Later on in the episode Leo and President Bartlet are talking and say one of my favorite lines. Leo: "He thinks I'm the Butler." Bartlet: "For the first couple of weeks, so did I."

I remember that episode. And his solution to the problem between India and Pakistan was for the USA to "buy them off." USA had to give them MONEY to bribe the countries not to go to war. That is pure left-wing, West-Wing, Aaron Sorkin belief system. Just throw money at the problem and kick the can down the road.

Lord John was fantastic. He had a bit of Columbo in him. He would shuffle about and sometimes look disheveled, but then at the critical moment he was say something so sober and insightful that it would shock you.

Lord Marburry's proper title: The Most Honorable John Marburry, 12th Marquess of Needham and Dolby, Earl of Croy, Baronet of Brycey, former Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the United States from the Court of St. James's.

Hee! Easily my favorite recurring character in TWW of all time. Lord John Marbury rules! Probably my two favorite lines from this clip: Leo [sotto voice]: "Oh God, help me." Marbury: "It's 'Your Lordship', in fact, but it couldn't possibly make the least difference." Love it!!

A truly wonderful talent. I pray Roger Rees found all the ways to fulfill all his hopes and dreams as both a professional actor and mere mortal, and during the worst of times when the lights would go dark, and only he could accept and make peace with. I remember him best from his stand-out moments on West Wing, among others. He had the special gift of making the lens his tool for all our own to enjoy, and repeatedly go back to. Rest in Peace, Roger Rees.

Jed Bartlet - Lord Marburry's friendship echoes real-life friendships between past leaders of US and UK - between Ronald Reagan & Margaret Thatcher, George W Bush and Tony Blair, etc. It reminds us all about the 'special relationship' between the two nations as well.

He should have been addressed as Lord Needham, as the title comes from the estate, not his surname. Also, his Marquess title would outrank his Earldom.
