As requested by some viewers, this is a short video describing wiring of my permanent LED lighting system. This uses a 12v DC power supply, 12v lighting, 5v DC power supply and a 5v relay. The 5v power supply maintains power on the DigQuad, when you log into WLED and trigger the LED lights to turn on, this sends a signal to the 5v relay to open and allow 110v power to the 12v power supply to turn the lights on. This allows for very low power usage while maintaining full control of the lighting system. The DigQuad stays on, while the LED's are off.

Can't tell you how many times I referred to this diagram for my own setup, thank you. Ended up splitting the 230 AC power and getting a second 5v PSU to power the relay. Main reason to get a relay was the 12v meanwell PSU had horrible coil whine and this solves it.

Thank you so much. I thought I was on track to correctly recreate another control box by what you discussed in earlier videos. Now, I am more confident that I am. Correct me if you know and believe im wrong that if I need to inject power for further string runs... that I would need to be sure to run injection power from the same power supply. What I'm thinking to do is tie in a pair of additional wires onto the side terminals (vcc&neutral) of the 1st associated booster terminal, like you placed in your box, right where you mounted it to your control box. With these additional injection wires, I do plan to add an additional in-line booster (2nd). To do so, I plan to take the Data Out signal from the previous LED run and connect it too, onto the additional inline booster along with the side terminal wires i mentioned above; should i need to of course. Does this sound right? 🤔 Again thx for teaching and sharing your project knowledge.

Yes, if you do power injection, it needs to come from the same power supply.

Please help me to understand a little better. Is your diagram for one half of your box? Meaning, I will need two 120 vac power cords with the hot going to each relay and the other two wires going to each LED power supply? Also, what gauge wire, or different gauge wires are you using? Thanks, I learned a lot from your video.

Yes, you will need a power cord (14GA) and a relay for each power supply and Dig Quad. Here is what I used: Bergen Industries Inc PS915143 3-Wire Appliance and Power Tool Cord, 9 ft, 14 AWG, 15A/125V AC, 1875w,Black a.co/d/0yiRzOT

Amazing. Question. Presumably you can use a buck (12v to 5v) inverter instead of a separate 5v power source?

You mean a buck converter? Yes, should work just fine for 5v lights but why not just use a 5v plug. Like a phone charger. As long as it supplies enough amps to handle the load.

@@1SpudNuts1BigNasty-DIY Ahh but you wont be able to use the 12v same power supply? Only because I have a single run of AC power to the power supply and thats it, no easy option to add another power source. So can you add the buck to the same power supply that you're turning on and off from the relay?

@@qalih The signal to turn on/off the relay comes from the controller. The second (5v) is used to keep the controller powered without running the 12v. I guess you could but you’d just be running the 12v PSU constantly.

@@qalih Not sure how that would work since the relay is what controls the 110v (AC) for the 12v (DC) PSU. You’d still need 2 PSU’s.

@@1SpudNuts1BigNasty-DIY Thanks for confirming, seems like it. My only reason for a relay was due to the digquad overheating, but this is a separate thing I think. There are parts of the underside of the board that are getting extremely hot, I blew some fuses somehow so might be due to that.
