On this training video you will see the LNG carrier Cargo Manifolds Draining and Purging Procedures to be followed on board LNG carriers while proceeding to load or to discharge Liquified Natural Gas.
Prior each port call a training is conducted in order to refresh the knowledge of the Officers and Crew on board the ship and to be well prepared for this operation.
On this episode we also talk about the following items which can be found on seperate episodes of which I have created:
ESD Valves
• How does the emergency...
Dry powder System
• How Does The Main Dry ...
Water Spray System
• How does the Fixed Wat...
Cargo Tanks Pressure Relief System
• The Cargo Tanks Safety...
Cargo Manifolds How do we load liquified natural gas on to our ship and what are the cargo manifolds liquid or vapor

That's incredibly insightful capt. Wishinh i could go to LNG oneday. I'm currently on LPG fully refrigerated carrier 🙌. May i ask you to make video about what do third mate do on cargo ops(loading and unloading)on LNG capt? Since maybe there are some differences procedure that maybe third officer doing compare to LPG carrier. Thanks in advance 🙏

Hello and thank you for your message. Will check on this and revert.I would suggest you also to review your companies cargo procedures manual which explains what are your duties during these operations.

@@nickthesailorman360 alright capt, but i wanna know about the possibility "differences" Between lpg and lng. Is it possible for LPG officer onboard LNG carrier capt? Do your company accept asian officer, Indonesian especially? Thank you for your response capt 🙏

@@iwanfaesal5890 Depending in the company's system, in LNG ship the 3rd Officer is in the CCR doing ballasting/deballasting operation, doing hourly reading, recording and computation of cargo qtty loaded/discharged, rate, qtty loaded/discharged, time to ramp down which is normally communicated hourly to the terminal, monitoring mooring tension, monitoring cargo and other critical alarms and supervising deck watch keepers. He is usually in the CCR either with the Chief Officer or the Gas Engineer. In this regard there is a company standard form for hourly record keeping. In some Japanese ships during normal operation the 3/O is in the CCR with an AB only (the C/O & G/E are only called an 1-2 hrs before Rate down or anytime needed). The duty officer is remotely operating the cargo filling/discharge valves for staggering, monitoring the cargo operation and doing hourly record keeping while the AB is doing ballasting/deballasting operation under the supervision of the OOW. The main difference with a Fully ref LPG you are onboard is that your loading rate is lower (LNG loads at an average of 11,000 m3/hr and as high as 14,000 m3/hr) therefore ballasting/deballasting operation should be faster. Fully ref LPG can be more complicated since you sometimes mixed cargo while loading or load warm cargo. During discharging you don't normally receive vapour from shore therefore you use LPG vapourizer or sometimes cargo booster pump and cargo heater to discharge towards warm shore tank with high back pressure. In most Fully ref LPG ships you need to go on deck to adjust the filling valves for staggering or operate the leveling valve if needed to equalize the cargo since you have centerline bulkhead and 2 filling valves compared to only 1 in LNG which make it easier for the tank to fill. There are plenty of LPG experienced officers who transferred to LNG and the opportunity is getting better due to massive new building and officer shortage. In your case you have already a gas experience and gas endorsement which will make it much easier. MISC Berhad, Bergesen and MOL might be accepting Indonesian officers. Hope I have answered some of your concern.

@@Jojo-lh7lc what an awesome and detail answer. Thousands of thanks to you jojo. And yes, you're right on what you said about fully refrigerated LPG. So from your answer, the duty of 3o on LPG and LNG actually not too different. I'm hoping that i can onboard LNGC oneday. By the way, where r u from jojo? Are you on LNGC now?

Good Day Captain, first of all I would like to thank you for your time on sharing such important subjects we have on a LNG Carrier. It is super helpful for people with not so much sea experience, but mainly in the office behind screens on a daily basis following these operations. If I can suggest one thing on your videos, although I understand it might not be possible due to external noises, is to have a clear voice from the officers giving explanation. Basically on this video, I clearly understand if you summarize, but couldnt understand the CO and CE explanation. I wish you all the very best and do hope you keep educating us with these fantastic videos. Raphael

Nice video Captain, however I don’t fully agree on your liquid free procedure. I believe, that you have to monitor pressure on the manifold, and once pressure stops building up - you can consider it liquid free. Following by purging, etc.

Hello Hoan, Unfortunatelly I am not able to perform such a video because my vessel is not engaged on STS.I have done in the past, and it is very difficult to remove the LNG from those flexible hoses and to have them safe for disconnection. It takes many hours of purging utilizing the both vessels nitrogen in order to make them safe for discnonnection. One thing to remember is that purge for at least 2-3 hours prior disconnection and dilluge sea water on the hoses for the lng to evaporate.

looks like the cargo is too harmful for the metal (hull) so the water curtain will prevent it but I need also an extra explanation about this. for example it will evaporate immediately so why do we need it? also as I am thinking now if its not evaporated immediately then it will when it will touch the water is that correct Captain?

A few years ago I was in the LNG business and I had a ship that I would sail around the world and pull into ports and just download absolutely nothing and get paid handsomely for it. I literally would leave port, do a day in the ocean, come back to the same port and do it all over again. I eventually stopped but not before making a fortune. Hilarious.
