I saw Fred Dryer with my mom in a Ralph's supermarket in LA during the time he had his series Hunter. He definitely had charisma and magnetism that really impressed my mom, but what l recall most is his brief discussion about his favorite flavors of ice cream: a charming, personable man.

Georg Stanford Brown, who directed this episode (2:08), and Tyne Daly (9:23) were married to each other from 1966 to 1990. Brown was one of the stars of ABC's "The Rookies," which ran from 1972 until 1976.

And, at around this same time, Tyne Daly herself was only a few months from starting her run as NYPD Detective Mary Beth Lacey on "Cagney & Lacey".

The character that Fred Williamson portrays in this episode is based on Jack Tatum, a former all-pro safety for the Oakland Raiders who delivered a hit on New England WR Darryl Stingley that permanently paralyzed Stingley. The show addressed the wanton violence that was controversial at that time in the NFL.

Oh yes, remember watching him ( the Assassin ), and his partner in crime Lester ( the Molester ) Hayes. Raider defense back then.

This episode was done 35-40 years ago and was almost prophetic about the issues the NFL has now with head injuries.

Head injuries were not a new thing in the 1970s-early-1980s. It was an old news issue even then, hardly "prophetic".

This story is obviously based on the '78 L.A. Raider's exhibition game vs. the New England Patriots, in which the hard-hitting Jack Tatum slammed into Darryl Stingley with his helmet while the receiver was running a crossing pattern. The blow severed Stingley's fourth and fifth vertebrae, leaving the receiver paralyzed from the neck down.

That's right. Williamson's character was based on Tatum and the injured player in this episode is based on Darryl Stingley.

@@MrMenefrego1 It wasn't news to Chrysler since Imperials were given an "A" for the second digit of the VIN to denote Imperial division. Chrysler division models were given a "C".

WTF? That's the ending? Oh right, we are supposed to juxtapose the Daly part about evoking emotions with the inner conflict of emotion that becomes Joes dilemma in the end ... Almost forgot.

I was in charge of perpaairng tutors for athletes and their academic "career" All girl's sports, baseball players, track, swimmer, etc study and graduate. Football and basketball players are just used by the university. It is even worse at Bama.

You were "in charge of perpaairng tutors for athletes and their academic "career" " And your profound misuse of the English language removes all the mystery as to why those poor kids failed under your so-called "tutelage"!
