Yes, I think The Dusky Woman is a magic user, but not a woodswitch, they follow the Old Goods. I think she is a Maegi of the east. Euron is collecting magic users. I think she has some sort of charm, spell or psionic power to influence Victarion. He thinks that he should refuse her, but he doesn't. He thinks he is going to kill her as soon as they get out to sea. He doesn't. Instead he starts sleeping with her. It could be basic psychological manipulation, self-deception and even some genuin but twisted affection. Then George like to sprinkle a little of magic on top. Moqorro is driving out her influence with fire. Victarion is just about to give the order to kill him, when the pain in his hand drives out the power of The Dusky Woman, and suddenly he is under Moqorros spell instead. She sees him for what he is, but she is also recognising that he is so much stronger. He is the new master.

I think that Euron having a finger in nearly every form of magic including skin changing and dragon riding could make a lot of sense. It may sound redundant or overpowered, but he is a character who parallels the Others and Azor Ahai. Both of whom are implied to have access to such forms of magic.

immediately after victarion remembers selling the slaves, he calls his sea journey a “middle passage”. that is a direct reference to the “middle passage” between africa and the americas of the historic slave trade. the beginning is their capture and overland transport in africa, the middle passage is the journey overseas, and the end is the journey from the american ports to the interior plantations. it’s interesting though that victarion is selling his slaves BEFORE what he refers to as his own middle passage. perhaps it’s a subtle reference to his bondage under euron. or that he’s leaving the ownership of euron and approaching some kind of service to daenerys.

Vic’s lobstered hand is the squishers and the ocean catching the meteor (the sword) and then it is corrupted. The black stone in his stomach mentioned at the beginning of the chapter is a symbol of the corruption inside him now from the sword (the meteor). I think this means it is very possible that the source of corruption in the heart of winter will be a huge black stone. It seems like everywhere there is corruption in the story, black stone is somewhere close either in a physical or symbolic sense.

As someone who has been listening since your earliest podcasts, I’m still a regular and avid listener. I have been enjoying your Disaster Hunters and Iron Born podcasts. And of course the chapter readings. I just wanted to share that I’m still under the impression that there are no real gods in this world. I think that the magic is all from the same elemental source, but accessed through a variety of ways. Which I believe is something you have often talked about. I agree with the many others who think that Euron is most likely messing with the magic in a manner that with come back to bite him. But I’m still unconvinced that there is an actual Drowned God. I’m really enjoying your exploration of Lovecraft and related ideas with Tim. But I guess for the time being I still feel that these ideas are more of a nod to Lovecraft and other stories and authors who Martin loves. Perhaps Winds will provide us more evidence, one way or the other. And btw, I believe Maester Kerwin was serving in the Sheild Islands prior to them being taken by the Iron Born. So I don’t think the Citadel assigned him to the Iron Born. I think he was somewhat of a captive of theirs, poor guy.

Victarion seems very straightforward in everything he does. I kinda find it endearing even though he's seriously evil.

I noticed that Aegon the Conqueror spent a fortnight in Sisterton, and when the Ironborn were on their knees, various people were suggesting who should be overlords over them. He listened patiently to all of them, but in the end decided to let them elect one of their own to be their new leader. Why didn't he tame them with a Tully overlord, or crush them forever? They're never going to not be a threat, so why'd he let them off the hook? Seems against his character...

Marwyn, who we know has a connection to Asshai-by-the-Shadow is on his way to Dany, in close proximity to rare books from Sam to Captain Mo, one of which is the dragon book by Barth. But also, the cinnamon wind, someone on it, or Marwyn himself might be the Perfumed Seneschal

Euron is definitely counting on Victarion trying to steal Dany for himself. Either way, they'll come to Westeros at some point. The only thing better than stealing your brother's wife, is stealing your brother's second wife, apparently.

I really don't get this, "Victarion is stupid" idea that gets floated around. The Burning of The Lannister Fleet and Siezing of The Shield Isles are some of the most tactically important victories the Ironborn have ever scored and the tactics that achieved them Victarion's brain children. Euron has been stealing Vic's glory remember. Even here in this chapter we see Victarion demonstrate frankly extraordinary competence. Sailing in unfamiliar waters as a war is brewing, his infected wound and Euron sending storms he's kinda of getting shoved face first up the ass end of Murphy's law. Even so Victarion establishes a plan of action that addresses The Iron Fleet's need for supply, maintenance, communication and coordination while finding a happy middle ground between maintenaning said fleet's numbers and speed! Whatever that is it's a damn sight from stupid.

The reason why Ghost is comfortable with Mel, whilst the Dusky Woman and the monkeys don't like MoQuarro, might simply be because Mel's glamour works on Ghost the same way it works on everybody else. Moquorro doesn't seem to be using any kind of glamour.

About Melisandre and Ghost, I think that she have some spell to bewich him, with her singing maybe... Jon is sensible to singers, maybe his wolf is too

I'm interested to hear your thoughts: I don't think the tale of Azora Ahai is a tale, but a prophecy that been bent over time, in which to be better believed. So the aspects it depicts of three trails to create lightbringer is yet to come. I think Euron is going to be the one who undergoes these trials. First with the sacrifices in the straight, then a sacrifice of Moqorro (the lion) -- because a powerful man is better than 100 weak men, and then lastly the women he loves (nisa nisa), Dany. I know this is a stretch, but I feel that there is logic to this, and would like your thoughts.

I think Victarion is another character who gets a bum wrap as being a dummy. I know GRRM said he's dumb as a stump, but if you really examine his inner monologue it's apparent that he actually doesn't miss much. He immediately realized what Euron was up to when he gave the shield islands to the subordinates of his rivals. And he even figured the dusky woman was a trap when Euron first offered her to him. He only accepted her because Euron implied he'd hurt her if Vic refused her. He's not smart enough to keep up with Euron but not many people are. Euron's like a cross between Baelish and Blood Raven. I think Vic's biggest disadvantage is a deficit of information and being cumbered by certain principles. Euron runs circles around Vic cause he's willing to do things most men wouldn't. Namely kinslaying and traffic in dark magics, among other things. But that doesn't make Vic dumb.

I'm pretty sure Moqorro's not working for Euron but I doubt he'll succeed in unbinding Dragonbinder from Euron. He may eventually be able to help Daenerys use the horn to bind Drogon to her but I suspect by then Euron will have already stolen one of her other dragons. Although the idea of Daenerys using blood magic to subjugate one of her own "children" to her will feels like a violation of her principles.
