I may be mistaken but it looks like you locked one cam gear the opposite way even though you said "look I got it right the first time!" From what I can see you locked the gears differently on the secondary cam chain even though the gears spin the same way. It may have been intentional but it looks like the exhaust cam gear can still slip. Just looking out.

Brendan Phipps Check the exhaust cam gear. I'm pretty sure bolt pressure is the only thing keeping it from slipping.
@ALBERTOBIGBOOST
@ALBERTOBIGBOOST 6 жыл бұрын
as I explained in the video, the chain rotates the cam gear, the bolts transfer the rotation to the cam, spinning right it puts the load towards the left side. then the other cam gear is moved to the right by the bolts so it has to go all the way to the right side so it doesnt move with the rotarion, then the intake gear moved by the chain has to go in holding the cam to the left side so it doesnt move. everything was done right. in the video. no mistakes

Okay Alberto, I’m refreshing a jz right now and have arp head studs ready to go in but I can’t figure out which way to install them. I’ve heard that you put them in the block hand tight and then torque them down in the proper order, and that you hand tighten them in, put everything on, and then put the head on and torque the nuts down. I’m confused and I figured you and/or this video could help me

An easy trick to keep a gasket from falling off when installing something like the timing cover, is to simply put a bolt in one of the cover holes. It acts like the alignment dowel and keeps it in place until it's all lined up and on the motor. Beautifully clean motor. Just the way it should be when doing assembly.

I see on the piston rings you went 2 steps on first one and 3 steps on second one….if I’m not immediately going turbo and just want to be NA for awhile would it be acceptable for me to only do 1 step on the first and 2 steps on the second? And tune accordingly

Important question, are the little dowel pins that go between the block and head important?? As in are they just guides or do they carry pressure that the head gasket wont hold? My reconditioner left them in a bag for me and i forgot about them

Alberto I know this is an older video, hope you see this... Ill be doing Vanos delete as well, but Im not sure about the Vanos oil line. Is it ok to leave it in place, or do I have to plug it like you did? Will it cause a drop in oil pressure if I leave it as is, with just removing the piston from the Vanos housing?

For PC watercooling applications, you generally avoid mixing up copper and aluminimum, because this tends to lead to corrosion. Wouldn't the copper gasket thing do the same to the engineblock?
@Ieatpeople2

The whole bottom end is built with a stock crank forged rods and forged pistons, the valve train is all stock with stock cams. My question is how much boost is the stock crank and stock head going to be able to handle reliably especially with running big boost?
@Ieatpeople2
@Ieatpeople2 6 жыл бұрын
there are folks making 800-900hp with stock crank (internet claims stock m52 crank is forged). the head being "stock" doesnt really matter, cams/springs/retainers dont affect the stability of the head casting and there are no "aftermarket" heads (like for a LS or Hemi) just ported stock ones. as for the valve train being stock, the limiting factor for hp would be rpm or very high boost causing valve float, but should still be capable of 7500+rpm

I'm 2.5 years into designing, machining, building and working out the bugs on my custom cylinder head for an M52 in my 99' 328iS. It uses rotating tubes to let the air in and out of the engine. I wish I had seen his series of videos before I did my project. I once had to to take my front cover off while the head was on the car and the whole engine was in the car... it took a very long time for a whole bunch of reasons. Nice job on the videos!
