My Top 5 list is over 2 years old. Yet i still stand that the SMK and Flack Panzer 1 are OP Tanks :D The T-29 and Tiger 2 are still strong, but new tanks at their BR have changed the playing field at RB 6.7 . M-18 is a wild card. I'm glad you enjoyed trying out the vehicles on the list.

These vehicles aren't as OP in realistic, mostly because players are (generally) better, and can sneak around much easier. Arcade is fine to play, especially for learning, but Gaijin doesn't put as much effort into keeping balance in it compared to realistic mode, which most people play. Source: I have no life, and put 1300 hours into this game

I would recommend you to try Stürmpanzer II.

As for the ammo, you have to look at three aspects of a round: 1. Penetration - pretty obvious, but it's not most important here - APCR often have the highest pen but rarerly is the best round. Usually you use it as a last resort, when you can't pen something any other way. 2. Post penetration effects - APCR only does damage in a straight line, AP and APBC especially do much more damage even if they don't penetrate as much. You have to see how each round behaves on the destruction camera - you'd best take few rounds of each type of ammo and try them in the sandbox, see how each of them damages a tank. Look for tnt equivalent, if there is any, the bigger value the greater the damage post penetration. 3. How it behaves against sloped armor

I LOVE your War Thunder videos dude, it is SO refreshing to see how new players enjoy the game. I have been playing it so long that sometimes I forget how enjoyable it can be. Great video, doesn't matter how you play, as long as you enjoy it.

I hope I can clarify some points here: Get a beer because this might take a while... First, IronArmenians Video was done at the end of 2016, since then lots of changes have happend: Game mechanics changed, tanks got nerfed and buffed, lots of counters to those former OP vehicles found their way into War Thunder etc etc 3 specific examples: 1) Tiger II in gerneral - previously you could empty the turret ammo racks and the tank could take quite a beating from the front, including the turret front NOW: there is always ammo in the back of the turret and the fuel tanks at the bottom of the vehicle explode often if the ammo would not explode (including the premium version, the DIESEL Sla 16). The lack of mobility within the german tech tree lets the tank have quite an interesting time in RB, where it is nations vs nations... 2) T29 (premium tank) This american premium tank, when it was freshly introduced, sold like hot cake because now the americans had a strong heavy tank counter for the King Tiger its turret front prevented the 88s APCBC from doing any meaningfull damage, the MG port was as "buggy" as the lower glacies, where there was behind the driver an invisible wall that ate all the shrapnell from a sucessfull penetration AND on top of this the first layer of ammo at the bottom of the tank was "hard coded" by Gaijin to NOT explode Meanwhile the Tiger II including the premium was nerfed with now exploding bootom fuel tanks and so the T29 oneshotted the Tiger II now left right and center which previously could take even a soviet 122 mm APHEBC shell to the face without dying 3) IS-6 - probably my favourite example )))) (premium - what a surprise...) When it was first introduced, it could oneshot the T29 through the lower glacis because its 122 mm APHEBC round could oneshot the T29 through the lower glacis (remember, long 88 APCBCs shrapnels were absorbed by invisible wall behind driver and first ammo rack line would not explode ever...) then its armour and speed aswell as its reload was just and still is better Compared to the IS3 and IS4 (tech tree tanks at higher BR) Its armour was the most obvious betrayal to thinking players that I have see so far in War Thunder - front plate good enough to not be penned by german 128 mm and even L7 APDS - Turret front *taking a deep breath* - behind front plate there was a nearly invisible second plate of armour - official, combined thickness 200 mm of RHA - BUT: The actuall armour quality values were different and the REAL armour thickness was just around 300 mm with just some pixel WEAKSPOTS of roughly 150 mm on the gunners sights speaking of vision... - CUPOLAS - the optics behind the armour of the cupolas were and still are bugged that they absorbed the stronges APCBC rounds from penning. ON TOP OF THAT, just like with the T29, the ammo when getting hit, would mostly not explode and HESH was also in quite a different state, often just not working because the angle of the front plate was 65° but the stat card only told the pen values to 60° ... what a coincidence ^^ There are many more examples like this in War Thunder but what it boils down to is Gaijin introducing one vehicle, that is, lets be politically correct here, a bit over the average performance, driving players of other nations mad and then the next patch, sell the sekrit counter as premium and profit from the previously created hate. Those and more are the Gaijin shenanigans that I came across playing War Thunder for nearly 6 years. We have the same with planes and also ships, hell even helicopters. Don´t get me wrong, I absolutly LOVE this game but things like this ruin the game experience at certain BRs for certain nations for weeks or entire patches and then what is left is a short profit for Gaijin and a tattered Reddit/ War Thunder Live and my comment section - but hey, it is balanced If you want to try out the freshest "P2W" tank you might just wait for the new patch ;) Let me know if this Trump Wall of text has helped you :)

Hellcat is used in Realistic Battles because of its mobility and speed. It gets to nasty places well before the enemy does and can shoot and get back to cover pretty quickly. In Arcade its borderline useless because everyone can see where you are

the arcade meta is heavy dominant , play realistic and you'll see that the OPnes of a vehicle is relative ; btw the video made by haigs is fairly old . if you want real OP vehicles play the kv1b at top tier in realistic and enjoy , or go whit a jumbo .

It's really nice to see you come in to War Thunder! Don't worry about anyone hating on you, everyone has a learning curve. I haven't played Arcade in a long while, but I agree that it's an excellent place to start and get your feet wet. Re: the Tiger II; It USED to be The King of it's tier... but then Cold War / modern combat vehicles were added and it's just food now in most cases. I'd love to see a "Lucky grinds through War Thunder" kind of series, not just you playing gifted and premium vehicles. One thing though - Having a good tank is good, having a good LINEUP is best!

Tiger II used to be very good, but now it has pretty big weakness. If anything penetrates your turret, it blows into pieces as the ammo is stored there.

You were facing lower battle rating tanks in the T29. Is it because you're new, or because you're using a gaijin rep account i don't know. If i use a 6.7 tank i face 7.3-7.7 enemies...you faced 5.7-6.3 ones.

Those T29 games... where can I get enemies like that? Pretty much every vehicle you saw was at least a whole BR under you, with several of them being over 3 BR under... like... why. And the ones that weren't just pull out infront of you in the open and just sit there.

As a rule when you're choosing shells you need to focus on two things; penetration, and post penetration damage effects. A solid shot AP round will have good penetration, but not good post penetration effects, because it will not create much spalling and fragmentation. On the contrary an APHE or APCBC round will have lower penetrations but excellent post pen effects, due to the explosive filler in the shell. I recommend using these shells whenever possible, because of their ability to one shot kill enemies reliably. That goes for nearly any BR.

I notice that you attacked enemies mostly from the flanks or rear. The SMK isn't OP, but using good tactics and brains is DEF overpowered in WT. It's why many of us play.

If you see ''C'' in the name of a ammunition it means that that shell is better performance against angling armor, C stands for capped. So anything with ''C'' in it means the ammuntion is capped! APHE and AP shell is non-capped so while they might have higher pens than capped shells but they performance worse against angling armor and tend to lose pen the further they travel! Also AP type whether the regular AP, APC, APCBC these ammuntions do less damage than APHE, APCBC, APHEBC or anything that starts with ''APHE'' because they are solid shot with no explosive! Because of this the tip of the AP round is stronger than APHE type and tend to have higher pen but also not always one shot people. While APHE type, if you shoot turret of a tank then there is very high chance that everyone even those not in the turret will die because the ammunition will explode and sending shrapnel everywhere inside the vehicle! While AP shell the shrapnel will only kill those who are in its way. HEAT type = never lose pen, bounces less than kinetic rounds, does even worse damage than AP, can not shoot through objects like destructable houses, trees or fences, can hullbreak lightly armored vehicle. HE type = good against lightly armored vehicle becuase it won't over pen, can hull break them too!, if you shoot at the turret the shrapnel will pen the roof armor of the hull, for example your HE does 30mm pen and your enemy has roof armor less than 30mm pen thick that means you can pen the roof part and might also damage modules.

My advice to get better at RB/SB (been playing the game since it came out) Play RB and Sim, get used to the shell drop on various tanks, eventually you'll be able to estimate ranges just fine. Arcade is a whole different beast solely based on positioning in my experience.

Personely to me the M4A3E2 (AKA Jumbo) is one of the most OP tanks in the game.

Lucky, despite not actually making it onto the battlefield the T29 was supposed to counter tanks such as Tiger 1 and Panthers so it's no surprise the 90mm(which is the same as the Pershing's gun) could pen those easily.

There is a lot of luck involved in arcade, but that doesn't mean you should play realistic until you correctly understand the mechanics. You should start by learning what are the different types of rounds. Moving your mouse over them should give you a bunch of info about them, but to know more watch a KZfaq video.

If you're ready to get frustrated, then I recommend you to play German 5.7 lineup in realistic. 80% of the times you'll get uptiered to 6.7 where you'll face IS-2s, T 34 85s, T29s, T30s, American T34, and whole lot more tanks that easily pen your hull no matter how you angle it. The best way to kill tanks like the T29s, American T34s and T30s is to get the APCR shell and load 10 of them in your tank, because if you're in a Tiger 1 or Panther D/A/G/F you would absolutely need it if you want to safely kill the gunner of those tanks. Their armor for the turret is powerful, but APCR can still penetrate it depending on the angle of the enemy tank and the distance of you and the enemy. Or you can just find a way to flank them and they'll be easily toasted.

SMK isn't so much considered OP because it can kill easy, there's quite a few tanks that can one-shot at the tier you were playing at. SMK though is a huuuuuge thicc boi, can bounce a lot of hits, and with 7 (!) crew members it can take a few good hits to get all of them for the kill Important to test out non-prems at the same BR, I think you'll find at 6.7-7 anything with a big caliber gun is gonna get a lot of one-shot kills

Lucky as for your ammo choices. APHEBC is an AP round that explodes after penetration killing the enemy crew. APCBC is a solid AP round that relies on the shrapnel created by the round after penetrations. The APCR is like the APCBC just that it does less shrapnel as the penetrating round is smaller. The video you mentioned is quite old. Things have changed quite a lot since then, and most of those tanks are not as good as they used to be... Exept for T29. That shit is just broken... And it got fucking buffed recently xD

I think you should watch a shell guide, because its not about the damage off the shell like in World of Tanks. Its about the post penetration effect of a shell. And also the amount of Armor it can penetrate. Just a tip

You should play the M8 GMC, I can easily get 12 kills in that thing, is so easy to play

The T29... It has an exact equivalent for free in the tech tree, called the T34, but the T34 has a bigger gun.

I believe most of pay to win policy comes when the game puts the premium players in to the lower Battle Rating to what they have in their vehicle slots meaning if they have tanks with rating 4.0 or 4.3 the game puts them in Battle Rating 3,7 so they can easily destroy free account players, a free account player never gets to play in a game with lower Battle Rating of his tanks.

It all depends on the meta of the game mode. Since you're easily spotted in Arcade, lightly armored tanks are way harder to do well in than in Realistic. In Arcade, armor wins, in Realistic, armor matters way less. In Realistic, the M18 is amazing, in Arcade it's crap. And you got full downtiers in the T29 twice, it's not overpowered if you get uptiered (like with the Tiger 2) every now and then.

The M18 is a Glass Cannon, but a very good one. Yes, you have to be good with it, but if you are, it's pretty badass at it's tier.
