Both of these are excellent scopes, we discuss the pros and cons of each and get you some camera shots through the tubes. The Leupold is the 2.5-8 and the Vortex has a true 1x. I was having trouble lining them up in the camera lens but around the 5 minute mark you get clear shots of both of them. Hope this helps! For more content check out www.valhallaoutfitter.com/blog

Real test is 28 minutes after sunset! Which has better light gathering.

Difficult to say given variation in magnification. Leupold set to lowest (3) has an exit pupil of like 13 mils, and the Viper on 3 is at 8mm (all my eye can use). Viper at 1 is really pretty striking, it is almost like the picture glows. They are both stellar choices, I don't think I can tell much of a difference, so would let intended use dictate. My brush gun is typically used to 100 yards so I would opt for the Viper there. On a rifle I would regularly take to longer ranges I would use the Leupold.

@@naturestrail2296 the 2.5-8 x 36 is fixed at 150 yds. The side adjust parallax comes into play on the bigger models (eg the 4.5-14).

@@valhallaoutfitter makes sense. The 150 yd seems a little further out than I expected. Thanks for the info

@@valhallaoutfitter I recently got the 3-9x40 with duplex reticle/green center dot. Glass quality is impressive, no distortion. Best I've seen so far.

I miss the days of patriotism. Every long gun I own has a Leupold on it. I am disappointed that people who call themselves outdoorsman will take the cop out when it comes to optics. Things cost more when it's made here because we're not using slave labor to make our products. Start taking some pride in the fact that we live in the greatest country in the world. FJB!

Leupold does not say made in USA anymore, they say designed, assembled, and machined in the USA because they outsource too large of a percentage of their parts to claim made in the USA. You might want to look at US Optics "Foundation" line; they are made domestically, but the rest of US Optics have imported parts.

@Tactical and Practical That's made in America. Some of their binoculars and spotting scopes outsource glass from Japan. I don't have any problem with that. The Japanese treat their workers well. And tbh, good Japanese glass can be right up there with Swiss/German glass. I'm not trying to virtue signal. For me, I think Leupold makes the best scopes. They're incredibly lightweight, balanced, and have amazing glass! Sure, you pay more, but I believe that it's worth it. Vortex makes great scopes, and I have heard their warranty is on par with Leupold. They're too heavy for my liking.

I think Leupold I think hunting scopes. Hardly any pro shooters use it.
