I’m only 21 but I loved listening to Steve wright on Radio 2. His passion and knowledge of music and genuine love for it was incredible. Listening to all the messages from listeners today makes me realise how much I missed of him all those years. A true radio legend.

@@jonsnow6741 Didn't you ever listen to SW in the A 1990? John Cole was the political correspondent at the time, (I think), & one of Steve's characters was a JC impersonator, John Bowle. Very clever, as JC had a Northern Ireland accent, well mimicked by whoever it was. Hence my comment. (esoteric: meant only for the initiated). "You're listenin' to the Steve Wright Show. The show that luvs ya, more than yer own fumly! Hahahah!!!" Brilliant. (also with a N.Ireland accent).

Ten years i listened to his voice in the afternoons at work .... Made me happy as I knew home time was coming .... Cold winters .... Dark evenings .... Summer days .... Also made me happy the smoothness of his perfect radio voice .... Always warm ❤

I was a paint and decorator back in the 80’s , I always listened to Steve wright in the afternoon..best thing on the radio back in the day . Sad sad day

I was driving when I heard the news of his death on radio 2 , I was shell shocked , I had listened to him for over 40 yrs from radio 1 to radio 2 and he felt like a friend , such a genuine talented broadcaster. Listening to Sarah Cox and Bobbie Pryor trying to hold it together for the rest of the show was heartbreaking and something I don't think I've ever experienced in all of my 59 yrs of listening to the radio , I couldn't help but shed a tear. R.I.P Steve Wright and thank you.

Must admit I feel rather sad hearing of steve's death. I first listened to him when i was at school in 1980 and then all the way through my working life until i took early retirement just before he left Radio 2 in 2022. RIP my old work mate

Such a shock to hear the passing of Steve Wright 😢 Such a talented dj, one of the best. I've listened to him for almost 40 years. It was only on Sunday I tuned in to Sunday love songs, as I always did. Condolences to his family and friends. R.I.P Steve 💔

The bbc did him dirty twice, kicked him off radio 1 in the early 90s then kicked off radio 2 in 2022. Both times his ratings were still huge.

What a legend he was, and what a mistake to get rid of him from BBC Radio 2. I moved my listening to Greatest Hits Radio when Ken Bruce went there and they have loads of the great old great presenters.

I was a regular listener to Steve Wright In The Afternoon at work between '79-'83 and just loved listening to charactors he created for his show. Some, if not all, just wouldn't be tolerated in todays UK full of progressive tools.

Only listened to radio 2 on a Sunday to Steve's love songs. The BBC controllers have made a mess of it, all the best DJs have left, Listen to greatest hits radio now. How could the BBC shelve his afternoon show ? just insane. I feel as if I've lost a mate I know that must sound stupid because i never met him, just heard him from his early days on the radio 1. then on 2 He was a one off. Rest in peace Steve heaven as gained the best DJ.

I think he was the best dj ever. I remember as a kid in st ives the ratio1 roadshow came to town with steve write. It was hilarious. I remember him throwing raw fish out into the crowd. Something about filtitting fish, it was all a bit crazy. But he seemed as good as ever right up till the evil bbc got rid of him.
