Linus recites:
"And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And, lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, Fear not: for, behold, I bring you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this [shall be] a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host praising God, and saying, Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men."

My grandson 8 yrs old has autism. He is non verbal. No initation in speaking. He will repeat lyrics from songs like Dean Martin and Lionel Richie from their Christmas cds. However- my daughter wanted him to recite Luke 2. Like she learned in Christian elementary. Hes been watching Charlie Brown Christmas and learning it from Linus. Everytime my grandson recites it i get choked up.

This was released in 1965, the same year as I was born. I watch it faithfully every year, and this scene still brings to my eyes. God bless Linus and A Charlie Brown Christmas. In a world so far removed from God and the whole Woke, LGBQT poisonous crap that is rammed down our throats, I find immense peace and comfort in it. Jesus is the reason for the season.

CBS executives did not want this included in the final edit. They believed that people would object to Bible scripture in a secular format like this. However, Charles Schultz demanded they leave it in and it has become the one scene everyone remembers.

This is always my favorite part of the Charlie Brown Christmas special. Moments like this bring tears of joy to your eyes. I love and adore all Christmas specials. I love how after this the other kids realize Charlie Brown was right to select that tree all along. And then after his tree flops over the kids decorate it for him.

As an atheist, you should also know these passages appear only in the Book of Luke. Nothing close to this is even remotely mentioned in the Book of Matthew, the other of only two versions of the Jesus birth fable found in the collection of fairy tales known as the bible.

They always do this gospel reading at our mass on Christmas eve, and I look forward to it every year. I am 60 years old, and this has been my favorite Christmas special since the 60's. Linus taught the entire Peanuts gang the REAL meaning of Christmas.

You're right, Christmas has some pagan roots and Jesus probably wasn't born in the winter. But things like this that repeat God's Word can be powerful. The scripture itself is appropriate anytime of the year. The true story of St. Nicholas IS worth knowing. He grew up wealthy, but lost his parents in a local epidemic because they insisted on helping the ill despite the risk to them (hoo boy, would the left have a field day with those two "super spreaders" if they lived today). He decided to carry on their spirit of generosity, protecting girls from being trafficked into sex slavery. He smuggled portions of scripture and spent two years in prison for it. And he punched a heretic. His homegoing day is the most official start of the Christmas season, and his story deserves to be told.

Why the spotlight? Why not just start telling him? Brace yourselves for deeper meanings. And the Glory of the Lord. Did what? Shorn round about them. Like a spotlight. And it terrified them. Everything was darkness, save the Glory of the Lord. And just the Glory of the Lord God Almighty, alone will scare the Hell out of you if you encounter it while you are breathing. That is why an angel from Heaven or any beast or creature when they leave Heaven, first it has to remove the cloak of fear that wraps you instantly when you encounter it. And what removes the cloak? The spoken Word. And then his buddy casts his false security blanket off of himself as he quotes, Fear not...
