Apple ssamjang, a Korean dipping sauce (Sagwa-ssamjang: 사과쌈장)

This recipe is a variation on dipping sauce (ssamjang: 쌈장), using a small apple instead of sugar. I eat it in the traditional Korean ssam style, in wraps of fresh lettuce and greens with multigrain rice. This way, it's a meal in itself. For Korean barbecue, I use regular ssamjang:

+Nicole Rok Those pastes she used does not contain any animal products. She used chili paste and fermented soy paste. Also fish sauce is not a typical Korean item. That is Vietnamese.

gochujang 고추장 is always vegan, doenjang 된장 is _usually_ vegan! (just double check for anchovies in the ingredients!)

i love your videos.. learned making kimchi just by watching your tutorials...one suggestion though, try removing just the core of the apple before peeling. less waste that way..☺

I have just tried this sagwa-ssamjang this evening !! and my mom loved it!!! I wanted to use healthy food for her , and so is the fermented soybean paste !!! Had to watch because I’ve enjoyed all your videos, but somehow missed this one. I like making ssamjang for Korean BBQ, but we also like adding a thinly sliced apple piece into every little lettuce bundle!!! I don’t know where I got the idea but this seems like a good way to combine the 2 tastes we’ve learned to enjoy! My mouth is watering!
