I was born in 1964 in Eastern Kentucky, just 40 miles from Butcher Hollow. My mother was the youngest of 12 siblings (9 girls and 3 boys) and this was her life as well, just like Loretta Lynn's life. My Grandfather also worked for the Van Lear coal mine and died of black lung before I was born. It was a hard life, but the grit & resolve of the folks in Appalachia is something of legends. They're the members of an amazing culture, like nowhere else you'll ever find.

Loretta Lynn was later an R&B singer for only once when she did “Is This Love, Must Be Love” featuring Frankie Bleu, and it was from the soundtrack to “The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh”. The song was produced and arranged by the legendary Thom Bell who did the Delfonics, the Stylistics, The Spinners and countless others.

This song is the musical true story of her childhood. She is an old school hillbilly from eastern Kentucky who grew up dirt poor and made it to stardom. A true rags to riches story or a true Cinderella story. She now has a mansion and a huge estate not too far from Nashville but spends most of her time hanging out in her cabin she had built on her estate that is a replica of the cabin she grew up in. This woman knows what hard times and hard work is. At 89 years old is still very down to earth and humble. She never went "hollywood".

@jefflast9489

@@cnatview It's not "invisible". It's a palpable quality, a.depth of emotion that communicates the raw emotion of the singer's experience. The kids today don't make music, they remix what their elders created. It's soulless, clinically perfected sonic waves, but it's not music. Is there any pop culture singer today who can make your heart ache and bring tears to your eyes?

Loretta wrote songs about her life, and wrote songs from a womans point of view about men and spoke her truth. She then had 5 or so songs (I think more) BANNED from the radio, lol. I listened to mom's country music as a kid...and I remember "One's On The Way". And Loretta didn't put up with women after her man...."You Ain't Woman Enough" and "Fist City", lol. Singing to a woman flirting with her husband and Loretta would take her to "fist city". Epic! Not long before Loretta died, and she had a replica of her childhood home built...she sat on the porch of it in a big ole dress she would wear, and did a spoken word version of 'Coal Miners Daughter". It's worth a watch, her toward the end of her life, her alone, and just speaking the words of the song.

Great song. Did you know that Loretta Lynn sang a duet with Frankie Bleu with a beautiful soulful ballad “Is This Love, Must Be Love”. That song was from the soundtrack to an forgotten basketball film “The Fish That Saved Pittsburgh” from 1979. So that’s why Loretta Lynn went from a successful country artist to an R&B singer, but that didn’t last that long. She went back to do country music, and she did.

Loretta Lynn is 90 now, still writing songs, and released her 26th solo album STILL WOMAN ENOUGH, featuring this song as a recitation, where she tells the story like a poem instead of singing it. The album peaked at #9 on Billboard US Country chart and #3 on Billboard UK Country chart. A 60 year career with no signs of stopping, even at 90 years old.

Now you should watch the movie "Coal Miners Daughter" released in 1980 starring Sissy Spacek and Tommy Lee Jones. Sissy Spacek won an Academy Award and a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress and the movie also a Golden Globe Award for Best Motion Picture - Musical or Comedy. It's the true story of country music singer Loretta Lynn from her early teen years in a poor family and getting married at 15 (and having 4 kids by the age of 19) to her rise as one of the most influential country musicians.
