I love Jajangmyeon, and Koreans say Jajngmyeon is one of food you don't eat for your first date, it splash everywhere makes your date get bad impression of you, but I didn't care. I had it on my first date and I am married the one.:-)

When I live in Korea in the 90s I would order this from restaurant and a man on bike would bring it to my door. One of my favorite Korean dishes. I haven’t had it in over 20 years. Now I can make it myself. 😃 Thank you so much!

Danie Lou De Raya correct! I watched this a couple of months ago and rewatching again. Cause I wanna try this fresh instead of always just eating the instant version. Pork belly can be bought at good price either Costco or a Vietnamese grocery store. Actually, our small city has Vietnamese, Korean, and Chinese grocery stores... they all have the jjajangmyun paste in a jar on the shelves, and noodles are usually in the refrigerator.

It's worth it to make ja jang myun at home instead of going out to a restaurant because in many places they skim on the vegetable and use inferior cuts of pork which doesn't have as much fat. At home, you can make ja jang muyn with chunky pieces of pork belly and vegetable, which makes a very hearty and substantial dish.

I've never ordered this at the Korean restaurants but it always looked so good to me, so I decided to pick up a jar of black bean sauce from the Korean section of my local Chinese market. Daikon is such a nice contrast to the thickened sauce and even though I don't usually like potatoes, I enjoyed eating potatoes in this dish! Thank you for sharing another delicious recipe!

It's been too long since I've had this dish so I made it tonight. I made some substitutions to use what I had in the house but I'm very happy with the outcome. I used sweet potato, omitted the daikon radish (I don't use it enough to justify buying a large piece), a whole zucchini, and I boned/skinned some chicken thighs instead of the pork. I also used jarred black bean sauce but supplemented it with some soy paste. It's not what I had in Korea- and I didn't expect it to taste the same-, but it still turned out very tasty. I love your site and your books. Maybe one day when I am visiting Flushing, we'll run into each other.

I have been a fan of Korean culture for almost 2 years and ever sense been trying little bit of everything, and of course loving it in the end. One thing I have been waning to try is black bean noodles(seen to much of it in Kdramas lol). So i have gone to grocery store and bought black bean paste almost year ago, of course i opened it it tried it the way it was( it was kind of gross lol). So then I kind of got discouraged about it and put it a side. Until i came across this recipe. It looked very easy, ingredients wasn't that hard to find. In the end i cooked it few days ago. And i am amazed how great this dish is. Her recipe is amazing. Extra veggies and meat gives it even more flavors. It took no time to make it. Love it! Thank you.

I can't wait to make your Jjajangmyeon, ox-tail soup, octopus, miyeok salad and soup, and many more! After watching your channel for the last month I'm so excited to finally start making the recipes myself. I love food too, and I could talk about it and watch your recipes for hours (which I have). If you can't find one with the link Maangchi sent you, you can get the paste on amazon usually. The pork belly/ shoulder can be found at spanish stores if you have one of those around. The daikon has been popping up in american stores recently, or ask a worker in the produce section. A lot of the times if you ask, they will order it for you :)!
