This particular movie was actually a true story, this was back in the time period when families would hide children if they felt they were shameful, like getting pregnant out of wedlock, this was also during a time when child services didn't exist yet, and when barbaric practices were taking place in the mental health industry that was in it's infancy. The asylums would most often be the place where children like these or their unwed mothers would be sent. Asylums would also sometimes receive grandparents so that the kids could take their estates away from them. Thankfully this kind of thing doesn't go on en masse like it used to.

Winn was an interesting character. On one hand, she genuinely cared for the Bajoran people. On the other, she desperately wanted to be Space Jesus, but Sisko beat her to the punch without even trying. This is why pride and jealousy are considered sins. Anger is a path to the darkside.

Winn was a great embodiment of corrupt religious officials obsessed with power. In the earlier seasons she reminded me of European figures in the Middle Ages who sought (and often gained) influence over both church and state.

Winn was a natural tyrant. She was always evil but justified her evil with religion. She committed terrorism just to get rid of her enemy planting a bomb on the station. 🤭 She lusted for power and would be anything to get it. She’d even throw away her beliefs and worship the devil just to keep a title. She was pure evil.

Mate, she was a religious zealot even before she joined a cult. Encouraged a bajoran security officer, Neela, to assassinate her rival vedek after bombing a school on DS9. She turns from the Prophets purely because she's jealous of Sisko and wants religious power over him, but still doesn't have it after being elected as kai. She murdered Solbor, and was apparently perfectly fine with the Pah-wraiths wiping out any who opposed them. Also perfectly okay with working alongside a madman like Dukat, even sharing a bed with him. There are two good things I can say about Winn. She did suffer during the occupation for staying true to her beliefs and helping others survive the cardassians. She also at least tried to help in the final minute of her life, but a little too late considering she caused it to begin with. Yeah, evil is a word I'd use, at least following the occupation. She gained power and wanted more, refused to lose it, and at others' expense.
