Learning To Fly Episode 004 - EGBW 4th Pattern at Wellesbourne Mountford

My 4th official circuit of the EGBW pattern. This went better than before, which is good because it shows definite improvement, but there's still more I need to work on to ensure the pattern is done correctly and the landing is smoother.
This is on my custom Wellesbourne Mountford scenery which can be downloaded at: flightsim.to/file/1191/egbw-w...
I'm also using the modified version of the Cessna 152 which can be downloaded at: github.com/DRF30q/C152X

Just downloaded your latest EGBW scenery file. Fabulous. As one of my friends at South Warwickshire Flying School commented 'Touchdown cafe and control tower added, so if you want a virtual big breakfast whilst sitting outside in the virtual sunshine.....'.

Imagine how nice it will be in VR, just sitting there enjoying the sun :) I'm working on adding planes to the museum for the next release, plus custom windsocks and a custom antenna (is it the radar on the field across from the tower?). Then I'll tackle the heliair buildings!

Flying Theston The object on the field is some type of disused navigation aid from the RAF days, not radar but similar to a VOR transmitter. The existing object is pretty close but it needs a mini-VOR antenna array on top. I'll try to get some photos.

my thrust master rudder pedals stick a bit - WD40 will not harm the plastic. Also, the latest update allows a deadzone either side of the centre access so you might find that helps with the sensitivity for small inputs

I've found some wd40 that is a dry lube spray that seems to be a good choice so I may get some and try it, hopefully it will fix the sticking. it's a real pain when trying to do slight adjustments

Brilliant. Excellent landing, well done. Thanks for modelling the scenery, it really makes me feel at home. When this COVID thing is over I'll take you for a real circuit at EGBW. BTW, how do you get all the parked aircraft to appear, I've set Ground Aircraft Density in Traffic Settings to maximum but nothing is appearing.

Glad you're liking the scenery, it's really starting to come along but plenty more to do still! A real circuit at EGBW sounds super exciting!! As for the parked traffic, you need to set your ground aircraft density like you've done but then you have to work around the silly bug to get it to show up. Go to your General Options in game and go to Graphics, then scroll all the way down and make sure "Use generic plane modes (AI Traffic)" is set to "off" as well as "Use Generic Plane Models (Multiplayer)" is set to "off" as well. Then you should see in game traffic (you may need to restart the game to see it)

Thanks. As regards your question regarding the second holding point for 05, I'm not sure as we never use it. I'll try to find out.

Great video and great custom airfield. Which rudder pedals are you using with msfs2020? I’m just using a dual shock PlayStation Controller which despite having a right joystick does not provide for analogue rudder inputs unlike the ailerons so makes rudder control almost impossible

I use a CH Flight Yoke and CH Rudder Pedals, the link for them is in the video description

Just need your first cross country now to Bidford, then maybe sort out the hedges, trees and hangers over there. . . .

I plan to model bidford at some point, I really could do with some good reference photos of the area though, there aren't that many on google to work with.

For a more realistic night-flying experience I have discovered a red-flashlight mod for the C152 which can be downloaded from www.allflightmods.com/microsoft-flight-simulator-2020/msfs2020-other/red-flashlight-night-mod-v1-0/ There is an error in the README.txt file. The Red file needs to replace the existing FLASHLIGHTMASK.TIF file in ..MSFS2020/Official/Onestore/fs-base-effects-legacy/effects/texture folder. By default the flashlight is turned on & off using Alt+L.
