Wow, the way this video took off suddenly. I really appreciate the support you guys are showing! For more information on the truck, see the description as well as Neil’s playlist! As of 06/13/2023, oil pressure is still over 30 PSI hot. I also noticed that a cold start lifter tick he had went away after a few days. This engine is a sludge mess for sure. Yeah, Hyundai motors are notorious for failures. Definitely keep that oil clean and a good filter will keep any metallic glitter from tearing anything else up.

I learned something! I never knew that gauge was for oil pressure 😮 I thought it was for oil temperature 😅
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
It can tell you if your oil is warm. As your truck warms up, your engine oil thins out. A lot of trucks, especially new ones have fake oil pressure gauges that either sit in the middle or show none at all.
@fayjones9150 Жыл бұрын
My old f150 had the gauge. This 2008 Honda Ridgeline doesn’t. Trust me I went looking 👀. Just has H and C with some lines.

I remember when someone told me that as a teenager when Brenda's 4.3 had low oil pressure. And I believed them. Biggest mistake. The 4.3 is not as strong as a 350. From personal experience. I'm not taking the chance. My daily, Big Bertha just gets oil. And she's at 220k. 2v 4.6 Modular. Runs like a champ.

It's an extreme save additive. My guess is that your Geo Merta was already too far gone. Or it has a really low oil capacity and you added too much. Which would stop it from picking up oil due to being too thick. You substitute a certain amount. For the 4.3, one quart of Lucas with 3.5 quarts of oil is safe. My truck is running strong with Lucas. As long as your oil pressure looks like it does here, you'll be good. Unless something is already making contact in the motor and it's too quiet to notice yet. Good luck! Let me know. Those Astro Vans are awesome little tanks. Love them.

It's actually reading restiance to flow not improving your Oil volume lol but yes it looks good on the Guage.
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
I wasn’t trying to improve oil volume. Why would I do that? I wanted to stop the oil from flowing so fast through the excessive bearing clearance. And it worked. I did noticed that a lifter tick I had went away. So there’s that. It did what I wanted it to. Make an engine last longer. I need this truck to haul stuff and potentially tow Brenda to the track one day. That 4.3 will be screaming but the NV3500 will get it there and back in case I break the drivetrain in Brenda.
@williambrown33889 ай бұрын
You are correct, lower pressure equals better flow unless your pump is totally shot. But that said, Lucas does make good quality products. I would say their oil stabilizer is equal to or maybe better than STP oil additive. STP or Lucas can increase oil film strength and help lessen wear but you still need good overall flow. I worked on steam turbines and just for turning by hand we used STP poured into the top of the babbit bearings. As we slow rotated them.

Use a dixie cup when removing the filter to keep it from making a mess or pole a hole in the bottom with a screwdriver to drain it.
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
For whatever reason, Neil didn't make a mess the first time I changed the oil. That time, it went literally right on the phone. I usually just keep the drain pan underneath. The Dixie cup idea is great though. Definitely a good one.
@georgegravette113211 ай бұрын
I've used that stuff, as well as the full synthetic, which is not as thick. My Camaro Z-28's oil pressure was not only low, but the needle would jump all over the place at low RPM. The Lucas raised the pressure, and stabilized it. One thing, though: I would not pour the entire bottle in at once, especially before the regular oil. The stuff's very thick. Not sure how quickly it would mix with regular oil in a running engine, but I wouldn't want it to settle anywhere, like the pickup tube, before it got properly mixed.
@RodknockRhett11 ай бұрын
I prefilled the oil filter. The 3 and a half quarts of 5w-30 definitely went into the crankcase. It’s kind of like dish soap with water running over it. As soon as the oil hits the Lucas, it washes past it but eventually brings it down with it. If the oil wasn’t getting through, the entire valve train on that side would fill up like a pool. Take your valve cover off and you’ll see where all that oil can flow to get to the crank case. It’s nearly ready to be changed. Still holding 30 PSI hot with almost 3k on this change. Running great! I’m doing an update video when I change it. Thank you for watching!

I happened to notice that your engine had over two hundred seventy thousand miles on it if you want your oil pressure to get better you might want to start using thicker oil, 5 weight oil is what was recommended from factory but that was for it when it was brand new, you should be using thicker oil every hundred thousand miles and Lucas oil
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
That's overkill. Yes, thicker oil will probably raise the pressure. But it's still not within spec. This engine definitely has excessive bearing clearance. Lack of maintenance is to blame, not the mileage. You can tell when I drained the oil. 500 mile oil should never look like that. Lucas alone is enough to bring the pressure back up on worn engines, if anything significantly thicker is needed, the engine is on borrowed time regardless. If it's an LS (gen III/IV SBC) based engine, the o ring will cause low oil pressure as well. The 4.3 doesn't have an o ring.
@toodjackson443811 ай бұрын
@@RodknockRhett it got over 200.000 miles nothing is a spec
I put to much oil in my engine and i f up the thermostat
@RodknockRhett Жыл бұрын
I'm not sure how putting too much oil in would cause your thermostat to fail. Unless coolant and oil are mixing. Which, if they are, you got deeper problems. And soon to be, serious problems if ignored. Especially if you have "dexkill" coolant.

Good way for me to learn how to do a rebuild. The truck has been pretty reliable every time I drive it.

@martinfarrell577811 ай бұрын
No it does not....have tried it and difference.
@RodknockRhett11 ай бұрын
What did you try it with? And what were the symptoms? Oil pressure being low at idle when hot usually means you have excessive bearing clearance. This will "fix" your oil pressure. If you have something like a pickup tube issue preventing the pump from actually pumping oil, it will not change a thing. Symptoms of a problem with the oil pickup include low oil pressure right off the bat regardless of temperature and weak overall pressure throughout the RPM range. If your oil pressure does not rise with RPM, you have a pickup issue. Good luck and let me know.

First off, if you're going to comment on a video that is in English, at least understand the language. Second off, I am by no means sponsored. As I stated right off the bat. Seriously? A channel with barely 100 subs isn't getting a sponsorship. I simply have a high mileage POS Silverado that had low oil pressure. I'm not rebuilding the motor. Oil pressure is still holding above 30 PSI hot at idle. The truck is doing the job I'm asking it to do. For how cheap Lucas is, it's hardly increased the cost of the oil change. So there's that.
@charlesdodge876810 ай бұрын
Having a hard time believing this. Heck put 50w oil in ❓❓❓❓
@RodknockRhett10 ай бұрын
Heavy weight oil will raise the pressure but also changes the vecosity of it. Lucas doesn't doesn't do that. Figuring a quart of Lucas costs nearly the same as a quart of oil, it's pretty good stuff.
