Ah youre the guy who left the very detailed review on best buy. Thanks love to see those super helpful. If youre ever looking to test out a new one, i recommend the omen 16 advantage (2022 model) with the rx 6650m no ones covered it yet. Was on sale for 1279 for the longest time but you could just probably return it if you wanted.

Great video and overall review. Bummer about the compromises compared to the Intel version, such as one less usb A port and only 1 SSD slot. I also really hope the 99wh battery can be installed down the line

I have legion slim 7 all amd with RTX 3060 and ryzen 7 5k series. I have per key RGB keyboard and let me tell ya if you can please spend a little extra bucks and buy per key RGB IT'S ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS.. It may look like useless thing just for show off but honestly it's so soothing to eye while working kinda like choosing different auras which work best with your mood. In terms of user's daily experience you can kinda feel deep fresh breathe of satisfaction whenever you open the lid... Lenovo definitely won my heart because of that. Also it looks so nice overall. But I mean is it even worth spending that much dollar if you can't get per key RGB these days?

@Juri V The white color doesn't have any color bleed on it. On this laptop white looks like warm white without any bleed. If you set it to low brightness it just looks like as keyboard has been highlighted instead of really bright source of colored light. That has been my experience. Also I mean you turn it all off. So if you don't like it u don't have to stick it with it.

I got the slim 7i Qhd+ with 500nit screen and 3060 with 12500. Went for the 12500h to save about a hundred dollars and used that money to buy a 1tb nvme which went in the second nvme slot. Very happy with it overall. Haven't really seen any big performance loss in games for having the 12500h. I have the 99.9 battery but don't find battery longevity to be great. Maybe three hours if watching a movie, but then I'll have the light up pretty high. I did however buy the 135w charger which is half the weight of the brick and means you can be more portable when you don't want to have a full on gaming session (the performance is still decent even with the smaller charger).

I think Shadow of the tomb at 1080p highest preset isnt a good indicator of gpu performance. Last year 3070 snd 3060 laptops with the same cpu would bench the same with it. So its a better gauge of cpu performance, not gpu. Either way pretty cool that the 6800s at 90w is hitting timespy scores of 130w 3060s, but you get more vram.

Can confirm its definitely more of a cpu benchmark, 11800h/140w 3070s and heck even 10th msi's get like 130-140 in SOTR benchmark.

Any idea how does the graphics switching works? is there a mux? is the smart graphics switch disabling the integrated in favor of the dedicated when in a game? or is it like the G15 all through the Integrated? Thanks

The 7i has Nvidia Optimus I think it's called; automatically switches between igpu and dgpu depending on application. My only real complaint with the Intel version is that the software can be buggy. Often have to do restarts to get things like Optimus to work properly. Can change between 60 Hz and 165hz with fn + r

I love mine I just got it a few days ago, I just hope they do more updates to the Graphics switching. It needs work, if the laptop isn't being taxed it'll default to the CPU's GPU for older games and for some it isn't enough but yet the graphics software won't kick in and switch to the real GPU. Forcing a few games I tried didn't work, had to trick the GPU on by running two games. I only ran into this on direct X 9.0 games so maybe it's an easy fix not sure.

Nice review! just sucks that the amd advantage had to compromise a lot, i honestly feel it's an amd gpu thing and i assume that's why they had to compromise the ssd, keyboard rgb, and usb a port, i mean it's still in its early stages, i hope the next gen will be even better!

Hey there! With mixed usage, you will see worse battery life with the Intel variant. For video playback and idling, though, they both do a good job minimizing power draw, but for actual usage the 12700H will suck back more power in the long term.

if u have the budget go for intel especially if u want to do some cpu work, these extra cores are usefull, otherwise go amd its less expensive with great performance

@@regisariswed3505 That’s the thing though, right now in the US the Intel variant ($1300 sale from Best Buy) is cheaper than the AMD variant ($1949 msrp from Best Buy). Which sucks because I really wanted AMD for longer battery life.

Is Intel version significantly hotter and louder than AMD? I have been waiting for the AMD option to come to market in a country I am at, but seeing that it only has one SSD slot, less ports and things here and there.. I'm now thinking about Intel option instead, unless it's too hot and loud due to the power draw.

Every laptop runs loud if you play games on Ultra settings + RTX on. You're literally trying to launch it to the moon or something with those demands, even on MSI GT77 Titan with RTX 3080ti..

Id say get this open box/wait for it to drop below 1699. Its definitely more powerful in most games(similar to a 130w 3060 vs 7is 100w 3060) but the cpu isnt as fast. Of course this is assuming youre okay 1tb and no other ssd slot.

@@Driaan it will definitely go below 1699 given time. You could get a 2tb ssd and buy a ssd cloner, should be simple enough but of course thats quite a bit of money on top of the laptop itself. At these prices the 7i is better but if this one goes down this maybe worth the extra hassle, it also has 8gb vram vs 6 on the 7i.

The price difference between the Intel and AMD ver is ridiculous! In the UK you can get the Intel i7 with RTX 3070 for about £1880 (with 99w battery), whilst the AMD Ryzen 9 with 6800S is about £2200. Im guessing the Intel would run very hot and be prone to throttling but still.....

The I7 + 3060 version(with 1600p display same as the AMD version) and R9 + 6800hs versions are the same prices in China. Even then the AMD platform is viewed as overpriced by the Chinese community because of the single SSD slot, worse CPU performance, and poor ray tracing. It is ridiculous that Lenovo prices the AMD platform 50% more expensive here in the US

Weird. I guess it depends on region bcoz in malaysia, amd one is definitely cheaper. S7i with i7 + rtx3070 max-q cost rm8112 (rm9159 without discount). On the other hand S7 EE cost rm7398 (rm8359 without discount). Bothvcome with 1tb ssd and 24gb ddr5 (8+16). Maybe US have some partnership going on with intel or something hence the lower price on intel one. Idk, maybe im talking out of my a** but it definitely weird

AMD's 6900HX is great, but the 12700H is indeed faster, albeit slightly more power-hungry in doing so. However, it is still better per watt >30W. So, If you need better performance away from the wall/power, where power draw typically is under that 30W threshold, get the AMD model. Otherwise, the 12700H/3060 is great, albeit the 6800S is a bit faster than the NVIDIA counterpart.

Kind of a shame this just isn't worth the $$. Chassis looks amazing. I own a Zephyrus g15 and miss having a num pad. I was super excited when they announced this but at this point in the release cycle, may as well wait for zen 4 mobile + next gen GPU's. I feel like the g15 next year will get the g14 upgades (16:10 screen + vapor chamber). Unfortunately, lenovo being lenovo, their update of this will probably have similar cost cutting measures and release 6 months after the asus.

My biggest disappointment is the 71wh battery here in the US... Last year's slim 7 with 5000 ryzen and 71wh battery was already one of the best battery life gaming laptops, so I had high hopes for the 6000 ryzen + 99.9wh combo. It's hard to image Lenovo would cheap out on battery on a $1900 laptop

lol... yup Lenovo legion S7 is def with best battery efficiency and life on market. It's really a laptop that a college student would love to have cuz it can last entire day on quiet/whisper mode with average student work load... It's exactly what I need and love... This laptop gave me the most beautiful laptop experience ever period. Have tried other gaming laptops lineups like TUF, ROG, OMEN, even ENVY X360, also Acer predator lineups.. And this is second time experiencing legion lineups. I'D SAY I LOVE LEGION SERIES AND I HOPE LENOVO KEEPS MAKING THESE LINEUPS EVEN MMOREE......

@@Gibby2021 UPDATE :- Actually re consider your choice, lenovo legion 5 pro is actually better slim 7 for long run, slim 7 heats up a lot, and the material at the back where all the ports are, those edges are kinda not great as if you even rub it against soft material, lotta bits n pieces can come off easily leaving a ugly mark. I bought legion 5 pro, although thick but not that thick it is really good compared to slim 7. I have it now for many months it runs perfect, it's beautiful etc period. For college I re recommend legion 5 pro not slim 7

Just got this...No rgb, no upgradable ram or second ssd slot. No way to turn off IO lights, but i did some gaming and it is insane. I don't know how the intel version is performing in games , but I am considering to buy also the intel version with rtx 3060 and then decide for myself and return one of them

Man... The axe to the 2nd m.2 slot is just sooo foolish. Here I am with this computer in a my cart and I'm no longer ready to pull the trigger. What a disappointment, but that thanks for covering that, as I've been hunting down the answer all day, even talking to Lenovo who has told me the AMD advantage version does have two bays.... no it does not.

Horrible. All of the AMD laptops since ACERS release of the Predator 500 have sucked pretty bad. Not sure why manufacturers are having such a problem with AMD. Can't even get a simple ethernet port or a 17 inch screen. I got that with my predator for the same price, and I doubt I would compromise at that inflated price.
