Good video. In an earlier video you fitted a high level stop light. Someone asked about the screws to secure the light. Looks like the screws from the 2005 on are the same!

The lower steering shroud from 2006 no longer has the large moulded plastic oval holding the metal plate and requires a longer screw and plastic spacer to attach to the column. This is the only shroud available as a genuine item and the aftermarket suppliers have followed suit.

to 4:05 - you can throw away the star washer and screw an normal nut onto the plastic pin instead. Not too tight!

I am in exactly the same situation now. My after market switch has just failed and I bought a Lucas OEM replacement. It feels much better. BTW I have fitted relays on the headlamp circuits which is an essential mod IMO.

I honestly think the Lucas ones are Chinese and boxed in the UK - there were some Lucas markings on the metal frame on mine but not on the BP ones, and I seem to recall the light switch was exactly the same I wonder if the Lucas one are first quality and BP are the second quality? Hmmm. It is a gamble as you never know what you are going to get with different batches The captive nuts would turn or pull out in the early versions of the shroud = glad to see after 30 years LR got round to sort it out - must have been a rush job! Obstructed view!!? What, of the bonnet? Come to Quebec! No annual MoT, No emissions ( mind you, the cars are wrecks!) When Curtis comes by I will do a walk around his pick up! Changing the steering column cover screws from machine to plain screw is a good thing because the captive nut eventually no longer becomes captive to the plastic whilst "unscrewing" and just spins around inside the plastic housing. I guess the screw eventually corrodes to the captive nut. Very, very frustrating. Taking the covers off can be a tough job as is without any added torment.

If you look at 4:21 on the video, you can see that the older column shroud has a hole for the choke cable which they carried on with a blanking plug until 2005.

My indicators don’t cancel one way sometimes and my steering wheel is brand new oem so I’m guessing my unit needs replacing as well? 🤔

Speaking about cheap parts, I brought a Britpart Oil filter for the Wife's 2.4 TDCi 90 and the bloody "O" ring lasted 7weeks then oil all over the drive (light grey paving bricks). One OEM oil filter kit later no more oil leak. The difference between the 2 "O" rings was like Mike had with his door seal issue. So from now on, any part that has a rubber component, don't buy Britpart.

Looking at the lower shroud that has an additional bracket. Do you know what this is for? I have a blanking plug in that hole. Cruise control stalk maybe?

Mind you it was not a 2019 make maybe your batch was better
