Definitely a '72 the '71 only had two sets of slats on the engine cover and the '73 had the curved windshield and larger tail lights. We had 3 super beetles a '71 and two '72s they were great, they had a little more trunk room than the regular beetle. Unfortunately the '71 and '72 used in VT rusted bad. The other '72 was from down south and still survives although it is just sitting now.

Hey Mustie1, Been following you for a few months now and am inspired by what you do. Love all of the VW bus posts and look forward to the future of the DC! I don't know if you've done a vid on this or not, but I'd love to know what/where you got your car lift from. Did you fab yourself? Was it hard to install? It would be cool to see it in detail if you get a chance! Anyways, keep up the great work! -Alex

What's wrong with Super Beetles? Mom bought her '72 new - her only new car. I still have it.
@firstmusic008 жыл бұрын
'71 and '72 were the only 2 years for the flat windshield, flat dash, small tail lights Super Beetles. Track-arm bushings and strut tower rot were the weak points for these years.
@mustie18 жыл бұрын
+firstmusic00 the death wobble cars
@firstmusic008 жыл бұрын
+Mustie1 Indeed. But a couple of new bushings pressed in the track-arms and you're good to go. If it's got tower rot....that's a little more involved. Yank the tank and start welding.

what do you think of Mexican Bugs? I just saw an 1983 on craigslist but I don't know if it was ever legally registered in the US. What happens if you fix it up and try to register it?
@williamdavidson90095 жыл бұрын
Might not be able to register it since it probably doesn't meet emission and safety standards. Check with your state motor vehicle department.
@lionreb5 жыл бұрын
@@williamdavidson9009 Antique cars do not need to pass emissions tests in any state of the Union. The problem may be the Mexican vin number if the car was never officially imported to the US in a legal fashion. However, with the protection of illegal aliens in our cities, would it seem right to virtually deport a car that has been here for over 30 years?
@williamdavidson90095 жыл бұрын
@@lionreb That's what I'm saying, if that year/make/model of car was never imported it is quite possible that the DOT would not allow you to register it for on road use due to it not meeting "standards". Even if it doesn't have to pass an emission test they might not register it since it originally did not meet emission standards for cars of that year. I'd do my research before I put money into a car that was not officially imported.
@lionreb5 жыл бұрын
@@williamdavidson9009 absolutely. thank you for your reply. Yes, I would be wary of getting involved with such a car without some assurance that it could be registered, whatever the reasoning might finally be. I saw one of the import forms and they do want to know if it is over 25 years old. However, as you say, they might catch one of these technicalities and make it unreasonable or unaffordable to register the car. It is not surprising that the current owner of the car claims that since the car was driven here legally and is now in the US that it will be OK. After I asked him the same question that I posed here he stopped responding.
