Leatherman Squirt P4: "Sub Compact Efficient" by Nutnfancy

The Squirt can handle most everyday tool taskings. Other Squirt models, as of 2008, include the E4 (wire strippers) and the S4 (scissors version). For me, the P4 is the most useful with it tiny pliers, pen blade, flat bladed drivers, file (cool!) and wonderful punch awl (all MTs should have this!). But this 2.0 oz sub-compact MT does have some limitations: don't expect the pliers to have great metal cutting or torque capabilities. Blame Isaac Newton as it's just a function of the Squirt's tiny size. As far as tiny MTs go, this is the best.

I won one of these Squirts in a putting contest and just recently added it to my keychain. I love it! It frequently comes in handy. I don't buy your 'wearing out your car's ignition" viewpoint. It's not really heavy enough to do that and I don't carry many keys on my keychain. I love the little knife it has. Extremely sharp. You can shave with it. If I did not own this one, and bought one off their website, I might go with an upgrade though.

Still my most used tool. Always on my key chain, always with me. Side note, I always keep my car key solo, hate things jingling as I drive.

the new ones are ES4 and PS4 meaning each model, pliers and wire cutters has a small pair of scissors built in the handle

Nice review. I have a micra, even smaller I believe, but I don't use it because the blade is snapped off on the knife (can't complain, I found it on the ground)... So I'm in the market for a new Leatherman, I'm leaning towards the juice or the skeletool.. Thanks again for the review great job.

i just ordered a p4 on sale for 23 euros wich is about 30 bucks. a fair deal imo. i think it'll hold up pretty nicely in my edc as a MT and a backup for my centofante III

My mechanic told me if your key chain is too heavy overtime this weight will wear-out the ignition (it takes a while). He said it is because of all the bouncing around while driving.

I was lucky enough to get one free, well actually my dad was and I snatched it up. :) I DO carry it on my keychain but with few other keys. :D Also I disagree on the angle of grip on the pliers. I think it is better because between about 2-5 mm you have a flat grip on the item. Whereas if it was flat on close then the back of the pliars would be grasping the item only. Otherwise good review. And I forget it is in my pocket too. Thanks again.

Hey Nutn. I noticed you were talking about the angle of the pliers coming together... Of course one wants the pliers to have a 'flat' purchase on the task at hand. If the pliers came together flat, then when opened even a little, the angle would be obtuse so to speak. So I'm guessing they made the angle slightly 'acute' so that when opened slightly to grasp something they hold flatter. Feel free to weigh-in on that

The Squirt S4 would be perfect for my job where I work in an office and I can't actually carry a lot in my pants pocket and I would need scissors, screwdrivers immediately when away from my office. In comparison, the Victorinox Classic doesnt have screwdrivers and has puny scissors.

i would have picked the scissors - heck, if im in a situation that there is even a small chance i might need a woodfile or pliers i will get myself ready with a juice or something bigger. but as a tool that should be on me all the time- scissors and nail file is just enough.

nutn, I'm going to have to disagree with you on the angle of the pliers jaws. If you're grasping something that's paper thin, then sure, the jaws will be angled. But if your grabbing something that 1-3mm thick, those jaws are going to open up and become parallel to each other, which is optimal. I believe Leatherman does this on purpose, as my Surge is the same way. Oh, and I will say I am jealous that your Squirt came with a sheath. I'm going to see if I can find one anywhere on the cheap.
