I have only been into "cars" for about 2 years, and I am amazed by the skill it takes to build an engine, I know its been done a lot with several engines, but to me, just from installing a few bushings, coilovers, exhaust and some other random stuff that I thought was difficult I feel doesn't even compare to the difficulty of building a reliable engine. Boost is a whole different story.

Wait! you can't just take off the gears to the Vanos, you need to get a elemination plate to hold the camshaft in place! otherwise it will just wander between the max and min limit of Vanos travel, and also you need to set the timing with the chain pre tensioned to I think 3 nm. sorry for my poor english but i'm from sweden, but i have spend a lot of time working on bmw engines. Did you do the same thing with your Vanos on the last engine? cause a free travelling intake cam can propebly cause your detonation problem!

I love your channel so much, you are really helpful with everything., but what I don't understand is all that help you've done for Adam. I never see him in your videos helping you. It's common courtesy in the racing scene. You help him, he helps you. But he doesn't. I do it every weekend with friends and my cousin racing. If their motors blow, we are there until the motor is built, then they are there to help me. It's how it goes..

As a newbie, I've got two questions: First of all, while you're installing head studs, you torque them down just by hand, then put washers and nuts lastly. So that means that if you tightens those nuts (right with specs) it torques down those studs all the way down? I don't know if it's clear what I'm trying to tell. And second: How do you know, that camshafts are positioned correctly? You showed us those two dots facing up, but I'm not sure it's up related to the lifter trays or just straight up related to the floor. And I'm sorry for not the best language :) Keep doing what you're doing, I love watching this kind of videos!

My own experience with engine building would have lead me to give the block-side threads on the studs a light coat of the ARP grease, but the difference in applied torque is likely too small to be of consequence, especially with those fire-rings, which are friggin trick as hell. All in all, good work. Maybe try getting a nap here or there during the build? Cup of tea? A coke?
@AkaimMedia
@AkaimMedia 6 жыл бұрын
You didnt weld oilpump nut? Or did you even put thread locker on it? Ive heard, that they get loose really easily. And why you didnt put head studs before putting head on it? But great work anyway! Im just asking my stupid questions ;D

Big boost watch my vr6 turbo headgasket rebuild video i show you a awesome technique to setting the head on the block by cutting the head off the oem head bolts on 3 of them them install all your other bolt/studs and remove the old as you go.. makes putting the head on so much easier and guarantees it goes on perfectly the first time..

Just curious: do those "cut rings" that you're using on the head gasket have an impact on how many times you can re-surface the head? It seems like it would; then again, they may only have a minimal impact on the head material itself. It almost seems like an alternative to o-ringing/copper wiring your block. I wonder if they lower your compression too? Oh, and I keep saying it, but you keep not responding: run an ethanol mix (E25-E30) or/and (I'd definitely do BOTH - I do on my own car) spray water-methanol! You will have a HUGE safety layer via temp reduction and octane boost, and prevent the same thing happening again, plus hundreds of degrees cooler cylinders will make your arguably tight ring-endgap choices much less likely to be an issue. You can safely run more timing for more power reliably and make your turbo last longer by not having to wind it up as much! Win, win, win!!!
