The SSD is soldered on the flip side of the board (side with the cpu/heatspread).

No, Chromebooks mostly use eMMC storage which is soldered to the board.

TheSurgical - The bottom shell (keyboard) is all one unit. This means you have to gut the internals and swap them into a new bottom casing.

You didn't show how to remove the hinges and metal casing around it.. to replace the video and network cables...

Chromebooks mostly use eMMC storage which is soldered to the board and cannot be upgraded.
