Luna Lovegood Wand | Harry Potter DIY

If you can't buy it, you should make it! This week it's time to get a little whimsical, we're making Luna Lovegood's second wand, we hope that everyone will enjoy this little tutorial!

Things you'll need:
Super glue
Metal rod (I use a barbecue skewer)
Pliers
Sculpting tools
Polymer clay (preferably black/brown)
Acrylic paint (used black, brown, white, orange and some red)
Brush
You'll need a oven to bake the clay. Had it in the oven at 110°C for 30 min each time, but make sure to bake the clay according to instruction on the package.

I have no experience or hability working with my hands, but I just finished my own customised wand. It's not that good, maybe to the eyes of more experienced artists it fucking sucks, but I'm pretty satisfied with the results. So, if I was able to do it, then I think that everybody can... just give it a try.

I had a go at making Luna's second wand too - I kinda wish I used brown Polymer Clay like you did, it took me ages to paint a wood effect onto epoxy putty! Yours turned out so so good! :)

Wow... I would never be able to do this. Not only because I'm not talented enough or I'm too impatient, but I can't handle the sound of sandpaper for more than like 30 seconds. This wand is absolutely gorgeous and is honestly more accurate to the movie version than the Noble Collection version.

hahaha well I can relate to the impatient part! I am sure you would do better than you give yourself credit for, and you don't have to use sandpaper, just add an extra layer of paint to create or remove texture :) (or blast the Harry Potter soundtrack really high on some speakers to block out the sound) And that is so sweet of you to say, I am very grateful to receive so many positive comments on what we do! :)

You’re so good at sculpting! You should make Luna’s first wand, it’s my favorite wand ever. Sadly you can only buy the wand in a set that costs ALOT of money. But anyways keep it up you’re amazing!

I do this too. I didn't like the look of using a glue gun. But I use a wooden dowel and polymer clay. Great tutorial!

I will write it down on my request list! :) I believe you actually can get it in the Order of The Phoenix set or something like that, but it is pretty pricey as you are buying multiple wands at the same time. It is a very cool wand :)

In my experience a white base coat has helped achieve a lighter wood look.

Hi! I was wondering if you encountered stickiness of the acrylic paint surface after painting? With my wands, I find they are unpleasant to touch and wondering if I am missing some matte varnish etc

What brand of clay do you use? I have tried fimo and premo polymer clay and they are both so hard and not very mouldable. love your videos, Thanks

Thank you for liking our videos, that is so nice of you! I have struggled a lot with fimo in the past, but that is the brand I am currently using. some tips on how to get the right clay: First you want to check the manufacture date on the package before you buy them, some shops have really old hard packs that are almost useless before you even get the chance to open them. Second, I press the packs between my fingers ever so gently, just to check they are soft, If I can't squeeze it with a light touch it is probably not new and is gone hard. Third, you can restore hard clay in a couple of ways (Since polymer clay isn't a air-dry clay it will never harden completely without heat added, so you can save it with some work) I occasionally use vaseline or any other petroleum jelly, add a little bit on my fingers and take little pieces and work the two together, this can result in a sticky mess if you use too much. Additionally heating up the clay with your hands or putting it somewhere warm (not too warm, or else it will bake) will loosen up the oils and get it more pliable. Kneading it can also help, I use a pasta machine to save my fingers :)

Luna has two versions in the films, so it might be that you have seen pictures of her first wand? This is her second :)
