Back when I got tf2 me mum would have got me steam cards once in a while so I could buy a shit ton of keys and I would play on mine craft trade servers, then I met this guy who would get me various items that cost jack shit for 2 keys and we did it for quite a while. I had an experience similar to the hatbased economy in the 4th grade, around the same time I discovered steam. It revolved around those pencil leads that broke off when you wrote too hard on a piece of paper. Instead of throwing them away, my friends and I turned them into currency and stored them in our desks. There were two stipulations though: you couldn't buy pencils with pencil lead, and mechanical pencils' lead couldn't be used. So this economy was great for a little while, we'd pay pencil leads to eachother for favors like erasers and math questions. Ran out of lead? Oh well, back to the daily grind of sharpening then breaking pencils for the lead. After about two months (which was really long considering my age and stupidity at the time), someone came along and metaphorically fucked over our little economy. For anonymity's sake, I'll name him Albert. Now, people in our class were beginning to be apart of the movement that we made. People who absolutely loathed my friends and I before now wanted to be in on our trend that we set. Everyone had standard wooden pencils. However, Albert only had mechanical pencils. Some quick explanation: you could extract mechanical pencil lead easier than wooden pencil lead, so you could get a much better yield assuming all pencil leads were the same amount. Albert wanted to be in on our trend, but didn't have a wooden pencil. So he asked my friends and I, the creators of this brand new economy, if mechanical pencil lead could be used as currency. Us being complete fucking dumbasses said yes to this proposal, and everyone started using mechanical pencil lead, which made the grind to get pencil lead much easier. This bloated the economy, and we had no choice but to shut it down. It's sad to look at now, but back then I didn't care. tl;dr the tale of a 4th grader's pencil lead economy and its downfall

I've never made such big trades like you guys, I wasn't that lucky and smart My trick was joining a server and as I played normally, tell everyone that I was selling weapons 1 scrap each, most people were desperate to get the weapon to use it right away so they would pay this But I would also get some really oblivious traders who offered hats for these weapons, and I got a lot of really cool hats using this method without spending money Sadly I never got an unusual lol

As of Now TF2 Has not recieved an major update since 2017 3 years what! Keys are now 52 ref compared to 40 ref in 2017 I would like to read others experiences in TF2 i would enjoy reading them.

Goin back to watch earlier episodes and DAMN. It’s been 11 years since TF2 came out already?! Time flies. Anyways this was a great episode. I joined TF2 around July of 2011 (I only got steam after getting SUPER MEAT BOY!). I’ve put in 400+ hours into this game. And christ as a kid I lost SO MANY HATS to the economy. I had some damn good hats. But now I trade like barely anything. I mostly just trade crates and other useless items. I’ve been playing on and off for the past few years but after listenin to this. I’mma make sure that I get at least another 100+ hours into TF2.

Just got back into TF2 after being gone since 2013 and I'm ready to dig into this podcast.

The pyro's only job is airblasting. Any other playstyle is the player gimping their self. Running behind people and backburneringg them? Why? Just go spy and get to be invisible and instakill. Doing damage on defense or offense? Demo and solider the generalists do both better. heavy does defense better (and with the gloves, is at least much more viable on offense than pyro) You can make pyro work well in random pubs, but among players who are skillful, it's a bad time waiting to happen lol It sucks, but it's why pyro has no place in comp minus occasional uber denial.
