Spontaneous reaction to the songs / musical pieces "Day 3 - Pain" and "Day 4 - Mystery" from the album "Ayreon - The Human Equation"" in two versions (Lyrics video and live video ). The whole album will be covered : 1 hour and 40 minutes of music, divided in block of 10-13 minutes. Ten videos / ten weeks in the music of this exceptional artist.
According to Wikipedia, "Ayreon is a musical project by Dutch songwriter, singer, musician and record producer Arjen Anthony Lucassen. Ayreon's music is described as progressive rock, progressive metal and power metal sometimes combined with genres such as folk, electronica, experimental and classical music. The majority of Ayreon's albums are dubbed "rock operas" (or "metal operas") because the albums contain complex storylines featuring a host of characters, usually with each one being represented by a unique vocalist."

Hello sir - I just wanted to let you know how much I appreciate these reaction videos. There are quite a few Ayreon reaction videos online; not that many for The Human Equation though, and even fewer of them actually engage with the whole album as a cohesive piece of art, breaking down the lyrical content the way you do. And what a splendid job you do - it's very clear that you are a well-read and knowledgeable man, which is no doubt why I enjoy your musical analysis so much. Plus, your voice is extremely pleasant to listen to, you could narrate Ikea manuals and I would eagerly listen to them :D Keep up the amazing job, my friend, I look forward to your future uploads!

I really love that more people are reacting to Arjen Lucassen's works because he and his collaborators are so great, musically and as persons, that they deserve to have more and more exposure. The world needs to listen to great music. We are surrounded by so many bad vibrations that we need something good to escape from that bad influences. I've found so many beautiful people that are really amazing artists thanks to Arien's projects and they definitely must be known by the entire world. Thank you for doing these reactions and analyses that contribute to promoting all these marvelous artists.

Arjen seems to be a complete artist. I appreciate that at the highest level. And I understand why signers and musicians want to be part of these projects...

My personal interpretation of the "travelled lie" would be the lie itself being like a well-worn path; that 'Me' tells himself that his is "a sane mind", that he is a reasonable person, and not someone consumed by pain and rage. Similarly I think that "pain leaves the rage inside" may be about the trauma and suffering scouring away everything BUT his frustrations and anger; his internal perspective consisting largely of Agony and Rage at the time. Or alternatively/additionally that past trauma and suffering is lingering and unresolved (that such pain leaves scars even after it passes), and all it takes is a trigger (like this incident) to bring it surging and boiling over. That any self-awareness, or sense from his other aspects (like Reason or Love), falls by the wayside as though hidden when he gets like this. (Another element may be that the pain and rage is masking something deeper; that it's the truth of both external events and internal identity that's hidden away by this storm of physical and/or emotional hurt.) 'The Human Equation' feels so layered with implication and insinuation that it's ripe for a lot of puzzling through the exact details of what happened and what is really going on.

I love your reaction and your obvious love for excellent music. Like an other reactor mentioned: the world of Ayreon is an extremely happy positive vibe. The singers and musicians playing for him are intensely enjoying themselves and share that with the audience. No wonder the genius Arjen is able to attract so many top vocalists from all across the globe. Everyone loves working with him and are having a blast. I visited a live performance from Ayreon a couple of weeks ago. Amazing to see that all these professionals work together to produce the absolute Pinnacle of beauty. Without the tendency: " look at me, look at me". The cooperation is important and giving everyone the opportunity to perform, resulting in an epic peace of beauty and art. When you dive into the rabbit Hole of the participants you will discover a world of happiness, beauty, friendliness, humbleness mixed with greatness. I am so thankful I was born in this time to be able to enjoy these talents. Via this I discovered Floor Jansen, Simone Simons, Anneke van Giersbergen, Nightwish, the Gentle Storm, Northward etc etc etc. The funny thing is: all these people remain themselves, act normal, humble even, share humor, could be excellent close friends because they are just nice people. And that is real greatness! World famous and at the same time they could be your very nice neighbour. I sincerely love this scene 🤘

I'm discovering Ayreon with you! What a genius Arjen is :)! Also, i'd like to make a suggestion. I dont know if you have an idea about how to continue your musical journey after Ayreon, but I'd love it if you could analyze Tuomas' solo album, or his other band Auri (with his wife Johanna and Troy). Cheers!

Arjen keeps control of all his projects. So everything you see on the Live is also his vision. He sings the friend part on the recording, but has someone else do the friend part on stage. He was disappointed in the filming quality, so you will see his next Live Concerts - 'Ayreon Universe' and 'The Electric Castle and Other Tales' have fantastic quality and sound, as well as amazing performances. You will probably like 'The Electric Castle', as Arjen again looks into emotions, but also looks at how different times and cultures effect our views and reactions. The story is that characters are chosen from different times, put through a series of tests by another Life Form, to see how they react - In a Castle Deep in Space, so good.

Thx for the reaction! Being a keyboard player I really love Arjen's synth tones and textures. He uses a lot of old analog gear from 70-80s: moogs, prophets, hammonds. They all sound so prog, thick and alive. And he also had Wakeman and Emerson as guest players in some of his works, you can't get more prog than that :-)

Great, as usual! I chime in just to make a suggestion for a future LM: the album "Be" by Pain of Salvation. In my personal musical history it follows directly The Human Equation, and it's the one that make me question my faith for the first time, and also the beginning of a still ongoing path to discover myself

The thing about Be is that the entire concept of God in the album is that it is a being of curiosity rather than love. If God was only curious to learn and explore its own existence then Be makes a lot of sense. However, as the God of the Torah and the Bible is a God of love, the entire concept of the album cannot be applied to religion.

Kudos to you (and especially your friend(s)) for taking this album on! Most may have started with Universe (super fantastic as well - so it Electric Catle too) Go, my friend, Go Song four: Kansas, Krafwerk? Procol Harum? anyone? Anyhow, wonderful! ;o) Uhm! Genesis, Yes, Ruth and Styx? Okay, why not! Oh, btw, Arjen is just an amateur multi-instrumentalist - he just plays a bit of this, and a bit of that - not really good at anything! According to him - I, WannaBeAnAmateurLikeArjen Oh, oh, oh, Devin Townsend - worth to be reacted (especially when he, as Arjen, collaborate with Anneke Van Giersbergen - Guylain, so sorry, you don't have enough time to react - OR, we just have to be patient - I'm not :.)) Day Four: wonderful Marcela - and Joost (LOL) Arjen and Floor's friend, the producer, Mr. Heary Metal in the Netherland, and Epica's producer. Yes, he was a co-member in After Forever with Floor and Mark

Such a GREAT "brochette" of artist. A multiinstrumentist - that I am - alway feel humble in front of geniuses of one instruments. By I tell you : such a great composer/lyriscist and overall artist is even rarer!!! And all GREAT musicians would make space to be part of a great project. And, clearly, this is one.

I loved Arjen Lucassen as "Friend" on the Album. This guy isn't just a genius as a songwriter, he also has an amazing voice with some very heavy 70s vibes. It is a little sad, that he didn't sing this part in the live video again, but of course he has a lot to do with playing guitar on stage 😄
