Thanks Paul... I have just checked the parts diagram and sure enough, there should be a plate and a gasket behind the clutch master. I will probably have to fabricate one as it definitely was not there when I removed it and I am risking fatigue damage if it is left off. It looks like someone has attempted this job on my car already and made a bit of a hash of it. Once again, thanks for your advice!

I just checked again Paul... The plate was glued to the bulkhead so all good... I have now managed to attach the cable without dismantling anything, but it is quite tricky.
