Yet another new release by Lectric Ebikes! This time a "PREMIUM" version of their popular folding ebike with a ton of great part upgrades. But, is it worth the extra cost?

As a long time record producer and voiceover talent myself, I’d like to commend this gentleman on his excellent speaking voice. He’s got excellent pronunciation, his voice is calm and very warm. The pacing is very good. It’s pretty amazing to see how many sites there now are on KZfaq about electric bicycles. I’ve been in the electric light vehicle world sense the year 1999 and I’m really glad to see how many companies are jumping into the game. Remember the more companies enter this niche, the better the pricing will become. This particular bicycle seems to be an example of that trend, a trend which I welcome. When one reads about an electric bicycle that cost six or seven or $10,000 it’s just so incredibly annoying. Now please bear in mind that I am a pot smoking, tree hugging, hippie who missed Vietnam by about 15 minutes so I’m not interested in any kind of status attained through a vehicle, especially a bicycle. I mean, it’s a bicycle for crying out loud. And remember the most important thing is how solid is the company? If things go bad what’s their service like? one of the missing components of this industry. Now I’m saying this as an old school bike mechanic. I got into the business in the 1980s, and even now in 2022 there are so many local bike shops that have that shitty attitude, like a wow man like I don’t deal with electric bikes man…I’m a real bike rider man you know? So you get your fucking fat hippie ass out of my shop motherfucker? Oops! Did I say that out loud? I guess I did. But you know what I mean, right? It’s like there was a time when bike couriers were all attitude and flipping you the bird and all that kind of shit? So hopefully your local bike shop will get hip to the fact that the baby boomers age wave is definitely upon us and us oldsters want to get out and about - it’s great to have an electric bike when you have arthritis, heart conditions, are addicted to painkillers, drink like a fish, still can’t quite give up the cigarettes, and that syphilis you got in Saigon in 68? Bummer days, brother just can’t quite shake that itch. Anyway I digress. And now I egress……

I went with the XPremium over the XP2.0 and I am well pleased. Those batteries really last. I find it surprising how many miles you can cover on a charge. I am 300lbs and 66 years old. I mainly ride in gears 3, 4, or 5 with the Pedal Assist in either 2, 3, or 4. Plenty fast for me. Just rode 21 miles on paved bike trails along Rio Grande River trails in Albuquerque and could have done plenty more. The battery only went down 2 bars. Plenty of leftover reserve. I take my bike out multiple times before I recharge my batteries. I only have one charger and it only takes about 4 hours to recharge a battery and then I plug in the other battery and charge it another 4 hours or so. There is a light indicator to tell you the battery is charged up full. I heard every say all these warning tips about don't start up in Pedal Assist and don't turn sharp corners while in Pedal Assist but I have no problems doing this. You just need to get familiar with you bike and how it handles first. I think the XPremium handles so smooth. And the main reason I chose XPremium was because it is so quiet while operating. While watching XP2.0 videos I always heard a whine that I didn't like but the XPremium is really quiet and it also has Cruise Control if you need it to get home in a hurry. A really nice feature.

i have a several year old rad rover that i commuted on 5 miles each way for a couple of years. i also have an xp 1.0 (no front suspension), and while customer service with both has been great, lectric is better. had some minor shipping damage with the xp, but they helped me sort it out. so: i'm going to sell both bikes and have purchased an xpremium. i like the cargo racks on my rover, which are not an option on my xp 1.0, so i ordered the factory racks for the new bike as well. i like your recommendation on the pogo seat. i'll prolly go with that❣️👍

I wish they would have added the blue frame color version to the XP premium e-bike too. I want one, and I would also purchase the dog trailer with it; this bike would be used to go bike touring/camping with. It is a benefit to have an e-bike with longer range and the electric boost capability, especially ones with mid drives (they are the best when it come to performance, use of electric energy from battery, and climbing hills) with the addition that of a longer base foundation for taller/bigger riders :). Also I wish the rear rack adapted for this frame would hold up to at least 80lbs and I would recommend the 3" tires over the current 4" ones for road gravel bike touring and I would upgrade their rear derailleur to a higher quality shimano set up, and a suspension seatpost (Suntour NCX), maybe even (if it can) upgrade to an 8 speed cassette rather than a 7-spd, and the cassette shifter to be thumb and index microshifting system. Good price for what it currently offers. However, the first batch of sold bikes and over passing time, I know lectric will upgrade their next model of this e-bike.

Question is just thought of. Maybe you can ask the guys at Lectric. I'm a big believer in charging to 80% to prolong battery life. On my current ebike, I can do this easily. I can see the battery voltage and and I know how much my charger inputs per hour. So I just use a timer. Now, you can use this method on the XP 2.0 since you are able to see the voltage. But on the XPremium, how will this work since there are 2 batteries that may have 2 very different voltage levels? Isn't the screen only set up to display voltage for one battery? How can I know the voltage of each individual battery to then be able to charge by timer?
@ElectricRidesUT
@ElectricRidesUT 2 жыл бұрын
Hmm.. good question. You'd probably have to use a multimeter or an inline voltage meter. Normally, with a 2 battery system I would say just pop on 1 battery and read the voltage and then take it off and put on the 2nd battery but I hear the XPremium won't turn on unless the integrated "down tube" battery is inserted, even if you have the 2nd battery hooked up.
@njdad0103
@njdad0103 Жыл бұрын
@@ElectricRidesUT Interesting discussion about the power draw from a 2-battery system. I heard on another review that the batteries are wired in parallel, drawing power from both simultaneously, so you can't use up one battery then remove the spent one to save weight and finish the ride on a fully charged 2nd battery. Does the XPremium have a single charge port for both batteries?
@ElectricRidesUT
@ElectricRidesUT Жыл бұрын
@@njdad0103 From what I've heard they are connected in parallel but the integrated frame battery has to be inserted to complete the connection to the controller. So you can run with just the battery in the downtube without the seat tube battery. However, you can't run with the seat tube battery and not have the downtube battery inserted. A bit odd.
@njdad0103
@njdad0103 Жыл бұрын
@@ElectricRidesUT odd, but kinda makes sense... It would be weird to ride with a gaping hole in your downtube, and for daily commute maybe you don't want to have the 2nd battery that you would want for a day-long tour. I just wonder what the design advantage was, to draw from both batteries vs. having a toggle to switch to the "aux tank" when your 1st battery is empty (sorry for the fossil fuel analogy 😝)

Thanks for the review! What height of a person would be comfortable for either of these bikes?
@ElectricRidesUT
@ElectricRidesUT Жыл бұрын
Thank you, appreciate it! From what I can see from Lectric's site they still haven't updated to show the Lite's or XPremium's recommended heights. The XP 2.0's is 5'0 - 6'4 and 2.0 Step-Thru's is 4'10 - 6'3. The XPremium has about the same standover height so I'd assume the recommended height range would be about the same as the XP 2.0 step-thru's.

Would probably work well, depending on how much you depend on the throttle since it has a relatively small battery. Unless you buy the "long range" 14 Ah version.

I ordered an XPremium as it checked most of the boxes I was wanting in an ebike, and at a substantially better price than anything in its class, to date anyways.

@@ElectricRidesUT I think they will do well with the growing demand for car alternatives as gas prices are already very high and getting worse. Electric cars are a good option but $$$. Short trips by e-bike are a great way to get around. Also lobbying for better bike infrastructure locally. It really is a game changer. Just last night I was tired and ordered take out to pick up about a mile away. I was going to drive our family car but decided to ride my XP 2.0. I’m glad I did, it’s so much fun. Just roll up to the pizza shop downtown, grab the food, put it on my front rack and headed home. Turning heads as I went up hills at 15mph

What size is the Lectric XPremium seat post ?
@ElectricRidesUT
@ElectricRidesUT Жыл бұрын
I don't see a listing for the stock seatpost, but the Xpremium suspension seatpost that Lectric sells is 30.4mm diameter by 14” / 350mm length. So, I'd assume the stock was around that size as well.

With mid-drives you just have to be conscious of what gear you are in. If you are stopped in a high gear and hit full throttle/torque you have the potential of breaking a chain or a cog or something worse.

@@ElectricRidesUT: Sorry I should have been more specific, what are the batteries expected life span?
@ElectricRidesUT
@ElectricRidesUT Жыл бұрын
@@mudpuppy8740 Like mileage it is very dependent on usage and maintenance. If Lectric is using Samsung/LG battery cells then they usually have a lifespan of 1000 charge cycles (ride bike drain to dead and the recharge =1 charge cycle). But if you store the battery improperly for a long time or charge while the battery is hot or cold then it won't last as long.

I just mean it takes getting used to compared to a geared hub. You can't just jump on the bike and hit the throttle like a hub drive ebike.
