This is the 3rd anniversary of this video! I hope you've been able to "finish" it to your satisfaction, keeping in mind a layout is never really "finished" 😉 What you have here is beautiful

Thanks Dennis. I am thrilled with how the completed layout came out - kzfaq.info/get/bejne/rs-Rpa6KvLXTY6M.html

I really like your multi-level and many train tracks. To the other more realistic modeler, not me, I can only bet they think your missing a lot and have to many trains and tracks. As of see a few model train set up on KZfaq you can do what you want. If it about the trains, then run the trains, if it about the scenery go for it. For me I was so often hampered by the scenery point I lost interest in it years ago. Now I hope to have a set up in a few weeks and it will be a train running set up....

@@17designsI will, I'm looking at ideas for adding a second level on a friends existing layout.
@17designs5 жыл бұрын
@@kevinlilly7406If you are using TMCC or LEGACY keep in mind that a second level will add radio interference to the track below. By adding sheet metal underneath the upper level track that is grounded to the same outlet that powers your track you can resolve this issue. See my earlier videos for how this is done.
@markw35982 жыл бұрын
@@17designs I was WONDERING what the metal was for. I am too poor for the legacy stuff, I will just have to do with the lion chief!

Thanks for all the fantastic feedback! I'm on a mission to complete at least half the layout and unfortunately have had no time to post new videos. A lot has changed since this video first appeared. I will aim for a new video by the end of summer. Thanks again!

I see you have the fastrack fastened to the plywood. Are you using some sort of sound deadening material under the track?
@17designs4 жыл бұрын
That's correct. No. I use nothing. I am cool with the sound. Since the scenery is complete you pretty much enjoy the sound of the locomotive and the rattling of the cars.

Dang!!! The trains are not travelling at Mach 3! Which is the norm for this type of layout!!!
@blakemorris89474 жыл бұрын
What is the sheet metal underneath the track for??
@17designs4 жыл бұрын
It is grounded to the house ground on the same electrical outlet that powers the TMCC and eliminates the radio interference that could cause the train below to stop working.
@blakemorris89474 жыл бұрын
17 Designs oh I see! The ground plane effect.

@@blakemorris8947 Exactly. I join the sheet metal with aluminum foil tape.

Beautiful layout love the Dept 56 houses. How do you reach center of layout, are there access hatches?
@17designs5 жыл бұрын
Hatches would have been nice but the underside framing wouldn't allow for it. I walk over the layout like Godzilla. It's a challenge and a few hours of climbing on and off the layout feels like a complete workout!

Thanks Woody - discovered MTH buildings and my imagination went wild. A retired train employee and a few beers help with the positioning.

Very awesome. What did this take to build, $50k in labor and then $75k in labor? Excellent work.
@17designs4 жыл бұрын
Thanks! I've been collecting since 2003 so the cost of the trains has been spread out. It is not so bad if you collect a little bit at a time and you focus on sales. My labor is free!
@crookeddealer70264 жыл бұрын
Just wondering, how do you program the switches to automate the running of 4 trains of different lengths and sections of rail of different lengths simultaneously?
@17designs4 жыл бұрын
@@crookeddealer7026 I created 4 distinct lines that are interconnected that way any engine can brings it haul from the top level down to the bottom level and everything in between. Nothing is pre-programmed but I do use a hand-held TMCC controller to change switches, shunt, adjust speeds, etc. I also have a few side tracks off the main line that allows me to alternate which engine is running.
@crcc52826 жыл бұрын

WHERE IS THE LAYOUT LOCATED ??? ... BASEMENT ... GARAGE ... ATTIC SPACE ??? ... DID YOU HAVE ANY HELP IN DEVELOPING THE LAYOUT ???
@17designs5 жыл бұрын
It is a basement layout. I just laid the track on the floor and let my dog chase the train. Once I figured out the outer track I worked in 2 Wyes, a small yard and saw what was left over for upper and lower levels. I wish I had more space for sidings!!

Hi: Your track plan looks real nice. I remembered you sent me the track plan before, but I can not seem to find it on my computer. Is it possible to email me another track plan of your layout? I would appreciate it. I have about the same room as yours, 18x16. Thanks
