say other teams have improved is literally the same narrative GG, Flyquest, C9 and other teams had coming into last split.. and look how it went. If NRG got insanely lucky and fluked their way to winning LCS it still doesn't explain them being the best Western team at worlds or was that insane luck as well? Ultimately league is a team game it's not about having the best players, its about being the best team.
@PeoplePleaser578

@@ggeoffreyy9411 Okay. CLG spring - 5th. Summer - 1st. C9 - 1st and 2nd in each respective split. C9 upgraded at Support and Midlane by picking up the MVP from last season… they have 100% improved and it’s a reasonable take to say that. Flyquest - 3rd into complete collapse and reset for this year. MVP Jungler. Former top tier midlaner. Former top tier Toplaner. Both of which have been considered top in their roles within the last 2 years. A solid young Support. It’s reasonable to believe that they will perform better. It is a team game but when it comes to analysis you have to assess the individual parts… Individually both teams look better. It’s reasonable to assume at this point that those teams perform better on paper. NRG were a mid tier team that caught a lot of throws in playoffs… assuming they just win out of hand because of last year, they were a 9-9 team that peaked as other teams collapsed. That’s it.
@stone_pilot
@stone_pilot 7 ай бұрын
They have a positive win record vs “C9” except that C9 has made significant changes to its roster, so outside of the letters “C9” it’s not actually the same team that they beat. I expect NRG to perform better than other teams because they’ve proven they were among the best, if not the best, in LCS, but it isn’t as simple as NRG beat C9 repeatedly => proves they do it again. Two C9 player changes might not seem significant but it WILL change the playstyle. Vulcan has a history of being better at melee champions whereas Zven was better at ranged champions. Jojo does not have a history of making the kinds of mistakes Emenes was making. Given the changes that Riot is making to the map, it makes a lot of sense to evaluate these teams based on historical *individual* performance. The meta is going to be different, including macro because of void grubs. Jungling will change because top is safer now. This may benefit a player like Blaber, who is known as a farming jungler. Contractz absolutely smurfed vs G2, I was rooting for NRG so hard those games. But historically he doesn’t consistently play like that. Is it reasonable to expect him to perform like that just because he’s demonstrated that he can? Can we expect NRG to maintain that form? we haven’t seen this C9 team play. But we have seen its elements, and I think they are individually compelling.
@ggeoffreyy9411
@ggeoffreyy9411 7 ай бұрын
Individually C9 has improved but it is still unknown how that plays out team wise. To me there are still problems C9 need to fix and potential new problems with a new roster. Fudge has progressively gotten worse as a player since his rookie split while needing the most amount of jungle attention from Blaber when C9s clear best carry is Berserker. Not to mention Fudge and Baber have objectively bad synergy that can be seen inside and outside of the game. On paper and personally I do think Vulcan is an upgrade from Zven if we ignore all of last year with him going 9th on Fly. But Berserker has been playing with Zven for 2 years.. its not unreasonable to say it could take some time to adjust to a new support after 2 years with Zven. Still, unless the meta changes back to ADC and/or Blaber starts focusing on getting Berserker fed I'm not sure how more impactful Vulcan will be vs Zven. Its true its not as simple as NRG beat C9 repeatedly proves they can do it again but as a jungle main, though only D4, when I watch C9 games its clear if you beat Blaber it becomes a whole lot easier to beat C9 and historically Contractz has consistently gotten the better of Blaber. Even Blaber himself has said that. Jungle and map changes happen every couple seasons, this is nothing new. In the end, the best team will prevail, not the individual. Based on history and Riots general trend for jungle I really doubt we go back to the jungle farming meta. If worlds was any indication at all its clear jungle powerfarming is not a thing amongst top tier teams.

They also lost to GENG in Swiss.
