Ah that's great to hear! I wasn't sure if it was a problem with my unit as every legion I have tested before really throttles the GPU back in quiet and balanced! I agree it is fantastic to be able to game quietly on quiet mode with minimal performance loss :)

@@Vladyugi sorry for the late answer. I have some pictures of benchmarks I ran when I first got my L5P, but I till now did not run many benchmarks on the new L7. If you decide between 3070TI and RX6850M XT, get the RTX card if you also want to do creative work like video editing or 3d modelling/ animation. RTX cards really are the best in this regard. For pure gaming performance, I noticed a slight performance uplift from 3070TI to 6850M XT, not much but noticable. I absolutly love that I can run the L7 AMD version in silent mode and get nearly full performance, while with the L5P 3070TI version, I ran the laptop mostly in balanced mode (which equals to around 100W gpu wattage) and the performance was worse while being louder in games like Battlefield 2042. Pure gaming performance: 6850M XT (also nice to have 12GB VRAM instead of 8GB), for mixed usage: RTX 3070TI

​@@MashITTech Well, I am mostly interested in gaming performance since, to be honest, the 6000-series of CPU is no match for Intel's 12th gen beasts, while the mobile graphics 6850M XT seems to be very good and often more than comparable to nVidias mobile cards. So how does "Advantage edition" do for the whole and what is it really. If what I've suspect is true, AMD has a real chance of bringing back some real competition through the laptop/PC tablet market. Because this machine, despite some mishaps comes at a real bargain compared to brands like MSI, Ryzen, Alienware and even ASUS, even if they do very cool stuff. The support plan from Lenovo is half of Dell/Alienware, but I don't yet know if they are as good. Another thing that baffles me if you could squeeeze it in, is why people insist on talking about "Thunderbolt 4" when USB4 is the same AFAIK. The USB consortium have even promised to stop adding commas and Revs, so the next version would simply be USB5. Leave Thunderbolt to Apple, I say. Any idea about the laptop/desktop market share BTW? A long text, I know, but you asked for my wishes. 😊

Hi Teddy, thank you and happy new year to you too. Sorry for slow response, my kids brought home a nasty sickness bug and its gone right through the house 😂 I do still plan to do a follow up review on this model as I feel it is such a good machine for the price but with us moving to a new Studio we are really behind on filming. We are almost fully up and running though and content will be coming out as usual from mid next week!

glad it helped mate. I will be doing a video with more comparisons between the 7i and ryzen versions but in all honesty I am keeping the ryzen version for better battery and cooler palm rests. The intel CPU is better but in games you won't notice the difference and I have a desktop for my video editing

@@MashITTech that was my instinct as well . I even thought of waiting for next gen to start going into laptops until I realized they would be super expensive just like the 7i . Also many avid laptop gamers told me but something nice for 2k and in 2 years get another . Don’t spend 4k now and in 2-3 years want to upgrade . And that I’d be much happier if I did that way . So I went ahead and purchased without a full review but yours gave me peace of mind

Also Jared did a bunch of test between the 3070ti the 3080 and 3080ti and he said the few extra frames you get from going higher in price were not really worth the price to performance he recommended not going higher than a 3070ti in a laptop for the money ofcourse but with this one punching just above I’ll be super happy with the result coming from a desk top I patched together with a gtx1650 no external power . I’m used to being stuck at 59 FPSin COD . This will not only be my first laptop but also my first REAL gaming PC

@@MashITTech thank you again for all your help but I’m at a crisis ! I just got the laptop . I had NO CLUE about the AMD driver issues . I play tons of COD . And the recommended driver is 22.5.1 but everyone is saying it may not run MW2 unless you use the new untested 22.11.1 . Which drivers did you use ? If the new one was used did you have any crashes ?

@@goldwally1428 Sorry for the late reply - didn't see a notification for your post. No, it's not secondhand - it was brand spanking new from "Box". I just visited their website tonight and it looks like they (unfortunately) went out of business :( I'm really loving this laptop, does everything I need it to, great battery life on Linux for light tasks, makes a great desktop replacement, everything is user-upgradable, great display (etc etc etc). Just very happy with it.

Yes I was expecting 10 hours! I will keep playing as I have heard there is a bug on the power save mode with this model and I ran it in power saver. And I had hybrid enabled so the 6850xt should be switched off when not in use. I will keep playing and update you if I fix the issue

How do you completely disable the dGPU? This laptop runs in either hybrid mode or dGPU mode. The only laptop manufacturer I know that offers that feature is Asus ROG.

What is the total system power draw at 60hz & 200 nits brightness without RGB in hybrid mode? And is there a way to disable dGPU completely?

Don't hold your breath. The amd laptop's have been super slow to rollout. I wouldn't expect the next gen stuff to be widely available until late summer/fall at the soonest.

I am going to spend more time looking at the CPUs and GPUs performance in the intel vs amd vs video. There is so much to try and cram into the review I just couldn't fit it all in one video. Thanks for pointing it out though

@@MashITTech I am in the US. Keep checking their website like every other day hoping they get re-stocked before Christmas. I want this as a traveling CAD system since AMD can’t seem to get a Radeon Pro class mobile chipset out to compete with Nvidia’s Quadro mobile chips.

The alienware m17r5 has a 175w 6850xt which is easily as powerful as a 3080ti

the laptop at graphic intensive gaming will only gives cpu 30w , at 30w the 6800h is faster than intel, also at higher wattage 6850m is afsater than 3080ti, so amd will have a 5-10% lead imo.

@@xruud24 at 30W gaming, no intel can beat AMD. imagine if a game uses 4 core or 6 at gaming the cpu has to feed rest of the cores from the 30w.

@@MashITTech No worries, AMD did not make this clear to consumers at all, nor do they require OEMs to disclose this kind of information to consumers. About a week after I got my Ryzen 6000 laptop it started to kick in and I was getting an extra hour of battery

This is how all my previous legions have behaved! What model and conjuration do you have? I don't understand why I am get full GPU power on quiet mode (and I am not the only one). The intel model throttled the GPU heavily on quiet and a little on balanced

That’s nothing to do with the size of the power brick but everything to do with razers throttling thin chassis! Alienware have a slim 330w adapter for the x17 and x15 and they allow the laptops to run full power. If they switch to GAN chargers they will have the same capacity whilst being much much smaller

@@MashITTech that’s really good to know 👍🏻 My Razer blade’s battery bloated twice in 3 years and I had to pay them $150 each time they fixed it for me

The razer battery bloat is for 2 reasons. 1. They use cheap cells and 2. They let the battery get way too hot in the thin chassis. The cells they use are rated for less than 45c but it gets way hotter because of the thin aluminium chassis radiating the heat

That model is a real beast, I reviewed it about a month ago and the power is incredible! Does get quite hot though

@@Muhammad.Ahmad94 flawless in my opinion, I recall reading the Ryzen processor ran cooler and thus could sustain a full load at max speeds for longer, but in reality, you probably won't ever need the full power of the processor for long enough to make it go into thermal throttling. I'm editing 8k 10-bit RAW video and my processor temps are nowhere near being a concern. Also, the Intel processor performs better than the Ryzen for video encoding.

I have managed a 12k gpu score but only once! What TGP does your model have? The Alienware m17r5 6850xt has 175w and scores much better than the legion. I am going to tweak around with mine for the next few days and try and improve it. I will keep you posted

@@MashITTech The TGP is 150W on the g15 advantage edition and it wasn't like I had to run a lot of tests for my score it was literally the first test I ran that got 11,776. Thanks for responding, I'm really interested to see if the software handling the profiles gets updated to push the card a bit harder, if using an external display would help or if the laptop comes with slow ram...🤔 Btw I said it was "almost $500" cheaper because I've seen it (very rarely) on sale down at $1200(unfortunately I bought mine for $1600 lol)

Hi, sorry if I wasnt clear enough. The 6850xt is almost on par with the 3080 and above the 3070ti in most cases. The drivers have massively improved and I have yet to have any software bugs on the games I play. And yes, there is a MUX switch so you can set it to dedicated if you prefer (I do as I only game on the machine)

@@MashITTech I have the same AMD config as this review, 6900HX and 6850MXT. Also, for clarity, my CPU temps at idle are typically in the low 40s. The temps in my original comment occur while gaming in performance mode.

@@paultinker6036 I have the Legion 7i Gen 6 intel 3070 from 2021, and I had the same issue as you after 7 months of ownership. It actually started stuttering in games with only quiet mode working fine. Lenovo onsite came and changed the heatsink (fans, vapor chamber, etc.) and it fixed the issue for 6 months. Then, warranty again. I assume it's the thermal paste that expires quickly or perhaps the vapor chamber leaks, not sure. I always use a "stand" to lift it up.

I have exactly the same problem with my configuration (6900HX / RX 6850M XT). While gaming GPU intensive games, the CPU averages around 90C and occasionally exceeds to 100C. If there is no fix for this, I have little hope it will continue to function within 24 months.

Do you plan to use the device untethered for lengthy periods of time? Or will you be plugged in most of the time? If untethered get the AMD, if plugged in most of the time get the Intel.

If you are only gaming both would serve you well. Amd would save you some money and the intel version would feel slightly snappier opening apps and is faster in productivity apps

For the same price I would choose the intel version. The intel has much better cpu performance at the expense of battery life. The only reason to choose the AMD is if you need better battery or it is cheaper like it should be

Should be around Nvidia’s RTX 3060 Ti, without the advantage of DLSS and Ray Tracing.

I have used a few curved monitors and for especially the larger ones I really like them (I have a 34 and 38” alienware) for your use case I think you will be all good and the only issue I had to get used to was using apps like photoshop where the curved screen could make judging lines etc difficult. With just a 27” though if you have the option of either curved or flat I would take the flat unless there is another good reason to choose the curved such as a better panel

@@MashITTech that's what I am thinking, the curve surely is good on big monitors, but I am not sure if its a good idea in"just" getting a big curve of 1000R, it feels like too much and it might not feel good when doing something other than gaming, also I am going with these because I am not a headphones person and I don't want to get extrenal speakers, and the screen is just below £300

If you are purely gaming save some money and get full amd, it’s amazing performance for the price. If you plan to use it for heavy cpu work and gaming get the intel. And the icue software has been removed this year so no battery killing bug like last year

FULL AMD + RYZEN 9 worths a lot less than the I9 + 3080ti But i want my laptop to be more as a allrounder as i want it for gaming but also i might start working with the laptop so maybe intel is worth it do u think lenovo 7 will last me 6-7 years at least thanks

if it is the gen 7 it won't have icue, the 7i gen 7 12th gen and the 7 gen 7 Ryzen 6000 series. Yes, it should last you years! just make sure you extend the warranty if you plan on keeping it a long time

Not these days, this 6850xt is between a 3070ti and 3080. The only area nvidia is currently better is certain productivity apps

That is correct. I did have the m17r5 with 6850 in but unfortunately I had issues with my unit and returned it before I had a chance to complete a review
