@@oloblish Whats your point? Unless you are competing. There isn't one. There is a difference between over all health and wellness and just bodyfat. You can 100% run low body eating as the person above and over all the only difference is water weight. Which is not and should not be a concern of average people. That is short sighted and uneducated.

I lost all of my weight on keto but recently I have decided to take the best of every diet and make my own version for me. I am still very low carb but there are so many healthy foods out there that I couldn’t have with keto so I am now implementing those into my diet along with fasting and exercising and I feel amazing! I haven’t gained any of my weight back and it’s been 2 months since dropping keto. I believe I can live this way for the long haul. 😊

From my experience, albeit N=1, is carnivore is a very good elimination diet, ketogenic diet is a good therapeutic and weight loss diet, paleo is a good maintenance diet, and the SAD will kill one early and painfully. In conclusion, we have much to learn from a variety of diet choices in conjunction with what stage of life, stage of health, and state of mind. Any one of these diets can be a hammer, then everything looks like a nail. It comes down to appreciate use of the tools, and we have many tools in our tool box. Love your work, love the fact that your claims are backed by studies. That said, it can get a bit confusing on what diet, what foods, what study fits, etc. That is where you do as good a job sousing out the finer points. Keep it up.

Awesome discussion. I'm on my third year of my journey to be "normal" for the first time in my almost 60 year life. For me, I had to do different things to get me to where I am today. I started by removing sugar and learning about different forms of "sugar" on food labels. Then, I move to eating a dirty keto, then average keto, then "puritan" keto style of eating to helped me loose 216+ lbs. More than a year ago, I realized that if I eat my asian-pacific basin foods from 300 to 350 years ago, my body seemed respond extraordinarily as the 24 inches of loose skin around my waist is almost gone, my white hair is almost gone, my skin looks younger, and I have muscles with definition for the first time in my life. I have experienced, that I needed to do different versions of keto more for my mental journey more than my weight lost, to keep me motivated and interested with noticeable results by people who has seen me and all the worries they expressed. Today, I got a compliment from an accomplished MD, knew me at 406 lbs and now is always shocked when he see me as I'm not "soft" looking as some who lost 200+ lbs. People think I'm in my early 40's when I meet them and I can now where any type of clothing for the first time in my life. Thank you, Thomas, for the 100s of hours of video you have produced as I took them all to heart and acclimated them for my family's ancestral' s food sources. I'm part Japanese, Okinawan and Hawaiian - mediterranean food style of eating would not have been possible in the middle of the Pacific for 2,500+ years Hawaiian where on these islands in the middle of the Pacific - so I found my own foods that had similar nutrients. I have found that modern version of the my ancestral foods spike my glucose level for long periods of time, but if I eat these foods the historial way - I can eat as much as I want without gaining weight!!!!!!! I love my food today, I eat more fat, more salt, more seafoods these past three (3) years flavored and cooked from my childhood - like my Great, grandmothers made for me. Mahalo 'e

My mantra - Extremes are almost never the answer. I'm not climbing on anyone else's bandwagon, though I'll look it over and kick the tires to see if any of it will be good for me and my life. In the 70's I was a little kid, crouched in a huge garden part of each summer, "cruelly forced" to put a little time in weeding, planting, and picking before playtime. How I appreciate that now! Thanks mom and dad 💕💝💕 I know what real food tastes like, how it makes me feel and where to get it. My mom got creative too, so I learned about a huge variety of fruits and vegetables. I was surrounded by small family farms, most pushed out of business by uncaring, unethical industrial farms that ruined a lot of land. I never climbed on those bandwagons - milk/butter/eggs/red meat, etc etc. I focus on good sourcing, from small, caring family farms who treat the animals and the land humanely. I focus on balance and variety. I'll always continue learning, and KZfaq videos introduced me to new things like seaweed and krill. The healthiest is humane sourcing. Ethical people with a good conscience care about what they sell you, what you put in your body. Find them and pay them directly. From there, Balance, variety, self-awareness and Individual needs should shape and dictate whatever we decide to use from the latest trends.

I’m back on Paleo minus high oxalate veggies ( thanks to Sally Norton) . She also adds lost seasonality to the equation. I’m also aware of food combining now. A “balanced diet” means nothing . Protein can be eaten with fat but not with carbs. Melons should be eaten alone not mixed with acid fruits etc etc. Keep meals simple, one type of food at a meal.

Damn good video and helped me further realize that I was being too hard on my body in the past. I have never been overweight, but have always been considered lean. It's no wonder that the two times in my life that I've consistently done months of strict 18:6 every day, black coffee every morning with lots of hard, fasted training several hours before breaking my fast, made a bad digestive issue that I had healed over 14 years ago come screaming back. My sleep was also horrible and it's no wonder because my cortisol levels were probably through the roof. I've since learned my lesson and am perfectly happy doing one 24-36 hour fast a week. Thanks for making this video which further clarified all of this for me!

So one thing that’s interesting is that if you think of Paleo fruit growing wild, it was waaay less sweet than our modern cultivated varieties that we have now- and the ones that were very sweet, like figs or dates let’s say, they certainly don’t stay that way for long- and you were sharing them with your whole tribe for that week or whatever. Just a thought- the fruit would be pretty minimal and you’d be burning calories by picking them!

I eat at high noon, and by the time I go to bed, I'm still not hungry; I am never hungry in the morning for "breakfast", so I wind up eating at high noon again. It was 3 years ago when I started to try fasting I was in the middle of menopause and it was horrible trying just to get to 12 hours, but I did not stop and tried to get to 16 hours….. it just did not work then, because when I could eat I was eating like crazy!! So I stopped, one year later I tried again with a different approach, I took care of my sleeping hours first, I started working out 6 days a week and then I started with IF little by little, this time it did work, so like Thomas was saying it’s important to take care of having a good night sleep first 🙌

About 5 years ago I started paleo. Lost 35 lbs, and felt better. Then went Keto. I then cycle around; sometimes I want some beans in my chili, right? A nice glutne-free pizza. Sometimes rice - So I do some carbs about twice a month. I like to think of it as Ancestral eating - humans will eat whatever they get their hands on, so I will keep a little variety. I've been resistance training for over a year. Thinking about fasting but haven't yet. I think you need to add and try things, mix it up a little just follow some hard rules. Mine are no pasta, no sugars, no seed oils. no processed food, no grains other than white rice.

I would think this is a good thing. If we look at indigenous people's diets, they were incredibly varied. Acorns, cattails, wild greens and mushrooms, lichens, pine, wild rice, bitterroot, camas, seaweed, fish, meats, fowl, squashes.... There was a lot of variety and it was based on seasonal and local availability, and whatever could be traded. Maize was a staple for the hopi. I like that you brought up modern "seasonal" vs traditional. I feel that so much of our current food problems surrounding fruit and veg are there because our foods aren't ripe. They are picked unripe and ripened off the vine/tree/plant (which in my mind has an effect on available nutrition). For those of us with the privilege of being able to get to a farmer's market, I feel THAT would be a good marker as to how to eat seasonally for that area and also get the most nutritious foods. I don't think even frozen or canned foods, which are supposed to be picked at peak ripeness, are entirely trustworthy because it makes more sense to ensure MOST of the crop is ripe, without being concerned about ALL.

As for eating fruit in season, if humans came from Africa, fruits pretty much always in season if there's no winter. And as for eating plants I think it is good to look at our digestion vs herbivores and they have better ability or extra organs for detoxifying plants, except for fruit which has less antinutrients which is why it tastes good to us as apposed to vegetables or plain crunchy seeds

I love it when you start talking about the new research popping out about reducing blood sugar, as a diabetic, I emphasize keto, however I can add berries to my diet without problem. The potatoes and white bread blow my mind what you have talked about and reducing blood sugar, wow! Freezing, toasting microwaving... You have no idea how I'd enjoy potatoes again. White bread! While not necessarily keto, I just need to reduce my carbs enough to make my blood sugar happy. I'm not familiar with Paleo at all... 🤦 I'm so out of the loop... And, great advice about adding fiber in your videos. I think I'd really love a shake, for instance- that is very low carb, the ones I have seen just have too many, and my blood sugar does better on a low to no carb diet. While I know you're not necessarily the diabetic channel, you still have great advice for diabetics, and interesting research conclusions.

Read the old ZoneDiet books, watch some old Dr. Barry Sears videos. It is based on Paleo principles (as far as macros anyway). Balance each meal with about 20-30grams of protein with about 1.25 that amount of complex carbs (in other words 1:1.25 protein to carbs). Make sure you get about 10-15 grams of both fat and fiber in each meal. Wear a Continuous Glucose Monitor if you can to see if this balances your blood sugar, reduce ratio of carb to protein if not. My ancestors are a lot of dairy, it agrees with me... 🤣

The point is, not whether we are still seasonal in our MODERN life, it's whether we should revert to season only as we did for 2 million years.

I agree that paleo 2.0 is on it's way. I think that is good as far as a lot of smart people explain in a lot of detail why various practices are better than others it is wise to listen. I don't think we should use the phrase "follow the science" to regiment things. Science is actually a process that depends upon experimentation and questioning the existing "science" as it proves or improves the practices. We need to realize that science is a living process and evolves over time it is not forever fixed and rigid. Thomas, thank you for what you do. I don't think you are always right (no one is) but you have good informative content, you present it well, you are prolific as heck and I look forward, nearly everyday, to see what you have to say.

Whats your thoughts, on breaking fasts with Oats for example, flax and hemp seeds. Few walnuts, blue berries, and a Banana w pb. Real talk, I eat this 2+ times a week after fasting 14-16 hrs. Sometimes just a banana and a protein shake... Thoughts?

Btw! Just finished another 48 hr fast and followed your advice on how to break a fast and feel so much better!! I piggy back by doing 16/8 starting after my 1 meal before 7pm, and...mmmmm ...I don't like it. Ugh, but Im going to try having my coffee black. I usually have biotrust mct8 in my coffee.. wish I wasn't so ocd...and could wait but I have coffee with my husband and Jesus every morning. OLD HABITS are hard to break. 🤣
