Wife was going through some old handguns of her dad’s and sent me a few pics. One of them was the exact gun you’re holding there. Jhv41. This thing feels so comfortable to hold. Gonna have to go and shoot it :)

hi thomas, i am the son (61 years old) of a french navy officer. Recently i discovered that the "pistolet d'ordonnance" of my long-deceased father was a Frommer Kal 7.35 with the additional safety. Thanks for all the intersting infos. But note that my father, after the liberation of Strasbourg in novembre 1944, was sent in March-April 45 to the famous battle of the Poche de Royans. 2 months later he asked to be sent to the far East to take back Indochina from the Japanese army still at war. When was he given this gun? Very difficult to know but one thing is sure, this gun was given to him by the French army as a young lieutenant. So it means that some Luftwaffe stocks were picked up by the French. Any knowledge of that. I'd love to know more. And thank you again for the precious history. Best and belated wishes for this new year. From Lyon, France with much appreciation.

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry Wasting some time this afternoon I walked into a gun/hardware store I don't usually frequent,as I am out of town for work. This gun caught my eye next to some polymer framed pistols(yuck). Employee Pulled it out, I inspected it, making mental notes. I was not familiar with it at all. Learning today though ha! Annnnd here I am. Going to have to jump on it. Intrigued by the history.

Oh it’s one of my favorite 32s for sure! Not a very commonly known or commonly found piece, The ones that were made in 380 are also pretty awesome but the ones made for Germany are actually pretty uncommon so very nice find!

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponryThis is a German one! Even more intriguing for me! Someone changed the grips out at some point. Already looked up if I could source some. Ha! What is your video about you're putting out tmrw?

I have one, slide : P. Mod. 37, Kal. 7,65. Budapest then FFG shield. Ser# 11---. So is it an Hungarian in 32acp or as German pistol?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry Жыл бұрын
@John Christensen P. Mod. Should indicate that it was at least intended for the German contract, does it have JHV printed anywhere on it above either 41 or 43? And does it have a safety switch?

Whats the go to source for identifying different variations within the Luftwaffe contracts?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry2 жыл бұрын
Honestly combing through gun forums will usually get you the best results, but don’t just take anyone’s word for what they say. Check for links to credible sources within the forum. Militaryfactory.com and Legacy Collectables have decent articles on them, but I don’t recall off the top of my head where I found the chart that logged each variety of the legend (which is the easiest way to determine which sub-variety it is)

@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry okay thanks brother will look into it! Picking up a 1943 contract that was refinished next month and on layaway i do have a pristine example of the 1941 contract, i just pulled up the photo from my phone and it does say "pistole m.37 Kal" so thats good news. I never intend on selling it but its nice to have supporting documentation to sell it at more of a premium when I'm dead.
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry2 жыл бұрын
Indeed it is! If I stumble across the page that had the charts I’ll try and remember to send it your way

Were the Fallschrimjaeger apart of the luftwaffe?
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry3 жыл бұрын
Technically yes, the paratrooper branch. Can’t say for sure if they would’ve been issued this pistol or a Walther PP/PPK, maybe even a P38. Likely some of each
@MrJerry1603 жыл бұрын
@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry id assume the luftwaffe being top tier special forces probably would would choose a 9mm handgun over a .32acp
@GreatNorthwestWeaponry3 жыл бұрын
In modern times I’d certainly agree, but for whatever reason the Wehrmacht really had a thing for their .32s, a lot of top units were issued the PPK if for no other reason than the clout
@tb77712 жыл бұрын
Good question. The answer is mostly yes. The Heer had a battalion of FJ in 1938 under Major Heidrich. It was transfered to the Luftwaffe in Jan. 1939. The SS had a battalion of FJ. The 500/600 from Oct. 1943 til the end of the war.
@tb77712 жыл бұрын
@@GreatNorthwestWeaponry FJ were mostly issued the Luger and P38. Officers could purchase what they wanted.
