Good piece! I like using the macro adapter with 75mm lenses because of their shorter minimum focus distance compared with 90mms (not counting the f/4 macro). The old Summilux is my favorite with still subjects due to its longer focus throw while the recently discontinued f/2.4 Summarit handles faster with moving subjects due to its light weight and shorter throw. Rear LCD or Visoflex EVF mandatory. In a pinch, if I have it on hand, I’ll use a 28-35-50 Tri-Elmar (the “MATE”) in its in-between 28 & 50mm setting, which allows for quite close focusing and a focal length near 40mm. It’s not really macro territory but it gets you closer and the image quality is very nice. Again, using the rear LCD or Visoflex EVF is a must.

Hi math, I have watched all of your videos about m10r and sl2. I wonder if you'd have to choose one, which would you choose and why? Also, is the m10-r sensor better than SL2? I watched your video and seems highlight recovery is a lot better on m10r. I am asking this question because I am considering getting one of the 2. I already have a m9 and do not plan to sell it anytime soon due to its special ccd sensor and color rendering.

Does using a macro extension tube make it more difficult to focus using the rangefinder? Would you have to stick to live view or an EVF to effectively focus?

Well, as an experiment this is interesting enough. But clearly, if macro (or close-up in this case) is your goal, a leica M is the wrong tool for the job. Don't get me wrong: I love Leica M cameras. In fact they are my favorite cameras and I prefer to use them whenever I can. Back in the film days, I used to schoot macro on a Pentax 67 with extension tubes. Just for the heck of it. But, clearly, that too was the wrong tool for the job, lol. But let's be honest here.
